Ok so it's not a couch or a bed. It's a box. And the clothing is a red hat with what appears to be a golden monkey pin. I see packing paper/tissue paper, scissors, packing tape, bubble wrap. Also to the right and above the projected image, it looks like the bottom half of a photograph.

I can't find anything on the hat. I did look up the Chinese Zodiac...year of the Monkey is 1932, 1944, 1956, 1968, 1980, 1992, 2004. Looking into other monkey related stuff.

The pin is positioned oddly on the hat, IMO....the bow would probably be worn in the back, so if it were my hat, I'd put the pin more toward the front.
Not sure if that has anything to do with it.

Awesome! You know the screen with the letter keeps flashing me back to one of those overhead - or even a slide projector, cast on the wall. And the pillbox hat is straight outta Jacki O's closet! 60s? (yeah I'm 46, wanna dance?)

Here's a close up of the bottom 1/2 of a photograph that's above the projected image. I can't make it out very well, but it kind of looks like a positive contact of photo negatives. I need to work with it more in photoshop.

DH thinks it looks like the scene was shot in a hotel room of some sort because the lamp looks like something in a hotel.

Is it just me... When you zoom into the lampshade I faintly see some pink numbers? Or I could just be seeing things..

So the question is, why is someone sending a red jacki-O (or red hat society) style hat to west virginia. If its "Sold", that looks like he's about to ship it off, ebay style.

That's a "Pillbox hat" from the 1950's and 60's, been looking around haven't found one with a Monkey pin though. Or is that an embroidery? Sorry for the two posts. Decided to finally register

Ya know what...this is the impression I'm getting...

Box of old stuff, even if this is all set in 79, the hat and stuff is still older.

So what if this is a case of someone down in a basement going through old boxes of stuff, finding this super 8 camera, or slides, etc. projecting it on the wall or whatever to see what is on the film, and that's how it is originally discovered? Or something along those lines.

I'm still a little confused as to the time frame this is supposed to be happening in. I know the stuff we're getting in 2010 is dated, but is this "world" the game is in now, or set back in time? In one of the links I posted somewhere on this about Abrams and how he did Cloverfield, he explained basically that the stuff with Slusho and Teddy, all that were all just "side" stories, other layers that connected to the main one, so if he's doing that here, then it would seem to me the side stories we're getting would be set during the time of the movie.

Granted it could all be here and now in the movie and the trailer just a flashback. But with the STIES site machine being so pre-internet, and now the stuff in this image, and the trailer showing 1979 and older truck, the papers, etc. it just makes me wonder if we should flashback and look for clues in more dated manners as opposed to looking for blogs and myspace profiles.
