Ok, probably shooting myself in the foot here, but I re-analyzed the sound, and am attaching the spectrogram with some notes so we can visualize the actual frequencies, comparing my estimates for the values and the necessary values to 'match' the golden ratio 1.6180339, in spans of 50hz...

Like I said, the pattern is very similar, but not precise...
however, given the analog/lossy/compressed/wavering nature of the sound, it may be feasible allow a +/- 50hz margin of error or precision Razz

And so, in re-thinking after this visualization, I think it may very well be that the tone sequence is meant to represent the golden ratio. Colour me effectively convinced (for now, based on current evidence =P)

Note: values and the light/dark line graphs were overlaid by me.

maybe de device? we need is the one you need to project super 8 films or i mean 8mm film....just thinking this clues are not supose to be "easy" but they also are not supose to be that "hard"

Super 8 film had no sound.

Not true, Melody. Kodak offered two sound Super 8 cameras in 1973, well early enough to figure into a 1979 scenario for this film.

I have some STRONG point that 16180339 is the right way to read it:

Sorry if my phrase used seems like a punch in the face, I was in a real hurry, already overdue to leave for work. Found it by accident. I actually wanted to try the possibilty if the numerical sequence might be an ISBN number. Well, took me some time to figure out how they work and then tried "my german" google for 1-618 just to see what it would come up with. It came up with the german Wiki-article about the Golden Ratio. I don't know yet what to do with it either, though.
Could anyone from another country use "his google" for 1-618 ? I would just like to know if finding clues/connections by google is globally equally easy/hard or if it differs? Well, probably some of you more sophisticated ARG players already know. Anyway, thanks in advance.

1-618 for me (United States) did not find any resluts for golden ration until page 4. Only then did it find a reference by truncating the hyphen in the search criteria. I mostly got a lot of phone numbers beginning with US area code 618.

Ok, so let's say that it does have something to do with the Golden Ratio....now what? How do we use that?

also, the 1-618 thing found a book for me... entitled Theory of Atomic Lifetime Measurements, but I don't think it helps..

Wow. My bad. Sorry. I owned a few Super 8 cameras in the late 60's early 70's and those didnt have sound capabilities. Thanx for the correction.

Abrams has a thing for natural mysteries, like fibonacci and golden ratio... just look at fringe Razz

oh yeah..I can tell..I like just how intelligent he is...

and it seems like you guys are on the right path..but looking at the golden ratio..I'd like to know how it pertains to any clues...are we looking for the name of the device?

Don't think the conversions have been listed in the forums yet;

C# = 554.365 Hz
F# = 739.989 Hz
C# = 554.365 Hz
G# = 830.609 Hz
C = 523.251 Hz
D# = 622.254 Hz
D# = 622.254 Hz
A# = 932.328 Hz

So going by the frequency analysis and taking into consideration possibly lossiness (is that a word?) I'm pretty well convinced of golden ration as well.

Yes the first 8 are identical

FYI there is also a super 8 integer sequence

Heyyy!! Well, we have a match. So, this definitely is not an arbitrary collection of notes ..
The first 8 notes are the same...
Now to find out.. why?

Golden Ratio
???

It seems too coincidental that its the golden ratio...I mean it does appear everywhere but this doesnt mean anything to us yet does it? It seems like they wanted us to find it...the obvious thing. But then again nothing makes sence right now with the sound file...
