"kid giving the sign of victory with 4 guys behind him and then something about the silver coast of Africa"
Okay, I know it looks like I am fixating a bit, but maybe:

Victory Sign - Victory Boulevard
4 guys - 4 Forts: Wadsworth, Tompkins, Worth, Richmond all under the foot of the Verazzano ("under their bridge")
Silver Coast - Silver Lake Park

i understand what your saying but theres so many possible things that these clues could point towards and i guess silver lake is southwest of central park in staten island but i would need more clues to connect it to staten island

Any ideas about the smoldering cannons of destruction? We just finished following the clues, and I think we've got a good hold on the other clues, but this one baffles us . Battery Park sets off its cannons on holidays, and Roosevelt island has some disused arms mounted on its forts?

Thank you fellowtraveler what what.

PS in your list of clues, did you leave out the potato? That one seemed obvious even to me.

Fellowtraveler thank you so much for sharing the transcript. I have a question on one part.

I hear this more as: knocked the sleeves off this beautiful red coat. ?

Ok, this sounds absurd, but if we're talking bridges, cannons, and Staten Island, there's a still active army base in Brooklyn, Fort Hamilton, with a massive antique cannon parked outside of it.

It also happens to be in my neighborhood.

Also, looking at the reply that just came in, this moving out of the park and in to Columbus Circle makes a lot more sense.

also, Fellowtraveler is awesome and we should all acknowledge that fact.

P line

Here is what I think. If you go by the fire a cannon South by Southwest clue and follow 8th Ave. from Columbus Circle it will take you to Madison Square Garden, which underneath that is the subway Penn Station. The term P line, as it was proposed for use at a later date, is not used as it could cause bathroom humor (Mulligan's reference to having to pee). I found this a while back so I think I have been on the right track. I found it here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York_City_Subway_nomenclature and scoll down to this area and read: Unification and BMT/IND service integration. I will work on this more tomorrow as I have a splitting headache. Talk to you later.
