Right, it's the sound of the projector running... supposedly showing you the trailer in web design conceit, as well as harkening back to the days of Super 8 film and projector hardware. Nearly an entire generation has grown up without ever seeing those in action.

I don't find anything unusual about the length of this sound file: it runs long enough to load the trailer file on the site, then is faded out so as not to compete with the trailer audio.

Re: explanation for the strange nature of the 8th note?

So, what mind? A very mathematical mind. And a mind that came to a conflict in the end. Should it end with a 10 or a 9. It couldn't decide hence it produced the "wobble".
And now the "grand thesis": It was an artificial intelligence. It got into a conflict by the 10/9 dilemma and thus the strange very last 9th noise which is the noise of it "hanging up". Or what is that term in english when a software gets into conflict and freezes?
I know this is far fetched and totally based on theories. What do you think?

Hi SeekerX. I see your point. If you've ever watched the movie "War Games," there was a similar storyline.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
There was a computer that was going to war (or bomb another country) without a way for a human to stop it. A wiz kid (Matthew Broderick) thought to trick the computer by making it "learn" that the war was a no win situation. In this case, they used Tic-Tac-Toe, computer vs. computer. Since it would be a tie every time, the computer realized there was no way to beat itself and cancelled the bombing.

Interesting to think this may not have been a living creature.

We are also not sure when this sound byte took place, or if it's in the movie or not.

^_^

The only way for these comments to get into this file was if the programmer put them there, or he loaded the file into iTunes and added that randomness.

After a bit of digging, I agree with Euchre. The comments in the "sound 89 (over to down ).mp3" file are added by applications like iTunes. This is sound normalization data. It's a glitch in older iTunes versions. I still don't know how these got into the file. I believe they would have been put there from the programmer's computer, or whoever created the file.

Also, I deserve a big, fat trout on that one. A little bit of searching goes a long way. [Linky]

Yup, page 6 of thread onwards, each note has distinct 8 bit binary representation (from 3 digit frequency) - Tried Semacode
http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=29657&start=75

.....The only other milage in this would be to add say the next 2 digits now we know the pattern and try again-If it gets quiet today I'll generate some binary matricies (because then the orientation issue raises it's head)

With regard to clues, check the space dates thread. Here are the next few major ones:

June 21, 2004 First Manned Private Space Flight
July 4, 1997 Mars Pathfinder Lands on Mars
July 4, 2005 First Impact With a Comet
July 14, 1965 First Close-up Images of Mars
July 20, 1969 First Manned Moon Landing

Personally, I reckon July 4th is the EARLIEST we will get another clue - However I also like to be proved wrong Rolling Eyes

I betting it is July 20 and the site Rocket Poppeteers will change. There both pointing to the Moon and what better day than to update that site than the day of the first Moon Landing.

that's the EQ data you can embed via iTunes.

hey all, just an update on what ive been trying with the expcnv file, i said i would try and see what i could get out of the file with the pro studios i have access to, long story short i failed oz my uni isnt open anymore til september. to be fair though i do think that i prob wouldnt have found much new if anything and agree with peoples opinion that they wouldnt expect you to have acccess to the kind of hardware in a proper recording studio, i do reckon the golden ratio is prob the only clue to get out of that file, though i do agree with seeker x that something doesnt seem right with how the file ends on the 9th noise and the wobble on the 8th seems strange

Steganography

I just requested a trial for StegAlyzerAS and StegAlyzerSS. They're usually pretty picky about who they give those trials out to though.

I ran all of the images I could find in relation to the game through StegDetect and it didn't pick anything up.

I also ran the two MP3 files through MP3Stego. While it didn't seem to pick anything up at first glance, it did generate a blank text file from the "sound 89 (over to down ).mp3" file using the password "moon". There's nothing in the file or hex though, so don't get too excited.

Maybe after I get the trial (if I get the trial) for those two products, I can find out more info.

There was a ex-sound tech who used to record on 8 track comment a while back. Apparently the last sound is v.v. similar to a bad cut at the end of the track (i.e. hitting the stop button).... Or that's the gist of what was said - Can't be arsed to dig through 41 pages for specifics.

I dont doubt it, but I said on rp thread. I really think they'll be sending us something through the mail if the p.o. box on that page is real. to be honest I'm pretty stoked thinking about getting some arg ingame swag. I think that'd be really awesome. Rock On

I just got the software and did another full download of all files from the official movie website and the STIES site. I decompiled the flash file again from STIES and scanned all files from both sites using the above mentioned tools. Neither tool picked up anything hidden in the files. More information on the tools I used can be found here: http://sarc-wv.com/products.aspx

The sound is music. I slowed it down ( a lot) and deleted the pauses in between and you can clearly hear a song in there. I don't know the song though.

Which sound? "sound 3.mp3" (the tones) or "sound 89 (over to down ).mp3" (the dun sound)

What software did you use? What speed did you slow it down to? Can you save a copy of what you have and post it here?
