 		[TROUT] Night Skies
Is "Super 8" the film Spielberg almost made before E.T.?
Okay, my first post, but I've been lurking on this site for years - avidly during Cloverfield. As much as some of you kids think you were too cool for that game, whatever. It's what got me into the whole ARG thing.

However I never got into a game early enough or made any discoveries of my own that compelled me to register and actually, you know, post. You guys are way better at the puzzles than me.

Note: Mods, if I'm doing this wrong, please, by all means, hack, slash, lock, destroy, PM, etc. Also, slap me with whatever type fish you like. I realize you guys run a tight ship around here. My apologies for any trespasses of the norms on this board.

However, I picked up on something I feel is worth pointing out - not necessarily to do with the game, but what this film is potentially about.

For the record, I did a search, and found a brief mention of this here:

However I think this is deserving of its own thread. Again, mods, do with me and this post as you will.

Stephen Spielberg wanted to make a film before E.T. titled "Night Skies". Rather than being a feel-good, aren't-aliens-cute type movie, though, it was a horror-survival film.

To summarize the Wikipedia page, Night Skies was to be about a band of aliens that abducted farm animals to measure their sentience, but then come for the family living on the land. It's described as "Straw Dogs with aliens". Not sure if that means the aliens rape the farmer's wife in a well-known and controversial scene, or - more likely - if the farmer has to defend his home and family from a lynch mob of aliens trying to break in.

Spielberg said he would produce the film but look for a director.

Now, many years later, Spielberg is producing an alien film with a different director - one where the aliens might not be so nice.

Maybe Spielberg is making "Night Skies" after all?

night skies was brought up a couple times some feel its not super 8 some as well as i believe its possible at least for inspiration but this was discussed Smile

 		Perhaps if someone were to relabel the original post so that SKIES is spelled properly .....it would come up in a search. Just a thought! Wink
