Another observation that i think deserves some expounding upon: the only CL listing listed as a repost, the hat, is also the only one that reads: NO DEADBEAT BUYERS PLEASE! These seem to lead to the conclusion that someone was going to buy it but didn't go through with the payment, hence the repost.

Anybody know of any other clues that could lead to this "deadbeat buyer"? Maybe he has something to do with something? Confused

Edited for clarification and spelling.

NO DEADBEAT BUYERS PLEASE! - This could be the reason why we see the red hat now unpacked from the box that he was going to ship to Beckly, WV. Or the box was returned to Josh, idk. I would assume that he was going to ship and that is why we see the "sold" post-it on the box and then Josh had to unpack the hat to take another photo and repost on CL. I am asking myself though, wouldn't he still have the original photo?

Good point, I hadn't thought about it that way.

Could be that, but I'd never pack up an auctioned item for shipment until I'd received a check that cleared... just for that reason. Maybe Josh was a trusting seller... one time.

I don't know if this helps, but I just found it interesting:
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=deadbeat%20buyer

1. deadbeat buyer
The typical buyer on craigslist. Unlike ebay, there is no obligation to buy something on craigslist. A deadbeat buyer is a person that informs you that they want to look at or purchase your product on craigslist. They will get your address and arrange for a time to come buy or look at your item. In reality, they never show up or call you to inform you that they are no longer interested.

Something I thought about, since there is no legit contact information of the CL repost for the hat, maybe in the original post a "deadbeat buyer" contacted Josh about wanting to buy the hat, and exchanged information (address, phone number, any contact information) just to trying and possibly find where Josh was. Meaning, someone had no interest in the hat, only interest in where the person with the hat lived, or what his phone number was etc etc.....

Just something to think about.

If it is a REPOST, can we see if we can find the original post.

Repost

I had assumed it was a repost because the original placed by the gamemakers must have expired before us, the players, found it so it had to be reposted. I believe an ad only lasts 7 days before the poster must decide to either let it go or repost it. IMO

Actually, that sounded interesting... I guess "nrv" stands for New River Valley? I can't call that number cuz I don't have skype in this pc nor the authorization to install it (I'm at work Razz ). But maybe it's worth a shot.
On the other hand, it may as well be a GJ...

About the box

I had considered that the box was intended for someone in Beckley, but when we found that Josh lived in Beckley, Va., I thought why ship something to the same town Josh already lived in?

I mean, it's not like Beckley is L.A. (with a gazillion people), 2000 census shows only population of only 17,254. Why not just call up the buyer and arrange a meet?

I guess I had assumed that someone who had had possession of possibly the hat and footage had shipped a box containing such to the Minker family. Josh then may have been going through his mother's items and found the box, opened it, and checked out the contents, and then decided to sell the hat (and other items in the estate ? sale).

He keeps the box to ship items in and in the STIES photo we see tape, scissors, and a sheet of paper that the scissors is sitting upon. He could have decided to use the paper to tape over the address on the box, then writing a buyer's address on it. He could then pack, tape up the box, and ship.

But why do this if he lives in the same town?

Another angle I've considered is what if Josh doesn't live in Beckley? His mother did, and after her death he took some time off to tie up matters, attends the funeral, and goes through his mom's things and locates items to sell, perhaps staying at his mom's house while doing so?

Is there any proof that Josh LIVES in Beckley? The box and the craigslist post really only give creedence to the items being from Beckley, or have I missed something? (I know, that's a dumb question! I missing a lot, lol!)

Two things...

First, from a game design perspective, the ZIP code on the box with 'sold' on it is like a finger pointing to the CL listing. Isn't that basically how the CL posting ended up being found?

Second, we used the hat to connect the pic on STIES to the CL post, and the CL post to find Josh. What we haven't exactly done is establish that the pic on STIES is actually created by Josh. It's possible that the pic on STIES is by whomever got the hat FROM Josh. We don't really have the whole dialog of STIES worked out after all. The 'sale' from CL may have been the cover to establish contact and communicate the shipping of the 8mm film, inside the hat.

Did a search on the phone number, come out at radford which isnt that far from Beckley, but it doesn't lead to anything so i say definite [OOG]

But anyway I´m sorry for derailing this thread a bit.
