Okay, here is the transcript of the third video. Sorry about the delay but they posted it earlier than I was expecting based on the time they posted last week's video. Also there was a lot more information/text/etc. to deal with in this video.

I will post my in-depth analysis of the clues tomorrow, but I agree that the video is telling us to take to A/E train from Columbus Circle.

Thank you, fellowtraveler!

I agree with the subway analysis as well. Mulligan does seem to be an authority on ports, before the ticker talks about Pennsylvania, so it does seem to be following that blue line south. They've mentioned four about a trillion times - maybe that's the West Fourth Street station? Cortlandt St only has northbound service.

No problem. As you can see, my discovery after the first episode was posted that the Glove and Boots guys were the puppetmasters behind the treasure hunt has been vindicated.

It is too bad I didn't archive the old version of their website at the time, since it is totally different now. But I'm pretty sure there weren't any clues on the old site. Although there were some additional videos and a few pages found by clicking on secret buttons.

By the way, this is the scene from the trailer which shows Mario.

Now that the puppeteers have identified themselves, perhaps fellowtraveler can post the "secret information" he/she deleted from one of the previous posts? That would be interesting to re-read.

Thank you fellowtraveler, as always.

I just have one disagreement: the backgrounds were red and orange, not orange and yellow. I think this is for B/D/1. That, and there's a scene where if you look at the Larry King lights, there are orange and yellow lights next to one another and you can see that the yellow is in fact orange.

Just my one minor note.

Okay. This is a repost of what I had previously deleted from this post:

[Decided to retract this stuff again]

I remind those of you looking for past iterations of the Glove and Boots website of the wonders of http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://gloveandboots.com (The Wayback Machine) -- bane to many an ARG developer repurposing old websites.

I love the little critters. They were cute on the "Larry the King" video, and they're equally cute on their YouTube channel. It'll be interesting to see how/if they get worked into the puzzles / story (beyond being the victims of pirate plundering).

Spoonsy: I actually noticed the color mis-identification myself after posting the transcript but before I read your post. Except I thought that the background to the feed for Mulligan and the Bird is actually red - not orange, and the background to the Captain's feed is orange. The two backgrounds look fairly similar but they are actually different shades. I never considered that Crothers' and Black Tom's backgrounds could be orange though, since they looked yellow to me. I see what you mean though, and if you are correct then that would simplify some problems I was having in plotting the path.

I have already corrected the transcript to reflect the accurate colors per your post - Mulligan and the Bird and the Captain (Red), and Crothers and Black Tom (Orange). The colors (along with a few bits of dialogue and the numbered list infographic) are the clues to tell us which train station we will end up at, so having the colors listed accurately is vital.

Once I have a candidate for the final route worked out - hopefully tomorrow - I'll post it along with an explanation, but in the meantime I thought I would share my basic reasoning first.

As I see it, these are the major clues in their order of presentation:

1. Red, Red, and Orange are the colors of the first box layout of the feeds shown. These refer to the colors of train lines, and I don't know if the order of the colors important. It may be that just the fact that they are all "present" at one location is all that is needed.

2. The Captain's caption title is "Commander. HMS Maddie Hayes." This is a reference to the C train, and maybe the M and S trains. Not sure what the H might stand for yet (perhaps the Rockaway Park Shuttle?). I believe that the order is important.

3. Crothers' caption title is "Crewmember - Brigand - Roughian." This is a reference to the C, B, and R trains, and I believe that the order is important.

4. Mulligan's caption title is "First Mate - Loves Crows Nest." This is a reference to the F, M, L, C, and N trains, and I believe that the order is important.

5. The number one is spoken and written down on the infographic. This could be a reference to take the 1 train at some point. I am doubtful that this is even a clue.

6. The number two is spoken and written down on the infographic. This could be a reference to take the 2 train at some point. I am doubtful that this is even a clue.

7. The Captain states that "Ya best mind the gap in yer face!" as number 3 on the list. This is almost certainly a reference to the gap that is sometimes present between the subway car and the station platform in New York City's subway system at certain stations. In such stations, platform gap fillers are employed to bridge the gap. I believe that the clue is telling us to go to one of these stations and take the relevant train line - likely the 4/5 line at Union Square or the Shuttle at Times Square. It is possible, but less likely in my opinion, that the number 3 itself is also a reference to the 3 train.

8. Mulligan says that "[t]here are four of us in our crew and I ain't never seen more than four docks in one port" and this is represented on the infographic as "There are 4 in the crew. He's seen 4 docks." I believe that the words docks and port are oblique references to train lines or tracks, and stations respectively.

9. The Captain responds by saying that "[t]here be five docks in the Port of Cortland" which is represented on the infographic as "There are 5 docks at the Port of Cortland." I think the same holds true here. I suspect there may be some P/C letter substitution as well. I do not believe that there is meant to be a direct reference to the subway stations at Cortlandt Street or Van Cortlandt Park / Woodlawn, but I admit that I do not know this for sure yet.

10. Mulligan clarifies his earlier statement by saying that "you can't see all them docks at the same time" and the infographic is later updated crossing out the fifth statement. I do not believe that this is a new clue in of itself. Instead I think that it is a refinement of the last clue. You are looking for a station which has five train lines or tracks, but where only four of which can be observed in one place or at one time. There are only a few stations which meet these criteria, and from the context provided by the other clues we should be able to narrow it down to one candidate.

11. Black Tom's caption title is "Corsair Supremo." This is a reference to the C and S trains, and I believe that the order is important.

12. Red, Red, Orange, and Blue are the colors of the second box layout of the feeds shown. These refer to the colors of train lines, and I don't know if the order is important.

13. The Captain refers to Crothers' blue hat (and also mentions black and white). Could be a reference to the Blue train line, but might also not be a clue at all.

14. Blue, Red, Red, Orange, and Orange are the colors of the third and final box layout of the feeds shown. These refer to the colors of train lines, and I don't know if the order of the colors is important. If all that was required was that all these colors be present in one location, then that location would have to be Columbus Circle, which is right where we started.

Other minor clues, which simply indicate that the major clues are all related to the subway, are Mario's statement that "[w]e're on the right track" and the Captain's oblique reference to "Subway" by mentioning "Jared from the bloomin' sandwich commercials."

The order of the clues is key, because we are basically being told to switch trains somewhere between five to seven times.

episode 3
here

please correct me if im wrong but the subway station near columbus circle has a sign over the entrance where the colors are blue on top(for the A&C) with orange (B&D) and red (1&2) below it on the sign and it resembles the still frame from the video when fafa asks if this is a clue. the c stops there part time or not at all and the 2 only runs there at nite and the b doesnt run at nite so there is really only 5 ports and only 4 can be seen at one time. i know its a little confusing to understand but the way i see it A 1 B D run there all day with the C part time or not at all and at nite the A D 1 2 run there with the C part time or not at all. with all this being said i believe this whole clue is just to get us into the subway station and on the blue line but i dont believe they have even givin us a direction yet. i might be simplifying this too much but the way i see it they have to try and keep everyone interested so i believe it is dumbed down a bit so everyone can follow it. we were 2 weeks in and had only gone from balto to columbus circle, not really globetrottin if you know what i mean. thats all i have for now.

old versions of gloveandboots
are at archive.org

Mario and Fafa would perform in the subway until they opted for the internet.

there is a subway map at the original site
archive.org

I reached the old site by going through the link to Wayback at Alexa.

When I used archive.org directly, I didn't get anything.

(I don't know if I repeatedly mistyped, but if you don't reach the old versions going back to June 2004, retry using the lower right link at Alexa's webpage for gloveandboots.com)

Message in a bottle

So... Sarah74 was correct. There are "messages in bottles" in Central Park at the previously described locations. I have one.... I found it on my way to work this morning under the bridge by the bathrooms.

I can't scan the message (yet)... but here's the jist...

It's addressed to Johnny Longbottoms. It has a proper looking "compass rose" insignia and is cornered by the same "octopi" on the website. It also has the website address at the bottom of the page. It was curled up and wrapped in twine, which stuck out of the top of the bottle making it easy to remove the message. It was cut on the edges to look authentic.

The basics are this... The Captain suspects mutiny among his crew, so he's telling Johnny Longbottoms that he's moved the gold and that he's buried it "at the beach past the Conference House where only Tutty, You and I would know of.... where we killed that feller Arthur". He then continues to say that HIS clues are the only one of any importance, and that "Cruthers and Mulligan don't have a wit between them". He says that he is going to give the proper amount of "steps and turns" to find the final digging location in the videos. He finshes by saying to meet him at the Conference House after he's dug up the gold, and that "If this letter should find anyone but Johnny Longbottoms, to throw it back in the briny sea or else he'll keelhaul you and feeds ya to the fishes". He also mentions that we will hear the word "Ferry" and that we would know exactly what to do when we hear it.

I've been silently monitoring this thread.... I've seen NO reference to a Conference House, or the name Arthur. The message seems legit and I saw broken glass at other locations leading me to believe there were OTHER bottles that were found by OTHER treasure hunters.

So... thoughts?

Also? I have done a general search on the keywords. I don't think the reference to "Larry King" and "Kings County" matches up anymore. I think it leads to another location.... Keep in mind the LARRY KING LIVE is filmed right at the CNN studios Columbus Circle.

Once I can scan this letter, I'll try and post.

-Roger G.
