Doesnt the letters look a bit like they were hand written? (sorry if this has already been posted)

But look at the pen/marker by the projector. It has a red tip that could have been written on the projector. Also the projector looks like an old school elmo

Oh wow, you are fully right: Cooper as founder of Red Hat Society!
Either it's a hint, or a huge red herring.

They also used such thing in last LOST ARG (Mysteries of Universe) with that old existing radiochannel, which had many coincidental parallels with LOST, but which were used cleverly by PMs.

I don't think that is the projector in the photo, if it was, the projected image would be way more distorted than it is. I believe it is some kind of record player or reel to reel, I lean towards record since it looks like there's records on top of it.

Ahhhh true now that i look at it, it does resemble a record player. It has that plastic/glass flip top case on it. However, the letters still seem to be hand written by a color that resembles the pen/marker in the photo. Not really sure if it could lead to anything but it seems worthy enough to point out.

I wrote to Red Hat Society a mail with picture of hat.
Either they will think I were completely gaga, or they perhaps can answer Smile

I agree on both accounts. The box does look like a record player. And I think it would appear the pen is suppose to be the one used for the letters. Just because we're assuming the projection is being done by reel with the video footage and not an overhead projector doesn't mean the marker isn't the one used for the lettering (written on white paper and added with stop motion maybe?).

I don't know anything about video and certainly not older versions like we're working with here. Would it look as normal and smooth if the photographer, whoever's picked up this copy of the video, added the lettering at the end of the footage himself? Apparently he's been "posting publicly" before, maybe he's the one that added the website at the end? And also why he's in possession of the red marker? Just throwing an idea out there.

You have a better chance for the Red Hat Society to write back than the rocket poppeters coupons everyone is mailing off Razz

Stop motion isn't necessary, I think he (she? it?) could have just written on the beginning of the film reel like in old home movies, after it was developed of course. There's just enough room for one line of print by hand. If someone wanted to write something at the beginning of the reel with stop motion, they would have just written something out on a piece of paper horizontally and taken shots of the paper.

Ah, see, told you I knew nothing about film! Didn't even think about writing on the film as an option. Then, yes. I wonder if our current camera holder could be responsible for writing on the film himself.

Name of hat--Beckley--"Remembering Gordo"

Bran, as far as the name of the hat, I recall that style being referred to as a "pill box hat." (You can google images of that name, and you'll come up with the hat that Jackie Kennedy made popular--a pink version was one of her faves.)

Seems to me, and I could be wrong, that the zip code on the opened box referred to Beckley, Virginia?

Just for kicks, I googled "beckley" and "pill box hat" as one phrase and came up with this listing, third from the top of the page under November 22, 1963 (it's a pdf file that my computer at work could open), but what's listed is this:

"landlady, testified that Oswald's room at 1026 North Beckley Avenue had curtains .... Kennedy appears at the breakfast wearing a pink suit and pill box hat. ..."

Does it mean anything? Dunno, just tossin' out there.

Oh, and NASA has a tribute page entitled "Remembering Gordo," and they're not referring to the name of the first monkey the US shot into space, but our dearly departed astronaut, Gordon Cooper.

This question never recieved a response. But i see what you are talking about. However, it may just be part of the static effect pictures get when they are resized. Though, i see an 8 and a X. Probably if you print it out from the sight itself you may get better or different results

It's called a pillbox hat and they weren't huge hats. (see pg3-5ish) I honestly don't think the hat has anything to do with red hat society or any other kind of society, it's a vintage piece, along with the monkey pin. My grandmothers and my mom had costume jewelry like that (which I always swiped as a kid because hey jewels! then I'd bury them in the flowerbed and find hidden treasure)...the hat may or may not have been or was intended to be contents of the box being shipped to/received in the Virginia zip code. The pin itself is costume jewelry, and most all women who wore hats would adorn it with hat brooches and the like. Here's a good collection to check out...

http://www.jewelsandfinery.co.uk/vintage-brooches-pins-18-c.asp

And for the record, the hat to me looks pink, not red, but even if that's internet coloring, I doubt seriously it has any relevance to a red hat society.

While there may well be a significance of monkey in this deal, it doesn't appear likely - the hat would've belonged to a woman and depending on when this image was taken in the frame of the story, is either old stuff being checked out in modern days, or it's set back in the 60s, which does have relevance given Coop, the whole astronaut angle, the objects in the image, the newspaper and the speech.

And we sent chimps into space, not those kinds of monkeys.
