I agree the hat is prob not important.I didnt think the monkey was.But some say monkeys appear in other j.j. args.I didnt follow those. But if the monkeys didnt mean anything then perhaps its just a wink and nod type thing as well. But you guys are the fans of those so i cant say.But for me the hat and monkey means nothing. But still think there must be clues to find in this.

IMOHO, I think the clue would be the zip code...IF the stuff in the background is relevant...otherwise, I think the actual intended clue is the commentary.

Seems to me like more of a conversation broken into pieces. Only 2 so far so no way to know for sure.

ETA

Haven't found the same pin, but here are a few from that period...just random costume jewelry. Would we feel the same if it was a heart pin? ;-p

Though they're pretty cool and bring back a rush of memories!

Projecter vs film

I've had a bit of experience with overhead projectors (OHPs) and that leads me to believe that the projected image did not come from one of them and is probably film.

The 'screen' on a OHP is about 30cmx30cm (from memory) there are two and a half letters able to fit on the screen at a time, with 21 letters in scariestthingieversaw that would mean the original writing was about 2.5m long.

I don't see any reason someone would have scariestthingieversaw in writing over 2 meters long, or what it would mean to the person he sent the photo too. That makes me believe the image on the wall is film rather than a OHP.

A quick thought, maybe the expcnv sound file could be whatever is "re-activating". It could be some sort of divice maybe used by or against the creature. It could be a UFO or a weapon if the creature is some sort of alien.

No, the monkeys never meant anything in the other ARG's. Neither did anything else to tell the truth. The goofy thing is that with JJ's other ARG's they never lead to any solid clues to the films. No big oohs or aahs or answers to the big questions. The ARG's are more of a backdrop to the story in the film where only the people who played could make the connection while watching the film. They do a good job, in fact they even had fake commercials during LOST that only the ARG folks would understand. Very cool and very in depth but no answers to what we will actually see on screen. If they gave us the answers in the game then it would ruin the movie experience. They are fun and leave you wanting more. Ultimately it's about generating hype for the film and hoping we will spread the word.....Free advertising! JJ is a pretty smart guy.

This question never recieved a response. But i see what you are talking about. However, it may just be part of the static effect pictures get when they are resized. Though, i see an 8 and a X. Probably if you print it out from the sight itself you may get better or different results

Print to file is your friend.
Use Print Preview on Windows, or choose to print to PDF on Mac OS X. No idea how to do it on the various distros of Linux.

Has anyone else been having problems with the STIES site today? If I open it in Firefox on my pc and try to print the document, it crashes Firefox, and in IE the page loads but with an error message at the bottom of the window. On my mac it loads in both Firefox and Safari, but I can not save as PDF or Preview, I click it and it does nothing. Just wondering if anyone else was having the same problems.

As per my picture of a photo on photo theory, i will drop it as i don't see the relevance to discovery and movin forward on the ARG.

However to show what me and a few others mean by a "projector"....its like the one in the link below however older. It uses a very hot light bulb inside and has no real internals but only a few mirrrors. There is also what is called a "slide projector".

PS-my typing is like in slow mo. Delayed...i type and the letter does not appear for another half second like my computer is lagging. However it is ONLY on this site. what gives????

I just saved the printed file as PDF myself, no problems.

After looking at the file, my conclusions:

The photographer is to the right of the source of projection, viewing the wall not perpendicular to it but rotated counterclockwise a bit. The projection device is slightly off in a similar manner to the clockwise.

The reflective surface - presumably meant to be a window - is recessed a fair bit from the end of the wall with the projection. You can see some of the upper frame molding running vertically at the wall's edge, just above the horizontal wood structure. That surface is 'doped' into the image, likely as a layer behind the horizontal wood structure. That wood framing may actually be a chair rail and some molding, instead of a glass wall frame. The scale, perspective, and texture filter applied (a bit crudely) to the reflection indicate it was generated and inserted into the image. This appears to be done for our benefit, although almost certainly not in an in game sense.

The projection has a shelf bracket protruding from above, and the picture we see above and to the right appears to be pinched in place by said unseen shelf.

The item on the table with the red tip does not appear to be a pen, particularly because the tip is very evenly rounded unlike a pen, and bears the same reflective type of highlight the darker body of the item is showing. This suggests that the red and black parts are of similar material. Even if it were a pen, the writing on the film is indicative of a flat edged marker, not a rounded off writing instrument. The closest thing I can compare that object to is the handle of a fondue fork. I know it sounds odd, but if you do some Google image searching for them you'll see what I mean.

Now, if Photoshop Elements is adequate maybe I can gather some more from this image. I wish my box with full Photoshop were available right now.

Saw you ask about the original file in chat Euchre and just wanted to remind everyone that i already posted it on the first page of the thread, ripped straight from the swf.

LOOOOOK!!!! oh yes oh yes oh yes!

CONNECTION!!!

I am still sure we are missing a huge clue or link from the trailer and every time we get new information I go back to the trailer.

I am still particularly interested in the i 21 I 70.64 - this must be significant.

I don't know who said it but it's definitely a capital I there in the middle and not a +.

So that leads me to interstate 70 which was extended to interstate 64, these two meet at St Louis, which is the perfect location for the crash.

Coincidence or not, interstate 64 also runs directly to West Virginia.

The only thing I am not sure about is if it is a 6 or not, I just can't get a clear enough image from the trailer.

ANYWAY…..

So I started looking at Beckley, and as already noted Jon McBride came up… so I looked into him AND LOOK WHAT I FOUND!!!

He was a member of:

Phi Delta Theta

Robert Morrison, John McMillan Wilson, Robert Thompson Drake, John Wolfe Lindley, Ardivan Walker Rodgers, and Andrew Watts Rogers, who are collectively known as the The Immortal Six – maybe SIX OUT OF THIS WORLD FLAVOURS?

Among the most well-known members of the fraternity are Benjamin Harrison, the 23rd President of the United States, Baseball Hall of Fame member Lou Gehrig, actor Burt Reynolds, architect Frank Lloyd Wright, Chief Justice of the United States Frederick M. Vinson, and Neil Armstrong, the first man to walk on the moon.

1969 was an eventful year for the fraternity as Neil Armstrong, a graduate from the Purdue University chapter, became the first man to walk on the moon. During the moon landing, Armstrong carried with him a fraternity badge, which he subsequently donated to the General Headquarters of the fraternity. He also donated a small silk flag of the fraternity, which he carried with him on his Gemini flight in 1966.

Also notable this came up:

NASA's Astronaut Group 8 was the first selection in nine years of astronaut candidates since Group 7 in August 1969. Which Jon McBride was in:

Group 8

This is surely worth a point?

EDIT:

More info:

Apollo program On January 27, 1967, the date of the Apollo 1 fire, Armstrong was in Washington, D.C. with Gordon Cooper, Dick Gordon, Jim Lovell and Scott Carpenter for the signing of the United Nations Outer Space Treaty. The astronauts chatted with the assembled dignitaries until 6:45 p.m. Carpenter went to the airport, and the others returned to the Georgetown Inn, where they each found messages to phone the Manned Spacecraft Center. They learned of the deaths of Gus Grissom, Ed White and Roger Chaffee during these telephone calls. Armstrong and the group spent the rest of the night drinking scotch and discussing what had happened.

EDIT: and what about the phi links to the file names and variants used by the PDP-11?

I think it is a pen because the frame size of Super8 film is approx. 5.8mm X 4mm. Pretty small, one would need a fine tipped pen to write legibly on it. And when projected to "full size" as seen in the image the writing would appear to be done with a flat tip pen.

Monkeys in Space!

"Gordo" was a Squirrel Monkey!
(And, they look a lot like the one on the hatpin!)

As for the Hat ... It's a design by Sally Victor (Sally V.)
My grandmother had one similar to it (right down to the monkey brooch).
