Re: time to share my A HA! moment from last week...

I think it has to tie in somehow. And I am hoping if this helps anyone, you will have a kind word or two for me (not the usual two words you might want to use... Razz ).

Anyway, the "gorilla" has been a thorn in my side since ep 3, and even more since ep 6. A gorilla in the room, as defined by wiki, "refers to a large, unstoppable individual or organization that can exert its will as it desires, even if people do their best to ignore it."

I think I have the name of the gorilla, and if you read his bio at wikipedia, or thepirateking, or maritimehistory, piratesinfo, unMuseum (or almost any other source), you will see why I feel there has to be a correlation. There are a few sites that COULD be linked, but I haven't been able to make the right connections. Here is what I think relates:
1. Pirates
2. pistol-loving Captain
3. Captain bashing Mulligan over head
4. Waiting until night
5. from opening of ep 3: "Others are desperately searching for what could be the first real buried treasure in New York City's history."
6. "HMS Maddie Hayes" = Moonlighting = secret second career
7. "cut him twice"
8. Black Tom (check out the "quartermaster" Hendrick van der Heul)
9. O'Brian novel titles: Letter of Marque, and the name of a captain in his novel "The Golden Ocean"
10. Scottish (Arthur the Scotsman)

and other things in the story line that will seem familiar (burning cabin, etc). Of course they also parallel the Aubrey-Maturin series.

I am tossing this out since I don't have the brains to make the connection to a place. So other than being the 800-lb gorilla in the cabin, maybe it is just one really big homage.

SO, everyone take a deep breath and then google (-another 800-lb gorilla exerting influence over how things work--but hey, I am not complaining, I like it!), or whatever search engine you prefer, the name:

WILLIAM KIDD
A real pirate associated directly with early NYC (partially responsible for the physical building of Trinity Church), who did bury real treasure on Gardiner's Island (off Long Island's eastern tip), and who was the inspiration for many pirate novels like Treasure Island. He also is rumored to have drawn his own treasure map.

SpyGuy has soured the sharing of findings here, I think.

Everybody knows he is watching and nobody wants to fill him in on anything.

In my honest opinion? The hunt for this treasure has rightfully become a "mercantile" atmosphere.... much like the trading cards in Episode 6. I've got this, and you've got that..... let's compare!

Not only do I think it's fair, but it's also quite the nautical way (check ANY movie about seafarer's.... they all trade as they meet or pass.... ie: 'Waterworld' and the scene with the nectarines)... and I have a feeling that the puppeteers wanted this (hence the aforementioned trading cards).

As for SpyGuys ramblings? Keep em. His input was like a Tom Henke baseball card.

Your sporadic and rude opinions are what probably chased him away captain. After all, you were being a total jerk to spy guy. I think you are the one that no one wants to share with and why the boards changed. I would like to ask you one thing. What have you discovered of importance and shared with the rest of us? Give me something you did not just find from a forum, or this forum for that matter.
As far as saying that his information was useless. I disagree. I think your info has been worse than anything. Do you remember that San Diego quarter back that was named Ryan Leaf. Thats what I think of when you speak out captain. You ruined the forum with an interception record worse than your completion record.

Thanks for playing.

You've added nothing, either, I've noticed. As for Spyguy? Please.

I really don't care what you think of me.

Finally Joined
Willing to Partner

As my name suggested, I was going to attempt to complete this race going solo. However, I have found myself at an uncomfortable stuck point.

I think I have proven myself useful to this hunt, giving information prior to others, and finding clues, as well as putting a rationale spin on complicated patterns.

If anyone agrees with me that there is a simple rationale solution to this problem, and has new information that they need a set of fresh, trust-worthy eyes to glean the possible meaning, I am now an official member of this forum for the purpose of private messaging.

Still open to the forum sharing quality of the sight, but I don;t want to be missing out on big clues as well for sharing. I am a Brooklyn based hunter, so I have easy access to any points in NYC. And I drive. And I am self-employed, so have time to look.

There's my pitch. Let's keep things peaceful and solve this thing.

I think Cats Meow made a great call with the 'monkey business' Youtube video

YouTube: Link

Me thinks our puppet pals were giving us a legit shoot with the Larry King ticker about the gorilla not having any meaning though the Captain Kidd comparassion is interesting, but perhaps as mentioned merely yet another homage ... I remember Captain Hook being mentioned the other day; wasnt one of Captain Hook's ships named after Captain Kidd?

Clues
Stop and Think of what they are

Number Four: Did anyone think that is pretty much on the spot where the treasure is? Look at a map.
Plastic bottles: What does a plastic bottle stand for this day and age and what would that look like in a park??

Everyone has to slow down and think of things that are in a park. No place else.

This puzzle seems to work the following way: 1) clues are given to the actual park & neighborhood in every episode. 2) There is also directional clues given from episode 1 to 6 ok somewhat 7. Ep. 7 & 8 pretty much narrow it down to the location in that park.

I was at the park today but I came up empty because 1) my metal detector is a very low functioning cheep one and is on the fritz, 2) the park has a massive amount of garbage, 3) my young daughter is not much of a help to me and 4) my husband has severe arthritis and is not really able to help much. 5) We had to get home because my disabled son needed us.
I am stuck doing things on my own. If I do not find anything by this weekend.......I might be asking some one for help so I suggest you all play nice. Wink

Why? There are dozens of other public places where a treasure could be buried.
