Apologies for double post, but:

Marguerite Catherine Perey (19 October 1909 – 13 May 1975) was a French physicist. In 1939, Perey discovered the element francium by purifying samples of lanthanum that contained actinium. She was a student of Marie Curie. In 1962, she was the first woman to be elected to the French Académie des Sciences.

The elemental number of Francium is.....

87 Laughing

And the straggling astrologer' whom we have to thank is Robert Cross Smith.

In 1824 Smith was appointed editor of a new periodical, The Straggling Astrologer, (later renamed The Astrologer of the Nineteenth Century), in the twelfth issue of which appeared for the first time his pseudonym 'Raphael'.

Good work. I've been looking to see if there are any relevant folk born on Jan 4th but, oddly, that year seems to have no famous babies.

I'm pretty sure the right date will link, somehow, to some birth, death or discovery judging by the past MO of the clues. The solutions so far have linked to people in the scientific and astronomical community.

I think there were a couple of other people further back in the thread that posted card details but no image. Have we got all their details?

You're very kind. Very Happy

I noticed one other thing. The coded link the email led to a web page about the cluster M87.

EDIT: Hmmm. Rosicrucians. Thirteen original members. Formed in 1313.

My reasoning, may be waaaaay off, is that the original members were 12 'apostles' seated around one king. They based their thought on Matthew 13, link here:

http://skepticsannotatedbible.com/mt/13.html

IIRC, Matthew 13 has already been mentioned by Orpheus.

EDIT 2: (I have too much spare time Smile )

Idmon's Postcard wrote:
I know a government man who is as blind as the moon

is from David Bowie's 'Time Will Crawl' - he really likes Bowie as well as 87 Laughing

But, the same card also mentioned 'Barrow's friend'. I've searched and searched, and found that John D. Barrow was a theoretical physicist who studied with a David Deutsch, whose 1997 book 'The Fabric of Reality' makes a lot of reference to Alan Turing - a Bletchley Park link, but I may just be clutching at straws.

EDIT 3:

I just re-checked all the postcards and astrological tables and the date has to be 4th Jan 1924 at Midday (GMT) on the following evidence - the matches are as follows:

Idmon = Moon 14.57.07 Sag - Yes
Castor = Uranus 14.21.19 Pisces - Yes
Medea = Venus 11.22.32 Aquarius - Yes
Ametus = Jupiter 8.49 Sagittarius - Yes
Atalanta = Pluto 11.17.11r Cancer - Yes
Palamonius = Saturn 01.07.23 Virgo - Almost (the glyph on the card was Scorpio but Virgo's glyph is very similar)
Erginus = Neptune 19.55.18r Leo - Yes
Calais = Mars 21.10.27 Scorpio - Almost (actually 20.10.27)

Getting the moon so accurate means that the time of day indicated (Midday GMT) must also be accurate.

Still - do your sums and work out, with others how to find us. And who we fight.

So does this date tell us REAL (i.e. not the same as is widely believed) date of DEATH (rather than being a birthdate) of the person we're looking for?

Cortez

P.S. (OT) was watching the football this evening and Adrian Chiles' first words were "the darkest hour comes before the dawn". Maybe he's the PM Laughing

Ah yes! Through our actions and reasoning with the NPCs last "game", we prevented the death of Frank Watson Dyson on a ship. Through a coded message he hinted at his real final resting place in a wood - although this happened after the suggested date.

However, I've just noticed Freeman Dyson was born very close to the suggested astrological date - 15th Dec 1923. He's 86 right now.... 87 in December.

But then that's a birth, not a death so might be a red herring.

Edit - yup, O pretty much confirmed it's not Freeman when I asked him about Half Lufe. Said he's much more interested in realities.

Ahhh - does the MC on my card = Medium Coeli?

Does this make sense to those with Astrological skills, or help us narrow things any further?

OK, O on direct message from Twitter pointed a couple of us at a chatroom, where he confirmed my suspicion that the date is 2 days after Sabin Baring-Goulds death. He said something about a blog of sorts from Sabines father, Edward, and that the name Oroborot should never be mentioned as will bring suspicions to bear. In fact shortly after O logged off, a Ben V logged on Based in Ontario, Canada, he not only knew of SBG and knew he was dead, but was overly interested in SBG's father blog, Suspicious much? Razz So I say we're talking about werewolves and send him to a live journal about them, which charmingly he says is garbage, and seems very angry, but pointed me to a rather nice website of his Book of Werewolves. He leaves the chat shortly after as both Dreamer blue and I are well cagey about giving out any more info, saying he's got to fix a mates computer, Dreamer notes that Canadians don't say mate Very Happy

Ben V was mentioned on Claire Vanessa Atalantas fb some time ago:

#
Claire Vanessa Atalanta I have no idea lol! I was really struggling with my poe paper, even with miss rennet's extra tuition so i was chatting to some people in a chat room about poe and Ben was very helpful! And sweet. And actually really cute! But (and it's a big but) he lives in canada! He's supposed to be coming to london in decemberish i think. It's nice to have someone to talk to anyway. I'm just a bit hesitant you know.

Me: Yeah, don't blame you being worried about getting in touch with freaky people over the internet *looks shifty* So he's a Poe fan?

I think that is part of the reason. The honest truth is that I'm very wary of men in general. I have no idea why. All of my friends seem to meet guys at pubs or clubs and chat to them and then meet up again and start their relationship ther...e. If I meet a guy like that and they start to chat to me I feel scared and just want to get out of there. With Ben though that initial fear wasn't there because we were talking about my assignment, but now we talk nearly every night, and i'm startijg to feel that fear in my stomach, so i'm trying to just take things slow and not get dependant on speaking to him.

Anyways lol, yes he's a Poe fan, which is one thing we have in common!! Oh and he likes women who think for themselves which is one thing I have going for me lol. Erm he's 34 so a bit older than me, pretty cute and he's a mature student at the canada campus of uni. He's on about coming here to london to celebrate Yule with his aunt, which brings me to another problem. he's Pagan and I'm Catholic!! Whatever will my mother say hee hee. Oh and his name is Ben Vehra, in case I haven't mentioned that already lol. Anyways we'll see how things go.See more

Very brief chat with Vlad...I misunderstood and thought he was chatting with James, so I backed off:

Having trouble following all of this astrology stuff, but that's probably got something to do with it being past my bedtime, haha...

Anyway, I hadn't been on FB for a while, so Vlad asked me if I was okay. I answered that I am preparing to move to a new place, so things have been a bit busy, and he responded with:

Vlad wrote:
Not a worry at all - just making sure my friends out there in the world are ok. Good luck with the move. It's never easy with any large change - 2 days can shift the whole world [the usual time it takes to pack or unpack I find]

Whether or not this actually relates to the game, I'm unsure, but I thought it was interesting nonetheless. He sent that last night, so its quite likely that if it was meant to be a hint, whatever he was hinting at has already been solved by our supersleuths Laughing Good work guys!

I'm pretty sure it relates to the game and RL. Our lovely PM is a clever chap and I always admire his ability to turn any situation into a clue.

The "two days to pack and unpack" line is interesting. And why is it important that the real death occurred not as historically recorded. And why is a writer of fiction, folklore and hymns suddenly so vital when The Ministry previously spoke of having been founded by men of science.

Thought about mentioning that the link to the chat site should have been posted here as uF is always about sharing but guess there's an exception to everything. Sad
