Anyone got a touch tone phone close enough to their speakers to play this into the phone and see whether it accepts the notes as keypad presses?

I tried just doing that, phone didn't respond. So I tried calling my voicemail and letting it play to see if the voicemail would accept it, but it didn't even acknowledge a key press. Good idea though.

And yeah, it may be because of new technology. I think this is the best idea so far, we just need a phone number to enter it into.

That sound at the very end has me almost convinced that it's backwards and we need to listen to it in reverse.

Hmmm found a touch tone generator here:

http://www.dsptutor.freeuk.com/dtmf/ToneGenerator.html

...now they don't sound so much like touch tone numbers, when I play back and forth between the two and compare. Sad

Backwords
Backwords

Ive tried this with my DSI playing backwords for the sound. It does sound like theirs a message behind the noise at the end, i cant deny it. But if you ignore that it sounds like someone is being tourtured and their screaming (An alien scream) which probably would match a movie...Other than that backwords with the pitches doesnt do anything. Onlything that could come out of it is the message at the end, somethign that is too low, My DSI cant amplify it that much to hear it...

Just discovered audacity has DTMF generator, and tested it. I got the phone to recognize that something was entered, but couldn't get it to recognize my true password to my voicemail. (Says invalid password no matter what numbers I give it, but it says please enter password if I don't play any tones.)

 Device found?

Not sure but....

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
How about entering the number as the device?

Was thinking of that but not sure we have the right number yet.

But I am definitely hearing two tones, so DTMF still fits for me.

Hmmm this is interesting, radio calling using DTMF (read carefully the DTMF part in particular):

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Selective_calling#DTMF

Stop posting publicly? Although it does say "posting" rather than "calling" or "signalling"...I may be reaching here.

Wow, did you listen to the DTMF example? I didn't know Stephen Hawking did voice overs. I kid........But listening to the DTMF did remind me of this:

Found this video called "Brain14 - Psychodelic Space Trippin'", with space noises kinda similar to those from the file. Pretty sure it's a coincidence, but still thought I'd share.

Damnit, i get admitted into the hospital for a few days and all hell breaks loose while im gone. After the week ive had it was nice to come home to check here and see this. This happens everytime im off here for a day or two, something big happens. I have the song Id app on my at&t pantech c740 so ill try it out on that as soon as i can. unfortunately i cant right now since our computer is in our bedroom and the wife is sleeping right next to it. dont really want to startle her out of her sleep with some weird sounding tones LOL. if no one else has done it by then ill try it on my phone first thing in the morning. if anything interesting pops up ill let u guys know, or if nothing happens for that matter. actually im gonna try it thru the headphones but dont know if itll be loud enuff for the phone to pick up but cant hurt to try. if i get anything ill post it ASAP. oh and by the way, awesome work by everyone, unfictioners never disappoint me

EDIT. ok tried it thru the headphones but it came up unrecognized but dont know if it just couldnt hear it right. ill try it at full volume in the morn

I really think we need to also take into account WHEN the tones happen. They start right at 0:00 and proceed every second until 0:07 then static for 2 seconds. So the tones are 7 seconds long, followed by 2 seconds of static (probably a message, or data transmission as it sounds to me, during the NIN year zero campaign something very similar was added to the end of a song to depict a hand in a stereogram).

you know weve had alot of these "space-related" corresponding dates since this started. one has to wonder if they do mean something or if its just one big mess of coincidences. i believe one or two is a coincidence, but this many..... i dont know , there may be something there, if we take all of them together and put into the right context, maybe there is something there weve all overlooked
