Wooo - check me out triple post!

I've condensed the transcript from the discussion last night down to the key points, cleaned up the spelling and a bit of grammar (forgive me, I'm a grammar fascist), and hopefully made it easier to follow. I'll not post it here as its still veeeeeeeerry long and would stretch the page, so the link can be found here:

http://verydistilled.blogspot.com/2011/01/vanessa-atalanta-trilogy-puppetmaster.html

Heres the stuff we discussed, just to whet your appetite (incase you werent there):

Quote:
Introductions: Paul (the PM) introduced Deni (his right hand (left hand) guy in Canada) and discussed his role.
Final Scenes: Did we destroy the plants? Did that go how he expected?
Changing Plans: Why the start of the game was slow, what changed.
Differences from MoA: self explanatory.
Technical Advances: Deni talked about his role, and what they'd both like to do in the future.
Characters: Were they believable?
Missing Threads: The ideas and concepts we just totally didn't get. What Vlad was talking about and the idea of the "Third Option".
Nature of ARGs and Puzzles:What they were trying to acheive and problems with ARGs in general.
New View: What Jess thought of the game, as a new player. Who Orpheus REALLY was, and his relation to Meeka.
Future Plans: Self explanatory.
Who played who: Who played which character.
Claire/Ben?: What will happen between Claire and Ben?
Meeka: Whats she up to now?

Ok, to avoid quadruple posting here is the "final background" image. The ALT text on the site is "Forest of Life" and it can be found here: http://theorderofoborot.com/

The three images look very much like electron microscope scans of... Something. Behind we appear to have a genetic code (with alpha and omega at start and end). Not sure what else though.

Edit - the code repeats itself; tggtgggtc. Not able to find much more on this yet....

Well, going off A-Level biology I know that the TGGCTCTCG etc is genetic code, I've found the specific "TGGTGGGTC" code here:

http://rulai.cshl.edu/tcat/module-sites.cgi?tissue=Heart&species=Mouse&module=M00448-MA0073

Which links to the genetic code in the heart of a mouse... no idea what that means though. I'll have to dig deeper.

Actually, having flipped the image you can see that the code doesn't just repeat itself. There are several times when there are 3 or 4 Ts in a row, suggesting the sequence varies.

The whole passage is comprised of blocks of 8 Ts and Gs separated by a C each time. Binary letters are in blocks of 8, the first one we have here is n (TGGTGGGT=01101110). I'm going to see if I can transcribe the whole doc...

I'm slowly (very slowly) converting this into binary and converting it. I've done about four lines so far:

"Night-folded flowers shall suck".....

It's taking blimming ages! Any ideas on how to do this faster so we can reveal the final message?

Dagada - can you start from the bottom? I've done about 10 lines from the top - hopefully we'll meet in the middle.

But its soooooo long *glares at Crescent*.

Ok, fine!

I suck at transcription, but this is what I've got so far (accounting for my mistakes with best guesses):

night-folded flowers
Shall suck! unwithering thus in their repose;
And men and beasts in

Good work! And yes, it is rather long - but that's Crescent for you. (Fnarr)

I've translated about the last twenty lines, starting from where the B is on the picture, and have this.

"ce of her Who takes the life se, even as a mother, holding her child says 'leave me not again'

The ce is clearly the end of a word that follows from the previous line. Not sure what se is - most likely my bad typing and means Sea.

How far down are you?

Let me se...

I'm just onto the "B" box - so line 18.

Edit: here's what I've got exactly - I'm putting what I've transcribed unaltered just incase you want to draw other conclusions from it (and laugh at all my mistakes):

nigt-foldjr flowers
Shall subk!unwithering hus in heir repose;
And mev and beasts in appy driams shall gather
Strength for the coming day, and all its joy;
And death shall be the last

So (what I think it should say):

Night-folded flowers
shall suck unwithering thus in their repose;
and men and beast in happy dreams shall gather
Strength for the coming day, and all its joy;
and death shall be the last...

Who's betting the word there is DANCE?

Do do we have the whole thing now?

Night-folded flowers
shall suck unwithering thus in their repose;
and men and beast in happy dreams shall gather
Strength for the coming day, and all its joy;
and death shall be the last dance of her
Who takes the life se, even as a mother,
holding her child says 'leave me not again'

Aha and Oho! It's a quote from Shelly's Prometheus Unbound. Prometheus, of course, stole fire from the gods and was eternally punished through a living death (until Kratos met him. Ahem)

Here's the full quote, in context, as spoken by The Earth to Prometheus:

Quote:
PROMETHEUS:
Go, borne over the cities of mankind
On whirlwind-footed coursers: once again
Outspeed the sun around the orbed world;
And as thy chariot cleaves the kindling air,
Thou breathe into the many-folded shell, _80
Loosening its mighty music; it shall be
As thunder mingled with clear echoes: then
Return; and thou shalt dwell beside our cave.
And thou, O Mother Earth!--

THE EARTH:
I hear, I feel;
Thy lips are on me, and thy touch runs down _85
Even to the adamantine central gloom
Along these marble nerves; 'tis life, 'tis joy,
And, through my withered, old, and icy frame
The warmth of an immortal youth shoots down
Circling. Henceforth the many children fair _90
Folded in my sustaining arms; all plants,
And creeping forms, and insects rainbow-winged,
And birds, and beasts, and fish, and human shapes,
Which drew disease and pain from my wan bosom,
Draining the poison of despair, shall take _95
And interchange sweet nutriment; to me
Shall they become like sister-antelopes
By one fair dam, snow-white and swift as wind,
Nursed among lilies near a brimming stream.
The dew-mists of my sunless sleep shall float _100
Under the stars like balm: night-folded flowers
Shall suck unwithering hues in their repose:
And men and beasts in happy dreams shall gather
Strength for the coming day, and all its joy:
And death shall be the last embrace of her _105
Who takes the life she gave, even as a mother,
Folding her child, says, 'Leave me not again.'

NOTES:
_85 their B; thy 1820.
_102 unwithering B, edition 1839; unwitting 1820.

ASIA:
Oh, mother! wherefore speak the name of death?
Cease they to love, and move, and breathe, and speak,
Who die?

THE EARTH:
It would avail not to reply: _110
Thou art immortal, and this tongue is known
But to the uncommunicating dead.
Death is the veil which those who live call life:
They sleep, and it is lifted: and meanwhile
In mild variety the seasons mild _115
With rainbow-skirted showers, and odorous winds,
And long blue meteors cleansing the dull night,
And the life-kindling shafts of the keen sun's
All-piercing bow, and the dew-mingled rain
Of the calm moonbeams, a soft influence mild, _120
Shall clothe the forests and the fields, ay, even
The crag-built deserts of the barren deep,
With ever-living leaves, and fruits, and flowers.
And thou! There is a cavern where my spirit
Was panted forth in anguish whilst thy pain _125
Made my heart mad, and those who did inhale it
Became mad too, and built a temple there,
And spoke, and were oracular, and lured
The erring nations round to mutual war,
And faithless faith, such as Jove kept with thee; _130
Which breath now rises, as amongst tall weeds
A violet's exhalation, and it fills
With a serener light and crimson air
Intense, yet soft, the rocks and woods around;
It feeds the quick growth of the serpent vine, _135
And the dark linked ivy tangling wild,
And budding, blown, or odour-faded blooms
Which star the winds with points of coloured light,
As they rain through them, and bright golden globes
Of fruit, suspended in their own green heaven, _140
And through their veined leaves and amber stems
The flowers whose purple and translucid bowls
Stand ever mantling with aereal dew,
The drink of spirits: and it circles round,
Like the soft waving wings of noonday dreams, _145
Inspiring calm and happy thoughts, like mine,
Now thou art thus restored. This cave is thine.
Arise! Appear!
[A SPIRIT RISES IN THE LIKENESS OF A WINGED CHILD.]
This is my torch-bearer;
Who let his lamp out in old time with gazing
On eyes from which he kindled it anew _150
With love, which is as fire, sweet daughter mine,
For such is that within thine own. Run, wayward,
And guide this company beyond the peak
Of Bacchic Nysa, Maenad-haunted mountain,
And beyond Indus and its tribute rivers, _155
Trampling the torrent streams and glassy lakes
With feet unwet, unwearied, undelaying,
And up the green ravine, across the vale,
Beside the windless and crystalline pool,
Where ever lies, on unerasing waves, _160
The image of a temple, built above,
Distinct with column, arch, and architrave,
And palm-like capital, and over-wrought,
And populous with most living imagery,
Praxitelean shapes, whose marble smiles _165
Fill the hushed air with everlasting love.
It is deserted now, but once it bore
Thy name, Prometheus; there the emulous youths
Bore to thy honour through the divine gloom
The lamp which was thine emblem; even as those _170
Who bear the untransmitted torch of hope
Into the grave, across the night of life,
As thou hast borne it most triumphantly
To this far goal of Time. Depart, farewell.
Beside that temple is the destined cave.

Nice work - I suppose if we had just googled the first few phrases we couldve saved ourselves a lot of work!

Supposedly (thanks Crescent) we need to apply each section of the piece to a chapter in the game. So:

VANESSA ATALANTA
Quote:
PROMETHEUS:
Go, borne over the cities of mankind
On whirlwind-footed coursers: once again
Outspeed the sun around the orbed world;
And as thy chariot cleaves the kindling air,
Thou breathe into the many-folded shell, _80
Loosening its mighty music; it shall be
As thunder mingled with clear echoes: then
Return; and thou shalt dwell beside our cave.
And thou, O Mother Earth!--

MINISTRY OF ARGON
Quote:
THE EARTH:

Thy lips are on me, and thy touch runs down _85
Even to the adamantine central gloom
Along these marble nerves; 'tis life, 'tis joy,
And, through my withered, old, and icy frame
The warmth of an immortal youth shoots down
Circling. Henceforth the many children fair _90

15 DAYS OF DARKNESS

Yes? No? Gonna have a think about this over the next couple of days.
