Got really bored so decided to rewatch the Cloverfield Blu-Ray in Special Investigations Mode. One line caught my attention, although I'm sure it's not connected.

I don't think that proves that he is the real josh minker... what was your point?

Also FYI the josh minker facebook profile image is now the internet meme troll face... so either he got hacked or he's telling you straight up that he's a fake.

Josh's dad was said to be on the run by Mysterio, and eventually himself. As Rockyette sited in the eval, changing the name is a good way to hide, and Minker, Sr. apparently had every reason to stay under the radar, IMHO.

But Mysterioso sent Josh a pic of his dad and it was that guy,,,

I would assume that after the incident at Area 51, Minker Sr left the military and assumed another name as Professor ......... to have a career in the private sector as a biology teacher.. which is where we see him in the film...
Perhaps the movie will explain where he fled to after his truck hits the train that caused him to be in hiding all these years... altho I suspect that if he stole a vitas relic (is this what the cubes are called?) from the train wreck this would explain why he has been hiding from the bad guys who must know he has one and want it ..
