Glad I was at least able to make sense to someone else, hooray!

And Lindsay Lohan was just sentenced to 90 days in the slammer. (There must be some tie-in there, or is it GJ? lol)

Hadn't noticed that, had to prove it for myself... How bizarre!

Might want to go back and strike your comment

It may confuse some of the new folk. Euchre has been busy cleaning up after them.

and this is the first ARG i've been able to get in on from the beginning, so i'm just curious as to how they are usually paced early on. seems like we haven't had any new information for a while now.

Keep in mind that the film won't be released for another year or so. If the game started off fast right out of the gate, it would have to include massive amounts of material just to fill in the time, which is impractical. Also, a game that moves TOO fast would actually discourage players from joining since they could never keep up.

Patience. Expect hot spots (perhaps around Comic-Con), and enjoy some lulls to ponder the game when it's not racing ahead.

I don't know if there's a typical ARG pace, since the rollout would really depend on the game itself. But I don't think the current speed of this one is unusual given it's distant release date.

You should have been around for TREK, which started with great fanfare then ground to a screeching halt when the film got pushed back six months!

Who is Fred?

Multipsych;

In your reply to my questions, you quoted the question I asked and posed two questions of your own:

Who is Fred and what part (if any) does he play?
Who is Fred?? Is he a Coelacanth ??

You're kidding, right?

For those just catching up, one of the reasons I felt the Facebook page was GJ was at the time I saw it, there was a "friend" very obvious by his absence.

In Josh's hooklineandminker blog, or for that matter--it's the only place where we have a clue as to who one of Josh's (legitimate) friends really are.

And that is who Fred is. See the Coelacanth Journal on HLM.

Can't prove anything, but I'd be wary of the direct comparison of letter colors, etc. given how vastly different the two 'delivery methods' are for the leader images. Note the crack and dirt on the projector lens which aren't evident on the film leader in the photo, and so on.

Just saying: lots of mitigating circumstances separating the two images for exact one-to-one comparison, even if the letter appears to be an exact match.

Okay, if anyone else missed it, Fred is mentioned on May 9th of the Coelacanth journal:

Was just contacted by Fred's (my friend) brother. A fisherman in Boston claims he can find a Coelacanth for me in under two weeks.

Found the rare fish!!!

Guys, I was just walking through the HLM site going backwards through the journal entries and when I got back to the very 1st one in February there was a pic of a coelecanth there and clicking on it took me here:

http://www.islandenvironmentblog.org/Coelacanth1.jpg

I'm not sure how I got the Coelecanth on that page, going to try various things...

Edit: oh fer cripes, I think that was always there. It links to a real site, lol.

I guessed you didn't mean to double post that as its own thread, so I deleted it.

Best form is not to verbatim double post like that. If you decide a post should've been a stand alone topic, I can always split it off for you. You can make reference to something in a thread, and using a different (and usually more detailed) post create a new thread.

Who is Fred?

Josh's friend Fred is found in his May 9th and June 7th blog entries.

Got it, thanks. Wouldn't have normally but after posting I was overexcited and thought I should re-post it where people would see it right away.

So I'm also going to follow the corollary to what you've said...don't get all excited and post stuff until you've looked at it at least long enough to figure out you've actually got something. Laughing

Rare fish photo

The photo Senjut referenced is located (and does seem new--I don't recall it before, so maybe our boy is back from the holiday and we'll get more):

Seacology Island Environment Blog
What Do Elvis and Lazarus Have in Common?
By Susan Racanelli on April 24, 2008 9:00 AM

While seeking info, I came across a new phrase that piqued my interest. I frequently research the taxonomy of animals for grant writing, which translates to discovering animals that are endangered, threatened or vulnerable. Which sometimes further translates into me being pretty forlorn about the state of the earth's environment. However, in this quest for the flora and fauna of "The Red Island," I fell upon Lazarus taxon, a term used often in paleontology, the study of dead organisms, and neontology, the study of living organisms. The term comes from the New Testament story of Lazarus being raised from the dead by Jesus, where a species once considered extinct reappears. This possibility gave me a resurgence of hope, especially when I discovered a species on Madagascar that reappeared after once considered extinct.

(The text adjacent to the photo of the coelacanth says the following)

I guess the most famous Lazarus taxon is the Coelacanth. This guy was missing in action for 80 million years before he resurfaced in 1938! When he turned up again, he contained the exact DNA of fossil records. As a counterpoint, an Elvis taxon is a species thought to be extinct, rediscovered, then found to be missing common DNA with the original organism. It's really a new species. I think one day they'll discover the Loch Ness monster and say it's a Lazarus taxon, which it might be. Or, it might just be an Elvis taxon impersonator.

(Don't see how this is in IG--perhaps just giving credit to where the photo was found as was done on the rare fish slider.)

Thought.....

Noticed it's July 6... thought the moon phase thing was supposed to signal a clue? Confused Anyways, what if this whole Celocanth thing is telling us that things thought to be extinct really aren't. So this whole movie could turn out to be a prequel to Jurassic Park! HEHEHEHEHEHE I'm goin nutz. Bang Head

Time at HLM web site

I just posted a comment at HLM for the first time, and of course it says it's awaiting moderation.

But when posting it, I looked at the time it recorded for my comment, and it's 7 hours off from my local time (PDT).

So the site is in GMT, which is kind of interesting, because I definitely haven't tried going to the site during the times on the calendar in GMT.

Has anyone else? Those end up being awkward times for me to give it a try. The next time would be 1:45 am to me (about 5 1/2 hours from now), and the time after that will be 2:01 pm tomorrow (and I'll be at work).

It could also be that GMT is often standard for default web time settings. Even customizing our profiles here, we get the option to offset the time codes to our local time to make forum use easier.

If a website is using GMT, it may well have never received different instructions for the host server default. Anyone wanting to 'hide' their actual location might well leave their time set to GMT just to avoid giving away clues.

Or perhaps to stay as generic as possible for ARG purposes, since players can be anywhere on the globe. Almost everyone knows how many hours off their local region is from GMT... but few would care to do the math to decipher PDT difference if it were set so specifically, etc.
