No one has talked about the Dggie Academy poster. Their website doesn't say anything about "this is not a WLOG clue".. so it's probably fairgame. It's in brooklyn. Anybody pick up anything from that? It's such a clearly placed poster/clue on the episode, yet everyone is so quite on it... so i'm suspect that it's a clue and folks have found out what (notice how folks contribute less and less as they seem to be "on to something")

And on the same note, could someone please translate Tom... i'm sure someone has.. I'd rather discuss it here than bring it up to my japanese friends who don't even know about the hunt (who needs more competition right?)

None of the other website links have been anything other than tipping hats, and the game website says that everything we need is on their site / in the videos. I say don't bother the poor doggie academy. Smile

A challenge to SpyGuySailor

Who else here wants to finally see some proof of what "SpyGuySailor" has been spewing about since this forum started?

He's claimed to "find it" or "have a hot lead" like seven times now... and his incessant talk of The Water Club's Crow's Nest is just getting ridiculous now.

I have been silently watching this forum, have been hunting for treasure just like all of you and I just happen to live in New York city. The Water Club is a CRAPPY CATERING FACILITY and there is NOTHING of value at that stupid Crow's Nest that pertains to this hunt. It is EASILY found in a Google search of "crow's nest" and would be the easiest and simplest minded clue so far if that actually it.

So, "SpyGuySailor"... post a picture, proof from Google (maps or otherwise) SOMETHING, ANYTHING to back up your words.

I second that motion

I second puttap's motion. If you have good reason to think that the Water Club is important, then post it. You've already given away the important info, so you've got nothing to lose.

On top of that, from what I've seen, nothing SpyGuySailor has posted has been even remotely insightful. "The end of the search" was near several weeks ago, wasn't it?

Also, thanks fellowtraveler. You've posted useful tools for participating in the game.

just a heads up

i noticed in episode 4 that the creators clearly wrote "clue 41, 42 and clue 28 (furlongs).

can we presume that 42 clues have yet to happen prior to corthers losing his arm and leg?

which could mean that only several clues per video, the solid and yet obvious clues are the ones to really focus on? i know, everything seems like a clue. but can we try the process of elimination method? we need to build on something solid here. too many perhaps and what if's...would you guys agree?

p.s. has someone already mention silver lake park on staten island, possibly "the silver coast of africa"?

Thanks for the kind words. I agree that we need to regroup and try to come to a consensus about the "solid" clues if we are to have any hope of regaining the momentum we had up until the third episode was released. My plan is to create a master clue list after the sixth episode is released (i will still be posting a transcript as well), and to create several maps showing alternative valid paths based on the competing solutions for the clues.

I think it just means you have a big mouth (joke!). I believe it means reaching a certain number of posts.

What do you think?

For some reason, I keep envisioning the 4 in the crew taking separate routes after the second episode. Like they got on different trains and got off at different stations, only to regroup again somewhere else later, possibly their current location.

clues
interpretation

In response to RockyRoad's query, I had a long summary but it got lost because it used the word for a card game that rhymes with joker and didn't post because the computer views posts using the game's name as spam.

To summarize, I think the Captain is diabolically crafty and I have no idea where the treasure cache is.

If I were able to visit NYC, though, in terms of where I would go, I would go to places I've never been that I found the nicest places to visit on a sunny afternoon -- like Belvedere Castle in Central Park and the environs, starting with the bridge that has gothic architecture and what I think looks like a squid on each railing. All the architectural features on bridges are unique, but I believe there is a bridge (in addition to the Gothic Bridge at 94th) near the reservoir that has what looks to me like a squid (two on each side on each end). For lack of a better idea, I would be looking for a key tied to a tree located in low weeds. (possible anagram of WINDOW SELE and a different phrase that I forget) But I would be mainly going for the exercise and nature walk in a park -- and concentrating on taking pictures. As these videos unfold, I still would keep a keen eye out for numbers that point to identification of a bridge. jrc or someone has posted a map showing 8-digit numbers. Although I don't recall it being discussed, I take special note of the Captain's hand gestures.

By way of analogy, I just found a car key that would have cost $1400 to replace. After it was found (after 3 months) my brother-in-law a few minutes ago said the KISS principle applied. Keep it simple. My wife found it right where I dropped it and statistically it was highly likely to be.

As a corollary, I think the solution will be elegant. The puppeteers perhaps will want to prompt a hand-to-forehead reaction among a wide audience. (Although I appreciate there was nothing simple about Mr. Stadther's solution and yet Treasure Trove was a wonderful family experience).

if someone's listening
example of Captain's possible trickery

"Ya bury a gold 'ta keep a secret.

And if someone's listening, it ain't a secret anymore."

--The Captain

Note that under one possible interpretation, all of the audio in the videos is just entertainment and the location is identified by what can be read. Possibly in something as simple as the Captain's hand signals.

That is, what you hear rather than see isn't a clue.

That would simplify things considerably.

Consider the movie "Ghost Writer."

The secret was revealed by the "beginnings" of the long book -- the first word of each sentence at the top of the page.

It identified the former Prime Minister's wife as having been recruited by the CIA when the entire entertaining movie and lengthy book was a red herring pointing to the Prime Minister as the one having been recruited.

"Now why don't you just tell every spy between wind and water how to listen to our secrets."

I myself favor steganography in sending coded messages.

I myself prefer stegasauri in sending coded messages. They're much more durable than carrier pigeons, and they work for peanuts...
