Yeah, its got that "wobbly" sound under water noises get.

Other than that, it sounds kinda like the recorder we were forced to "learn to play" in second grade. And I was about as good as the performer in the file. XD

i realize this is probably a completely stupid suggestion and if so, sorry to have wasted your time Very Happy

Thats exactly what i was thinking. Maybe the sound file is some distorted version of the Rocket Poppeteers advertisement Jingle or something along those lines.
Maybe the aliens picked up a Poppeteers radio advertisement and thats how it sounded through their systems haha.

What really irritates me is that I'm sure I've heard these tones before... I just can't remember from where Sorry. I first I thought it was from the Slusho Site...

<edit> I think the sounds are from the movie Forbidden Planet.

That would make sense, the soundtrack was all tonalities and synth.

Just catching up here, nice work all! I'm guessing this might relate to the sine wave graphic we saw popping up on top of the S8 site trailer lately? (i.e. "your next clue will be a sound file?"-type hint)

My first impression was that this could be a recording of a keypad code, and a low-quality, hasty recording of it (hence the interrupted, curtailed ending).

If so, translating 'notes' to corresponding numbers may not be possible yet without the keypad to enter them. But it's a common game puzzle to match patterns to unlock some game asset. Think WARGAMES and Matthew Broderick escaping from the med room.

But of course the puppetmasters aren't going to hand us the key and the lock at the same time — they want us to read-in every wild theory we can from this clue first! Laughing

I like this theory. A LOT. Hope it's true.

^ Makes a ton of sense to me as well... but it seems odd that that would be the case in tandem with the Braegen14 info we've found.

Re: Is it binary?

SETI etc., listen for coded frequencies, and the simplest code in the universe is binary. In amongst the radiowaves they look for patterns (like the 'wow' signal), and then much like ourselves try to divine patterns within the patterns.

Someone mentioned earlier in the post RE: Close encounters, and the musical code used to create that. That got me thinking RE: the Arecibo message (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arecibo_Message), where they pretty much did something similar but with radio waves as a publicity stunt.

Now this theory hinges on having the correct frequencies/base code, and I'm lacking the last 'odd' sound which is probably deliberate so the frequency would be helpful.

Attached are binarised images of the sequence in Hz and also at 550Hz (for reference that is 600, 750,600,850,550,650,650,950,?9th sound or 2,5,2,7,1,3,3,9,?).

FYI I can't correspond these to an obvious base code/counting system - Nor is it related to a chemical compound (yes I did think astrobiology or fusion))

NB. Morse is smart idea but too polyphonic, and have excluded patents

...........Anyone tried slowing it down??
Is it me or does that second image look like semacode?

I wouldn't be surprised if that mysterious sine wave graphic over the SUPER 8 trailer on the OS gets activated to link us to the game behind this audio clue. Maybe a keypad will await us there to unlock more game clues and/or new OS material — possibly related to RP.com too.

I tried clicking on it again today but no action. Yet.

Also, I like the theory that these notes may relate to a jingle theme for RP. That would be fun.

I might be fully wrong, but I have a feeling, it's an coded IP.
I mean, Star Trek ARG also used IPs for their chat console...

Anyway, great news, and as always - awesome job everybody Smile

I must have missed that one. I didn't know there were any graphics suddenly appearing on the trailer video. Was that at http://super8-movie.com ?

Yep, a little round graphic appears (white on black background) just as the movie begins to play. It seems to be overlaid on the player and not part of the movie. Before I saw it I was wondering whether it could be a key to add to or subtract from the tones in some way, but now I've seen it's just a graphic I don't think that's as likely. Is it definitely a sine wave or could it symbolise another maths function? Is there a way to transform the tones using sine?
