I'd say that's more a tip of the hat to the original series than an actual sign of cross-continuity. Kind of like the nods in all of the Pixar movies, each film contains elements of all of their previous films, but that doesn't mean they're all set in the same universe. Unless it has a legitimate bearing on the plot I don't think it counts as a crossover.



Plus the fact their is so many Alex's in the Mythos.


Slenderman's name is Alex, I'll bet.

 		To be fair, there are alot of Alexs in real life. My current boyfriend's name is Alex, my first boyfriend's name was Alex. It's not that unlikely.

theres actually a few of them.

i just found it also creepy that if you have seen the movie, one of the characters Olaf seems to really love Eyes, they are everywhere throughout the movie. and the observer loves eyes. i don't know, i just thought it was worth mentioning.
