Hey Ras I reckon you do good work, just sayin... Very Happy

Been lurking on unfiction since the first lost experience and I've seen a lot of ARGing as i'm sure you all have.

Gonna make my 50 cent short -

The mind is a difference engine, it likes patterns/differences to reconcile

Granularity refers to the level of detail we are presented with at any given time...

This puzzle is obtuse (Grainy) so far

Our difference engines can't reconcile this yet...

So emotion is the understandable by-product of the conflict with ourselves, so we project to try to understand (Reconcile the difference, reduce the granularity...)

It's all part of the process. Which is great because it means our brains are working and the many excellent people here will solve this eventually...

This is meant to be frustrating, its why we play Very Happy

Oh and my question is this... Is the sound file likely to be as difficult to decipher as the 60-odd pages so far are making it out to be? is there precedence (With previous ARG's by JJ, etc..) to indicate that this puzzle should be this difficult... (I've seen much stranger puzzles chewed to pieces in minutes here by the same people working on this right now...)

Or is it more likely that the PM's are going to drop something timely to fit thier storyline/viral marketting schedule that will render this puzzle really simple? (Just going with previous experience...) Not trying to be smart, it's an honest question...

--

Cheers to yous guys Wink

Sonar is on the right track. I'm convinced this alien/creature has a sixth sense called electroreception like the Coelecanth Josh is looking for. Im certain that these tones are a recording of the electro-tones that either the creature communicates or perhaps an attempt by a person to communicate with it!

Still just a theory though Smile

Communication would seem a possible choice since it relates to Spielberg's musical communication in CE3K, which should be referenced a good deal in SUPER 8.

I can't imagine any advantage to sending out sonar pings of different frequencies or pitches (i.e. notes), since sonar sends out an unvaried wave to measure distance/spatial relativity given the constant value of the ping.

If a sub sent out sonar pings in differing frequencies each time, wouldn't it have to recompute each ping-back based on that specific frequency to get comparable results between each one? I'm no expert, maybe someone here is.

Changing frequencies would involve patterns and two-way communication (to me), not just basic sonar sounding.

Very true. I guess not sonar exactly, but the idea of electronic pings or tones at different frequencies is what I am getting at. I still dont really understand it completely, doing research though. And I dont have any evidence to back this up other than the info on the Coelacanth. So its just speculation.

i was suggesting more along the lines of what 'it' was hearing, not necessarily sending out......it sounded to me like the tones were a muffled version of what was being said in the trailer over the handsets

What bugs me is the use of the word "success".

I've never liked that word.

At least my brain still works.

Extrapolating play from the FlynnLives TRON ARG — players puzzled and guessed for days/weeks on the meaning of the dot matrix code hidden on the four postcards. We could guess at part of message but the back half of it was far too incomplete to gain the solution.

Until a fifth (and sixth) card were mailed out to a few people (I was lucky enough to be one of them), and the solution dropped in our laps.

Most codes need a key to decipher them, and this one needed a key clue/component to get it. As intended — the PMs obviously withheld the last info we needed to solve it until the desired timing.

This would seem common for an ARG that is driven by a pre-determined schedule (of film release), and not gauged by how fast players engage in it.

I'd say we're in the same circumstance for the tonal audio clue. Let's face it, we're just too smart and ahead of the game, now we have to wait for the calendar to get the next piece of the puzzle. Very Happy

Bugged by the word 'success'

It gratifying to note tha you're 'bugged' by more than an emoticon.

You made my day..I don't know what you made it with, but thanks! Razz

New Info
New Info

Been watching from a distance, thought I'd chime in now that I've read this whole thread.
Since there was discussion awhile back about 22 stars w/ the Poppeteers stuff, does anyone think it was related to the date that SDCC started? It is related to the most recent "new info" sorta...
Also, does anyone think the license plate is relevant? I haven't seen any close up pics (just the ones on the wiki) so I don't know if it's a California plate or something else, but it's been listed as being 1B03193. Anyone think it's relevant to anything currently being discussed?
I'm still trying to figure out the trout/flounder/etc stuff...but if someone feels it's deserved I'll take it with some lemon and butter plz.

LOL!

You are talking about the plate on the Ice Cream truck!!

My bad ... At first, I thought you were mentioning a (long ago) reference to the plate on the SUV from the original Cloverfield teaser!!!

LOLOL

And, it has also been discussed: http://www.movieviral.com/2010/07/23/rocketpoppeteers-tweets-comic-con-updates/

TQ is referring to the new plate 1803193/1B03193 and whether it was related to 16180339 (phi) or stars.. Which has not been yet explicitly discussed...

I believe this is the correct response:

Flounder

TQ what do you mean by SDCC; loosing track of my TLAs Wink

You know, Ras, you can always edit your original post instead of creating another one. Just FYI.

Meanwhile, what fish do we award from trouting the wrong trout post/topic? Laughing

I vote for the Slammin' Salmon.
