Re: Gifts
Put your money where your MOUTH is...

I think these "gifts" are buried with the gold VB/VD found and with (Daniels?) relatives...

From the FAQ:

"You're looking for the treasure chest. That's it. All the clues you need are found on the welostourgold website. Nowhere else. We did not leave any physical clues for you to find.

You might stumble across parchment from Mulligan advertising the site, or chest itself. Those are the only things we've physically hidden."

This leaves open three possibilities:

- The "gift" is in the form of an electronic communication. (Not a lot of "time and money" involved in that.)
- The "gift" is a piece of parchment (maybe the site refers to the site of the
location of the gold). Again, not a lot of time and money involved. Also, not a great way to preserve a clue.
- The "gift" is completely made up by the poster.

Guess which one I think...

I have been on here since the beginning, and have NEVER made up anything, or claimed to have any clue where the gold is. HOWEVER, if you would like to put your money where your mouth is .... I will 100% show you the "gifts' (3 of them) that I have, and I am guessing the same 3 "gifts" that Sonic has, and I am guessing that if ANY of you have any puzzle solving logic, and weren't sideteracked by running off on nonsense clues, YOU as well have these gifts and are keeping your mouth shut!!

YES, the gifts cost TIME and MONEY for the puppeteers, and I am sure they follow this board, and if they do, they know EXACTLY what I am talking about. I wish someone elee would come forward to also say they have the "gifts" (without sayig HOW they got them), because if you did not get this ...you are LOST and digging wayy too deep instead of actually WATCHING the videos.

Spaniard..

Spaniard: Slow down a minute, and apply some "common sense' here. I understand it makes sense if A clue points to Belvedere Castle, and then Belvedere Castle points to the next clue. That makes sense. However... just ACCEPt the clue that leads to Belvedere Castle, and work from there. You don't need to come up with 300 other "clues" to point to Belvedere castle. You already got the Belvedere Castle clue..now move on..and stop trying to find 300 other things in moveis that point to it. unless it's the final spot (which its not), they arent going to hide 300 clues to all lead there. You found the one clue to lead you there..now move to the next clue.
I actually agree, Belvedere Castle is a "stop" on the path ... but you then have to go on to the NEXT spot.

I still am hung up on the footprint that Mulligan drew in episode one. He said it was the most important clue. Then he tweeted something about his clue that was drawn in crayons. Does anybody have any idea what this footprint refers to?

I think this and the Crow's Nest is the key to finding the treasure.

When seen from above, Grand Army Plaza looks like the traced outline of the captain's shoe: http://www.centralparknyc.org/visit/things-to-see/south-end/grand-army-plaza.html

This would make sense since the clues would follow the path to the "armies"

That looks nothing like the footprint, it's too long and thin...I think the footprint is still an unsolved clue, and may be a very important one.

Yeah the 2 separated halves of the plaza look nothing like the 2 separated halves of the footprint.

Gifts.

Sooo....

I can confirm there are "gifts".

I suggest that those who have figured it out should keep it to themselves.

I know that sounds mean, but that's the reward for figuring it out, isn't it?

bird watching - free eye glasses, map and drawing materials
scan of map sought

"I actually agree, Belvedere Castle is a "stop" on the path ... but you then have to go on to the NEXT spot."

If I ever am able to make a trip to NYC (we love it but it is expensive and takes time to chase flying birds), I would go bird watching with the free binoculars, maps and sketching materials at Belvedere Castle they give you for bird watching in the Ramble and other locations. Then I would scan the map for y'all to see if it could be useful in deciphering clues.

"A favorite spot for bird watching, the Castle is also one of the Park's information hubs, and is home to the Henry Luce Nature Observatory. Activities and tours are frequently run for children, and you'll find some hands-on exhibits relating to the Castle's long history as a data-gathering outpost for the US Weather Bureau. Check our calendar for listings.

Also at Belvedere Castle, the Central Park Conservancy lends Park users a free backpack containing binoculars, a guidebook, maps, and sketching materials for bird watching in the Ramble or other locations in the Park. Two pieces of ID are required ....

Be sure to climb the narrow stone staircase two flights to the top - the view is magnificent ....

Turtle Pond runs below the Castle, and besides being home-base for tons of turtles, it shelters frogs, fish, and waterfowl. ... Since the pond is designated as a quiet zone, this is a nice peaceful place to sit with a very young child and commune with nature."

Comment:

On the general issue of subway, I get the feeling that the Cap'n hates it and is looking forward to bigger and better things.

p.s. On the armies (see someone's post above), that is understood to refer to where they place chess ("48 armies"). (There are 24 chess boards and 48 armies).

captn - do you have any ideas on the gifts? I mean they have to be a clue but I haven't got much out of them yet.

CAPn: I figured you would be one of the people with the "gifts". I originally invited you and pancakes into that other topic, because i had that feeling from the beginning that you were taking a more 'straight forward" approach on the clues, like I have been.
I think people are digging wayyy too deep for refernces, and homages... instead of looking at the actual clues that are obvious in the videos.
I agree... i'd rather keep that to ourselves for now, because it could be the missing piece that someone needs to end this.
I am curious to ask 2 things:
1. Did you make any "use" or clue out of your gifts?? (i think I may have)
2. I'm curious if our gifts are EXACTLY the same. (this may be a way to distinguish which PART of the gifts are a clue).

Join and PM me and we will talk. There is nothing I can say publicly about my position with the gifts that wouldn't clue people in.

an even more fun turret to check out
would be the original "House on a Cliff"

The birdwatching map, according to the fellow who takes reservations for the birdwatching pack, is online at the main website.

If you want some exercise checking out a cannon turret, there's always the blockhouse -- the original House on the Cliff (see Hardy Boys #1).

http://www.centralparknyc.org/visit/things-to-see/north-end/blockhouse.html

What do you have to lose other than a few pounds?

Gifts I would assume refer to a solid clue, not a distraction. I have a habit of focusing on the distractions Very Happy but I like how angry commonsense is about his gifts! Shows that the man worked for his gift

Belvedere it is, I'll have to go back today after work for a third time!
