Evokenet
New Project by Jane McGonigal [Beware of meta in first post)

Hi people,

I couldn't find any information in this forum about it, so I just open new thread.

Attention: here comes some meta.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Anyway, Jane McGonigal reported in her blog about her new project, called EVOKENET.

Excerpt from description:

About the game
The goal of the game is to help empower young people all over the world, and especially young people in Africa, to come up with creative solutions to our most pressing problems: hunger, poverty, disease, war and oppression, water access, education, climate change.

The game is a project for the World Bank Institute (the learning and knowledge arm of the World Bank).

We consider it a crash course in changing the world.

The game runs for 10 weeks, with a new mission and a new quest each week.

Players who successfully complete all 10 missions and all 10 quests will be able to claim their honors: World Bank Institute Certified Social Innovator – Class of 2010.

Top players will also earn mentorships with experienced social innovators and business leaders from around the world.

And:

(If you just want to play the game, follow @evokenet on Twitter or email evokenetSPLATgmail.com to receive an alert when we launch.)

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I don't know, whether it will be an ARG like "Find The Lost Ring" or global fun activities like "Top Secret Dance Off", but I suppose, it will be cool again.

Are you in? I'm in.

Following too many games so probably not gonna play, but I was just curious as to whether the excerpt you quoted is meant to be written in character, or if its just the PM coming out from behind the curtain before the game even starts? If so, blergh.

Well, perhaps I should say first, as far as I understand, it's meta information. But hey, it's McGonigal, it will be beautiful experience again - I played her games, I just know it Smile

P.S. But you're right, perhaps we should move this thread to Meta or Press thread till the game begins, dear admins?

No curtain to worry about here

Hi all, just a quick note to let you know that there's no curtain to worry about here. This is not an ARG in any "this is a not a game" sense, it's an ARG in an "alter reality" or "change the real world" sense. So please don't worry about any in-game, out-of-game, in front of curtain, or behind the curtain thing. There's no mystery about what this game is or how to play it once it launches -- it's 10 weeks, with 10 epsiodes, 10 quests, and 10 missions, and completing them all means getting certified by the World Bank Institute as a social innovator.

I'll be thrilled to have Unfiction folks participate because this game is about applying creativity, collaboration and resourcefulness to the world's biggest problems. And Unfiction is obviously a hotbed of all 3! But you know, this is not by any means a typical puzzly ARG. Think more Top Secret Dance Off or World Without Oil.

I'm in. (if the admin approves me, I may have, not surprisingly, erred on the log in process.)

I'm excited to see what we can do with the presented problem...I've been dreaming of something like this since the glorious days of ilovebees taught me about collaboration, trust, enthusiasm; and, confirmed my belief in how freaking smart and creative the uf crowd is.

I see this as a natural progression from wwo and the last game that Ken Eckland and gupfee worked on. Sorry, I don't remember the name of it, I wasnt able to play it and I regret missing their work.

I hope a bunch of us give this game a shot...we have a lot to bring to the table here.

Plus, selfishly, for me, a game is no fun without you guys playing too.

I think registration is open until March 3rd or so, so please join in. I found out about this game from reading Jane's blog at this link:http://blog.avantgame.com/2010/02/urgent-evoke-reserve-your-spot-as.html

Sorry, I have to brush up on embedding links! Haven't posted online for months and it isn't exactly like riding a bike...it doesn't just come back to you.

I've signed up as well. Can someone direct me to the correct thread for this - or tell me whether there is even going to be a thread for it??

On the Evoke website, under 'About Us' you'll find LOADS of 'heads up's'

Apparently, over 20 clues in the video. Links on the top menu of the website shows loads of start-up info, like investigation files - for background etc...behind the scenes - loads!

This is the correct thread for this game! Post here and the thread can be moved, more threads made as needed. I didn't realize there were clues in the trailer; I would enjoy a discussion of them.

Great! I can't wait for beginning. The trailer is great, isn't it?

I cannot take part on game start, since I'm till 9th March away, but as I'll come back, I'll be also completely in. Smile

I have had my account pending for approval since monday. Anyone else not getting approved? Or is it that I didn't upload a picture of myself yet when I signed up?

I don't think it was the trailer, Episode 1 was the comic strip on the website, I think the clues are in that

Also as with hunter I'm still pending approval anyone else?

Lets find those clues!

Several people have confirmed to me that people will not get approved to enter the EvokeNet site until it starts on March 3rd.

On an unrelated note, while I'm writing this Jane McGonigal is on stage at TED 2010.
