I'm not annoyed by any one "similarity" but I feel like he uses too many. Having The Operator symbol, or coughing fits, or white-on-black narration slides, or a creepy stalker who sends you grainy footage and random packages, or someone who supernaturally breaks into your house, or a friend who is slowly driven insane by Slenderman and then disappears, or Slenderman distorting your footage, is an homage. Having ALL OF THEM is ripoff territory. Yes you need a few of those to establish that it's the same villain but you don't really need every single one.

I still actually like TribeTwelve despite that, which I guess shows that either I am easily amused or he's done a really good job despite what I said Smile

I'd be pissed too, but the thing is, Tribe Twelve pulls the creepyness off about 90% close to MH. If Tribe Twelve videos were made badly, it would be a completely different story. Thing is, TT video quality and effects are just irresistable. Another thing: TT does something that no other sidestory (besides Seeking Truth) does, which is make an emotional bond to the character. Honestly, I wouldn't care if J, or the EMH guys died, but I'm pretty sure I'd be a little sad if Noah died.

Still, MH is the only series that scares me enough to lose sleep.

Oh, sorry if it sounded like I wasn't talking to grim joker. I quoted you because I thought it would look like I was adding on to that discussion. Sorry!

Yeah, I'd kind of just stare blankly at the screen if the EMH guys tried to fight Slendy and failed miserably. Even seems adamant on that point.

Anyway, yeah, there are just bits and pieces that each video series and blog adds to the overall mythos that could and should be effectively used by new ones. TT does it flawlessly, especially since Noah was (I believe) the pioneer in the tentacle effects.

I actually feel a lot of emotional connection to the EMH guys, but in a different way. If Evan or Jeff dies, I'll feel shocked and a bit sad. If Noah died, I'd feel just devastated, because unlike them you really get the feeling Noah doesn't have anyone but us.
J's in a similarly lonely situation, but (until recently) he's just been a vague presence, a blank slate onto which we could project ourselves.

TT is not the only series with an emotional attachment to the characters. Just because you don't have one with them doesn't mean that the other members here don't either. I am pretty damn sure that if any of the main EMH cast was killed, a good percentage of this forum would flip a shit. I do agree that TT created a bond with its character, but so has EMH, and arguably MH.

Pills... Really?

Yeah. Marble Hornets homage, or just another ripoff? You be the judge.

Spoiler alert: It's a ripoff.

I view it as less of a ripoff and more of a canonical idea dealing with Slendy gaining more Observers or tothearks. If Tim is totheark in MH, then Noah might be a candidate for a totheark figure. That's what I've generally always thought Tribe Twelve was about. The title hints at it with "tribe" and Noah has been slipping further and further into madness and his life is being consumed by the Slender Man and the Observer.

or maybe its just adding on to the mythos of the pills?
If we apply your shitty logic to the operator symbol, than every singly sidestory sucks balls.

Sounds like someone missed their nap time. Take it easy man. I'm not saying having the pills makes TribeTwelve terrible, but by no means can you equate the mysterious pills to the Operator Symbol. The Operator Symbol is widespread and has essentially become a calling card for Slenderman. That I can accept, considering it's a very unique part of the mythos that has an actual legitimate reason to be replicated. However, the pills on the other hand, are not a commonly recurring part of the mythos, nor do they have a legitimate reason to be widespread considering it's not much of a calling card, and it was a specific plot device specifically in MarbleHornets.

Copying a specific plot element from another series =/= Creating a common theme for a mythos.

You are insinuating that the pills are an specific plot device for Tribe Twelve, and that has yet to be seen. Who knows if he'll even talk about them again. Your judgement is just way too cursory. Slow down.

You wouldn't say Inception sucks because it borrowed the concept of 'you don't know when you're dreaming or not' from The Matrix. They both pulled it off well, in both cases.

That's different and you know it. Two movies that have plenty of differences thematically, and the Matrix wasn't quite as ambiguous about it, not to mention that it wasn't really a main part of The Matrix whereas it was the entire focus of the film in Inception.

I'm not saying Noah isn't going to use the pills in a unique way, I mean, he has to. We don't know what they did in MarbleHornets. My entire point was that he could have easily avoided using those pills, just as he could have easily avoided half of the shit he took from MarbleHornets, but he obviously chose not to, and now it's just another thing to add to the list of things he took from MarbleHornets.

The fact of the matter is, it's insignificant.

Got it. I am just saying my opinions though, this isn't a senate debate, no one's speaking as a representative of a whole forum.

Grim Joker: The Operator symbol was the original creation of MH. When it was first revealed, MH was the only story featuring this symbol. Only until other blogs featured it did the Operator symbol become this "calling card".
It puzzles me as to why the second blog that featured the symbol shouldn't get the same criticism as TT.

What if the pills in the future become very apparent?
