Red Herring?

I'm not so sure. It looks pretty damn good. Unless you think the puppetmasters themselves are doing the red herrings?

Gold

There are a couple of things I think are worth mentioning:

1. Despite the claim that the gloveandboots.com videos have nothing to do with the hunt, the videos have definite tie-ins to the episodes, e.g., references to summit/highest point, changing letters in a word, specifically "ele", and a blue hat on fire. So there may be clues there, or these may be red herrings. Given that we think the ticker has clues despite claiming not to, I think we should think about what's in the gloveandboots website.

2. This is actually the picture of Mario from the trailer:

Don't know what it means. He's sucking on a lollipop? It ties in with candy references from one of the gloveandboots videos?

re Jared reference

Subway
likely already been mentioned but in case it hasn't

At the end he says he hates Mulligan now almost as much as Jared the fellow from the sandwich shop. FWIW, that would be an allusion to subway.

Colors

The color of the backgrounds sure look orange and yellow to me. Mulligan's and the Captain's backgrounds do not look different. There are things that are red: the puppets tongues, the banner on the screen, Larry's suspenders, the remains of Crothers' clothing etc., and M and C backgrounds are not. It is true that Crothers' background is not a bright yellow, rather an amber.

The L and S lines are gray. If you think that each shift of scene is a different station or train, note that the captain (orange, imho) is on the screen with B&W Crothers. An orange line crosses a gray line at 14th St, Myrtle-Wyckoff Av, and 42nd St.

I think it is most likely that the Blue over orange/orange/yellow/yellow signifies that they are going out the Queens Blvd. route. On the other hand, while the previous videos did not cover many miles, they did specify a dozen locations, so I would sort of suspect this would as well; that argues for a many-station interpretation.

Reminding you also, from Spoonsy:
Quote:
how'd i get up here (blue background over red/orange and yellow). as of now and as of the time these videos were created, the subway system is different. the M, which is orange now, was brown then. the W, a yellow line, no longer exists, nor does the V, an orange train.

The videos may be updated, it would be relatively simple to do post-production, I imagine.

Yer not bad...ye founds it ya did. T'ain't yer fault ifn ya found whats thet lefts.

It would be kinda cool if they did spread some message-bottles around, especially if they are neat looking. Those who find one will have souvernirs, sort of like the DaVinci Code cryptex I got when that was going on.

I hope they aren't leaving real clues around for only one person to find. There may be multiple copies of one or a few clues. But even that would be for only people in the area to find, which would make it strictly a local hunt, unless we out-of-towners are lucky enough to have sharp-eyed and generous locals sharing all the necessary clues. Thank you Purplebeard.

The beginnings of welostourgold?
gloveandboots

So I also went to wayback in order to see gloveandboots.com. In the last update I clicked on their bulletin board. They had a note that mentioned a secret club. Here's what it says:

Quote:
Secret Club Info!

The Invisible Seam Team....

The Invisible Seam Team will be a group of people that has a secret mission once a week. These missions will be fun, and will benefit both glove and boots and the seam teamer.

This is a FREE club and will in no way impose on you financially, or take up more than the amount of time that YOU the seam teamer would like to put into it.

There will also be contests within certain missions that would only involve people in our secret club--and when there is a contest there is a prize!!!!

As soon as we get 100 invisible seam teamers, we will kick off our first secret mission.

If you are interested in becoming a seam teamer, please send Mario an email at marioSPLATgloveandboots.com and say:

I want to be an Invisible Seam Teamer.

RETURN TO BULLETIN

So I googled invisible seam teamers and found this on myspace:

No prob

Well... I DID see other broken bottles and twine along the way... I've been walking this path ever since the hunt began. I saw at least three other possibles.

Considering the fact that you have to dig up the treasure, I believe this very well may be a local hunt Sad

I'll at least send you guys a pic if you help me find it Wink

-Purplebeard

P.S.: I did think that if this "publicity stunt" doesn't work out the way they planned, they could always just have a friend of theirs dig it up and give it back to them after the hooplah. The rules are loose and it's not being strictly monitored by any outside agency.

jrc, they look orange and yellow to me, too. I thought there might be something wrong with my monitor, so I double checked the color resolution with the swatches here.

Sure appears to be orange and yellow.
