Monkey pin
it looks so familiar to me

I remember seeing that monkey somewhere, but I just can't place it.

It looks similar to the "cocktail monkey" (Google link) that used to be hung on the rim of a glass.

GeniferB mentioned in an earlier post , the Chinese Zodiac. That seems like a good lead.
Except for the curl of the trail, the pin design is very similar to what appears on the 2004 Australian Lunar Gold Coins depicting the Year of the Monkey. (see attached)
The monkey is on a branch, which symbolizes a wood year.
According to wikipedia, wood monkey is:
January 1944 – 12 February 1945
January 2004 – 8 February 2005
Neither of these dates makes sense to me in the context of what we know so far.

I haven't been able to track down the designer/artist of the coins, so it's not clear to me if this was an original design by the Perth Mint or borrowed from existing art.

Yet, neither of these would have been where I'd recall seeing that pin. Hmm, I wonder if my mother had one just like it.

Your image is zoomed in very far however it looks like you flipped the ENTIRE image(not just the left side because it is mirrored). Why is this? I am confused on why people keep flipping the images...there is no need really except for the mirror image which technically you dont need to flip except to read the SOLD...otherwise its just a reflection of the lamp etc over and behind the viewers left shoulder.

I just need some more understanding , not being sarcastic....

I think v37 is on the very right (correct) lane here.
There definitely are smudges(?) on that corner like he stated. Those point to a real corner of that wall. If you look at it closely the wall does not end at a 90° direction (from top to bottom). So there is perspective within the whole image.
Amblin, can you paint a scetch in whatever freeware to explain your thoughts? I have problems to understand you just by tongue.
Anyway, thx v37. I was already on the verge to go with the 2 photos on top of each other theory. But those smudges you saw point to another direction.

More On Monkeys ...

I was looking through monkey pictures on-line, and there's one thing I noticed ...

African Monkey tails curve downward, as opposed to Indian monkeys (whose tails sometimes curve upwards), like the one on the hat.
(similarly: African elephants have BIG ears, while Indian elephants have small ones).

Anyway ... Wasn't a Monkey the first living thing we shot into space?

Depends on how you look at it really. Some bugs were first.a monkey was sent but a dog was first to orbit the earth. But a monkey was not the first living thing no.Bugs i forget what kind and some plants i believe went first.

First animal in space

If by "we" Ras meant the U.S.,

Wikipedia says: "On December 13, 1958, a Jupiter IRBM, AM-13, was launched from Cape Canaveral, Florida, with a United States Navy-trained South American squirrel monkey named Gordo onboard."

Intersting that Gordo is a form of "Gordon", as in Cooper.

Russkies sent dogs first, though.

I don't know if I'm right, but the "separating bar" on the lesser side of the photo looks to me like it might be a steel bed frame, the kind like I had when I went to college. Maybe an army bed? Could this be someone on base? Just a thought, and my first post!! Very Happy

*EDIT* Actually, the more I look at it, the more I'm convinced that the left side of the original picture is something else. . . to me it looks like the wall that's projected on ends at that left edge, it's almost like you can see the corner of the sheetrock, how the edge is slightly round and the texture of the wall has no bumps on that edge, like an outside corner.

Is it possible that the left third of the photo is indeed a reflection, but to a mirror that is behind the projected-upon wall? It might be at an angle to be showing us what is directly behind the wall, and that would account for the darkness of that section, despite the projection. The "separating bar" still is a puzzle though, it looks almost like a window frame, something wooden with some of the paint scraped off.

*DOUBLE EDIT*
Also, come to think of it, with the box marked sold and all, is it inconceivable that this person sells antiques on ebay or something? Maybe that's how they came across the film reel to begin with.

Btw, seeing red hat again, I recall the Red Hat Society. Does somebody know, whether this hat style is typical for this society?

Or Monkey as sign? In my linked Wiki page there is butterfly on a hat.

Lol, I found myself browsing in Red Hat Society Shop
http://www.redhatsocietystore.com/Red_Hat_Society_Hats_s/249.htm

I have a feeling, the Madam's society is founded by aliens Laughing

Hey guys, been lurking for a few days, finally joining the conversation. What I'm wondering is what is that inconveniently (or conveniently) placed horizontal wooden-looking thing across the left third of the picture? It looks like it could be blocking view of something important... >=(

It's the cross piece of a window. The stuff you see on the left is the reflection off of a window.

Oh, duh. It's definitely a window.

So far as I know the Red Hat Society allows any kind of hat, so long as it's red.
