Belvedere Castle
knocking

http://muppet.wikia.com/wiki/Count_von_Count%27s_Castle

famous knocking scene at Belvedere castleL

In a late 80s Sesame Street sketch, Susan Sarandon and the Count take shelter in a storm at the front door of an imposing castle. The Count knocks several times, counting the knocks as he goes. When it's clear that nobody will answer, Sarandon urges the Count to stop knocking. The Count says that he knows nobody will answer -- it's his castle. He was just knocking so that he could count the knocks. He then proceeds to count the numerous locks on the door as he lets them in. (EKA: Episode 2615)

Belvedere Castle hypothesis
lightening

On the shows 35th anniversary and Olberman's 1st anniversary, the Count was interviewed on MSNBC and brought him one wonderful present -- and then there was thunder and lightening. Perhaps he did that on other shows and it was a recurring thing.

Belvedere Castle
the hug

It was Loretta Lynn who looking forward to the day it would be the two of them in the castle, gives Count a hug in "Count on Me" before you can count to three. She'll always be his number one.

Master and Commander
accidental shooting of doctor upon shooting at bird; monkey

In Master and Commander, a sailor accidentally shot the doctor while shooting at a bird.

I fast forwarded through the movie but FWIW I vaguely recall, I think, that maybe the doctor had collected a monkey on the Galapagos -- letting him loose when they needed to hurry back to the ship upon spotting the Acheron off the coast.

Have we discussed the significance of the number 143?

It is in Mulligan's twitter name.

It is also in one of the user names that scrolls through at the 33 second mark of video three.

143 stands for I Love You.....1 letter in I, 4 letters in Love, and 3 letters in You

Bummer...I thought I was on to something too. Having not let go of my personal Todt Hill bias, I googled 143 Todt Hill and got a site called www.sitreasure.com . You can imagine my excitement, right?? It turns out that there is a 143 Four Corners Road (just South of Todt Hill). The number four, 143, Todt Hill, crows nest, siTREASURE.com........I had already spent that 10K in my head!

"I Love You".........really?!?

Maybe I was right all along....what road takes you to 143 four Corners Rd? BENEDICT Rd.

Treason!

Where's my cheeseburger???

how IMO MASTER AND COMMANDER set the overall course
scene with Hasty Pudding at annual dinner celebrating Nelson's courage

The Captain determined that they could not let such a ship (with such fortifications) escape the region and he shoved the pudding (made out to be that ship) into his mouth and triumphantly announced that they needed to reverse course. That dinner was an annual celebration celebrating the courage and military genius of Nelson, who now has been clued even more clearly by his birthdate and death on a tombstone.

So I viewed it as telling us, upon arrival at Columbus Circle, that we needed to go back into the park.

I definitely recommend watching the movie. There was the south by southwest or whatever and then there was the dramatic turn around the ship. I only watched part of the movie and haven't read the book -- but even with that there were numerous parallels.

It occurs to me that the beach scene in the pirate videos now fits perfectly with the time on the island that the doctor was finally allowed to spend collecting samples -- only to find that the bad guys were there too.

Exit at Rockinson, 28 furlongs, 41, 42, 43

This does not fit in with my theory of where the treasure is but maybe this is helpful to one of you who are looking for the treasure in the Brooklyn area? I know some of you were posting about the surrounding cemeteries last week.
http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?hl=en&ie=UTF8&msa=0&ll=40.741043,-73.922946&spn=0.001185,0.002057&z=19&msid=116942545679104253802.000490242ca68e898ea75

Furlongs used to be lengths of fields/land....which is why I counted blocks and not miles or actual furlongs.

earlier odd use of the word "zone"
one possibility - quiet zone

Turtle Pond (next to Belvedere Castle) is a quiet zone.

Master and Commander
carved maiden on Maddie Hayes

From poster's review of MASTER AND COMMANDER:

"There are so many exquisite, incredible things along their journey, it is truly breath taking. Little things that would have been omitted in a lesser film, such as the attention to detail in repairing the ship, including chiseling and patching up the maiden gracing their stern, make this a film worth savoring."

Master and Commander volumes

To possibly answer Missry's question, how do the M&C references give clues, I think that there is some significance to which volumes are referred to, their order of publication, year of publication or something.

I have 5 references I'm sure of, and several others.

"sea as dark as wine" -- The Wine Dark Sea (16, 1993)
"afore the boom of the thirteenth gun" -- The Thirteen Gun Salute (13, 1989)
"Treason!" -- Treason's Harbour (9, 1983)
"you little yellow..." "Not the admiral!" -- The Yellow Admiral (18, 1996)
"Treason! Treason, treason treason!" -- Treason's Harbour again, and again

In addition, the death of Lucky Jack may refer to the last, unfinished novel (21) left "hanging" by the author's death. I found references saying the the ship was struck by lightning in two books, Far Side of the World (10, 1984) and HMS Surprise (3, 1973). An accidental shooting with a bird involved is only in the movie, apparently, but the movie incident combines two episodes, one from number 3 in which Maturin is wounded in a duel (he kills the other man), and one from number 10 in which he is injured in an accident.

Other things seem like they may be significant, but I couldn't find anything on the web relating them to Aubrey-Maturin. Among these are the general theme of ghosts, the statements "a night like tonight", "the moon were the color o' blood", and "the black gates o' hell". Tom's feather duster stands out to me too, but that could just be a humorous sort of stage business.

Any others? Any ideas on how to turn these into places or routes?
