Mysterious package time!

Edit: There's an audio recording and a transcript (in German) of the tape at this blog post.

Got a mysterious package in the mail today!

From Germany, nothing but an unmarked cassette tape. Now here's the problem: I tried playing it in my old boom box, which promptly went kaput. Tried playing it in the kids' Hello Kitty Tape Player, which wouldn't even open. All I have to play tapes in, as you'll see, is a toddler's Fisher Price Tape Player. There's no audio out so I can't export the stereo to my computer, and it's tinnier than Jack Haley. I'll try to find something better to grab the audio.

What I hear: Someone sitting down to play a piano concerto sonata. The phone rings. The pianist gets annoyed and asks someone else to answer it. The other person does, and says "What's up?" then something else which I couldn't make out. Concerto Sonata resumes. After it ends, a male voice speaks in German. About all I could make out was "Ich bin," which is, amazingly, about the extent of my German. Razz A baby is heard in the background. And... scene.

I'll at least post the tinny version tonight, or die trying.

Here's the ARGN article about 66letters.net.

I saw the ARGN post and thought this one looked really cool, but the registration was in german only. I take it you registered addlepated? I'm going to go ahead and register using google translate. Here's a link for anyone else who wants to as well

Lastly, was the music always on the main page? I don't remember it being there when i visited before, but I probably just had my pc on mute.

You know, if I received a cassette tape in the mail I wouldn't know what to do with it. I haven't had a player for them in years either. Razz

Nope, I didn't register. Smile

Even more mysterious >.>

Is this what's on your tape? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G_f4zSMu16A

Also found this blog looks like they've been working on it for a few days.

Oh, thank goodness. Yes, I think that's exactly the same as my tape, minus the blip in the middle which (I think) was something that the person who put it up on YouTube did by accident.

So - German speakers? What's it say?

This looks like the German equivalent of unforums, with a 20 page thread on this ARG already.

Looks like all the clues are in German, which means I'm either going to wait until they get stuff translated to English or not play Sad

There's also some information, including a transcription of the tape, on this blog - http://dieterschrade.blogspot.com/

You can always use http://translate.google.com to take care of your translation problems. Smile

Ah yes, the one in my post above...Smile

I'm confused about the references to more clues though, which is why i'm taking a step back from this. Apparently there is a clue or two on the site itself.

And google translate just doesn't cut it, especially for .pdf's http://www.folge-dem-kaninchen.de/raffiniert/1-handschriften.pdf

Doh! Sorry about that. I have the worst time seeing links on this forum. And you're right about Translate's limitations.

It's my hope that, if they're trying to bring in an English-speaking audience by sending us trailhead packages, they'll add English components. We had a similar situation in the Therapy ARG last year - some stuff took place here and some on the German forum.

Well like I said, it looks awesome. And on the ARGNet post they said "In the future, the Folge dem Kaninchen website will open up for a more nternational audience, but for now, the site is only in German." so this is me hoping it's sooner rather than later Smile

And they haven't solved the clue (if there is one) on the tape so we do have something to work on I guess.

transcript translation

hilarious - it's just been about a year since Charlotte became real!

I'm happy to translate the transcript if still needed. I'm translating Dieter Schrade's Transcript from his blog http://dieterschrade.blogspot.com/2010/04/so-liebe-leute.html. Too funny that he had to play the tape in his car and record the sound with his i-phone!

- piano play / phone ringing

male person (in English): "Sally, can you please answer the phone!"

- steps / door getting closed / ringing is muffled / steps / ringing stops

male person (from now on German conversation): "ok, I'll start again."

piano play

male person: "Alright, little one. I'll be gone for a while. But I won't stay long. Next time I'll take you along, promise. You know what?
Then we'll drive together to the town where this piece/play - which I just played for you - has been written. You'll like it there for sure. Don't be sad, ok? And if you do, just listen to the tape, and think about the town and our trip, ok?"

child (presumably girl): "yes!" (laughing)

edit: I'll snoop around in the German forum tomorrow to see how much has been discussed there already.

Hi there,

my name is Dieter Schrade, i'm from Germany and i got a package, too.
I posted every hint we got so far on my weblog, the one you've already found (http://dieterschrade.blogspot.com/).

I love the idea, that the game isn't only limited to Germany but since now, every information (except the English part of the cassette) was in German language.

However, if you follow the game and need any help with understanding information or translating - please let me know. I could try to summerize things that happen, time by time. It would be a great pleasure for me, to work together with you! Just contact me via my blog or email.

Regards, Dieter Schrade

Hey there,

I'll try to summarize our current state of investigation:
On the page http://66letters.net you can mouseover over the sheets of letters. In the lower half, you can find the Link to this sheet of music. We figured that it matches the piece played by the man on the cassette, and we figured that this piece is the Piano Sonata #8 In A Minor, K 310 - 1. Allegro Maestoso by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. We also figured that this piece was written in Paris, honouring his Mother's Death on July 3rd 1778.

We then discovered that some notations on this sheet are changed and estimated that this was intentional. So we tried to discover some sort of secret code which is hidden in those alterations, but failed by now. By now, there also is the theory that this alteration in notation happened unintentionally by mistakes in zooming by Acrobat Reader. Then we followed the idea that the scratches in the paper were made intentionally, maybe displaying a roadmap of Paris, but found no matches by now.

The next hint appeared on the 66letters.net - page, hidden in the top of the letterstack: This letter saying "For Ella". The same day, we recieved a newsletter from the rabbit (which can be seen as the puppetmasters), which gave us a short reader about graphology, ending with the invitation to make ourselves known with our own caption (?) (the way our handwriting looks, don't know the exact english phrase).

We found out that this specific cassette was produced from 1979 to 1985. We also found out that the stamp that is visible on 66letters.net is the "Brandenburger Tor". This specific stamp was published 1966/67...

So, this is pretty much where we are. Dieter shall correct me if I forgot something...

If you folks come across any interesting ideas, that would be great Smile

Cheers,
Raven
