I have been lurking for about a year on this site, and when I saw this little arg and what Lysithea said I thought "Hot diggity!" and decided to sign up.

Anyways I'll start immediately on making my little sock!

The secret is glue.

In the original Kickstarter video, Jim demonstrates how to make a sock puppet. He makes a template out of corrugated cardboard, glues it to the sock with a hot-melt glue gun, and then glues a felt oval over the top to hide the raw edges. The use of felt is important because it is easy to work with, doesn't fray around the edges, and looks neat.

You don't need a glue gun, in fact I used clear craft glue* for mine. Clear craft glue takes longer to set than hot-melt glue, so I used clothes pegs to hold everything in place while it was drying. I have also used fabrics other than felt for the mouths, but I had to glue the edges down first.

When the game launches, there will be more detailed instructions of how to put together your sock puppet avatar. In the meantime, you can watch the Kickstarter video and ask further questions here. Smile

*Actually I used a bottle of clear acid-free scrapbooking glue because it doesn't let off noxious fumes. However quick-drying products like this one are easier to work with. (I don't recommend 'white glue that sets clear' for sock puppets because IMO it doesn't work well with fabric items)

Literally, with hot glue. Wink Looks like the April launch is right on schedule. Very Happy

Here is the official "How to make your sock puppet" video:

Looks like a "low temp" hot glue gun in the video.

Plus Florence's introduction video:

I feel as though I've been waiting on this game for a long, long time. Any notion as to if this is actually going to get started soon?

And a nice little not on Kickstarter:

Hi Kickstarters!

It's live, we did it! You can go to SocksInc.com and sign up and start playing.

It has almost been a year since I started working on this project, and in that time I've had some awesome highs and terrible lows. But I can say this for a fact - sock puppets truly did inspire me to new levels and even helped me make it through my bout with cancer. This project would not have been possible without you and your support… my promise to you kept me accountable and drove us to make a silly little idea into to something amazing. This is yours…

So where to now? This site is a public beta. We have additional functionality that is already in development; things like ways to react to other player's submissions, earn badges, and even create your own departments. We hope to have these features out soon.

We still need your help! We want to take this thing that you helped us build and share it with the world. Here are some things that you can do to help us grow and make Socks, Inc. an amazing experience for everyone.

*

Ladies and Gentlemen, lend me your Tweets! Please share SocksInc.com on your social networks… let people know that you helped make this.
*

Play it! And give us feedback on bugs, things that rock, and things that could rock more. We can continue to better this together.
*

Share it personally with someone that you know will enjoy it.I guess that is it. Once again, thank you so much…

I couldn't be more excited and happy to share this with you. I am straight up jazzed Very HappyI hope it didn't take too long for you, and I hope that you had a good experience supporting this indie project. If you did, please make sure to keep supporting the little guy/gal.

<3 Jim

p.s. Like us on Facebook for a chance to win a camera and sock puppet kit!

Outstanding. Very Happy

Each mission at www.socksinc.com has an introductory video. My favourite character so far is Basil the Groundskeeper. Keep your eyes open during her video to spot the sneaky visitor behind the tree...

Very Happy Nice. I've been snooping for Easter eggs and other such goodies.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
It's possible to see all the videos without ever completing missions Sad Jim might want to prevent that. Should I put it in the feedback section?
