not fish

just an idea but some of the "fish" in his fish slider arent even fish, ccould be important maybe, the ones that arent fish are

bobbit worm
portugese man o war
crown of thorns starfish

not sure what could be important about these but im reading through the wiki pages now to see if anything stands out

edit: nothing of interest to us in any of the wiki pages, but OT i didnt know that the man o war was actually four different organisms living as a colony and couldnt survive without each other, v.interesting

Hey, I'm following the news on Super 8 for quite some time now, and I registered because I think i might have something to add here. I was looking on Josh's website and in one of his blogs he mentiones The Boston Fisherman. That name was quite.. 'catching' so I searched the interwebz and found a crappy looking website, and i'm the first visitor. Could there be a relation?

http://bostonfisherman.com/

I also found hook line and minker on this site: hook line and minker

there is also a reference to shooting the moon

OOG but funny. Laughing

Source Code and "Robot"
Josh, Natalie and Collin sites found (but lost again) ...

As expected, nothing ARGish. However, it does appear to my eyes that dates may have been budged a bit.
****truncated post****
Someone with a little more knowledge of the subject may want to double check for us, but if the dates have been fabricated, it would seem to be another good indication that this site is IG.

Has anyone thought to contact the Developer of the site?

... Also, why is the word "Robot" in both the source code and the "Page Info?"

Dates fudged or not ... I find the site to be a bit more interesting.
A storm has gone thru (and I had some computer/Internet issues), but somewhere on the Kimili site, I came across Natalie and Collin!
(I will have to look again when I return from work).

Maybe the "Little Darlings" stuff was to throw us off?

The phone message said to contact Josh re the Minker Mem. Fund and finding Evelyn's fav charities, so that's what I did. I'll keep everyone posted if I get a meaningful response.

First of all I would like to say hello. Very Happy I have been a Abrams fan for a while now and I love his viral marketing campaigns. I rediscovered this website recently and felt like I should offer up my findings.

When I saw the two newspaper pages the picture of the flowers stood out as conflicting with the style of the period (it is also the only full actual photograph in the paper) . I immediately cropped the image and tweaked the levels in photoshop. That gave me this:

I then began to look for a way see if this image had been used anywhere else on the net. Eventually I found the site www.tineye.com/
This site enabled my to search for all other instances of the photo. To my surprise it produced a match!

Here is the original photo:

The initial website link was to:

http://www.textually.org/textually/archives/2009/10/024826.htm

The article on that site directs you to another source for the production of the photo:

http://nazret.com/blog/index.php?m=20090325

The article on that site directs you to a Reuters article.

This trail seems quite odd (probably not the key that opens the entire story up Locky! ), but I wanted to throw it out to everyone as I know that the images used in the viral campaign are seldom arbitrary. On the other hand, the marketing team might have simply stolen the image and cropped the woman out of it thinking that no one would care. Let me know what you guys (and gals Wink ) think about this!

[Edit]Merged and admired - MikeyJ

Very nice! Maybe OOG, but I'm glad you're in our side of the Force lol.

Please can this be done for the picture from the sale adds? or the picture in background of HLM.com?

Interesting. Josh Minker Blog looks like Glowingmonkeys (for Fringe ARG), and since there is nothing mentioned about Voltrons, Rads, Supers and train collisions I carefully suppose, it may be IG.

If you need help with Japanese, feel free to ask me Smile
I'm waiting for new job, since Kishin for Cloverfield was completely translated, hehe.

P.S. OFFTOPIC - I had today a dream about JJ Abrams, Cloverfield and Japan connections. I think, I'm JJunkie now, lol.

@slinkydge
I tineyed all the pics of blog and couldn't find anything elsewhere. This is usually good sign for beeing IG, since PMs are always trying to generate own contents.

Btw, J. Minker will help us in the case we'll find a significant fish species. Since he writes:

Quote:
Looking for or have questions about a particular species?
Contact me at hlm1963SPLATyahoo.com
Who knows, I may even be able to answer them!

This sounds like in those Adventure games, like the "key person", who is still waiting for the right question to answer it.

We can't read it, he's got his comments set to be moderated first.

Thanks, then I guess I wasn't the first.

Edit: Never mind! Lol

Coelacanth
"Have you seen the Coelacanth?"

Well, most probably this is just frustation talking, but is it just me or the journal title (or at least the link at the home page), "Have you seen the Coelacanth?", is... well, cryptic in a way. Sounds almost like an invitation to find the fish! Been googling it for some time now, and all results sound OOG. As a curiosity, even found a poem at dinofish.com with instructions for search wich matched the keywords "compass" and "coelacanth" (link here: http://www.dinofish.com/poem.htm).
As I said, this all seems OOG, but can't shake off the idea that the coelacanth may be a key... Are we supposed to look for anything related to it? Any thoughts on this? If so, can anyone dismiss my post as unrelated to anything so that I can stop looking for coelacanths everywhere?... Razz

It is only to acknowledge that they have used a flash embed method from Micheal Bester. I checked yesterday and this guy is clearly not part of this ARG.

I just thought, maybe the person on CL looking for that art related fish statue and mimilli.com are connected, since the site does feature art work on it. Just an idea.

I like this Link - and that it talks of a Compass and a Searh - Could have Value, We May Feel Josh is not looking for a true Coelacanth, But he Baught a Nice Compass and is wanting to search. This is a Real Poem not just created by a user so it may be a Clue... Still saying Who Knows.

Yes, this caught my eye too when the page was first found, as I always check the source code for ARG pages in case there are hidden comments as clues. THE DARK KNIGHT ARG did this quite a bit.

I looked up the "robot" code and it turns out to be nothing important to the game: simply a command telling search engines "index, follow"... meaning that search engine bots should follow links on the page. "nofollow" would instruct them not to follow links.

News to me, but a fun coincidence with Bad Robot in the mix!

I, for one, certainly hope the fish idea is just a character detail for the ARG. My gut, however, keeps bugging me that those fish pics on the minker site are a hint at the type of look the "alien" will have. A fishy creech for Cloverfield was cool, but I sure hope this isn't the case where the "alien" of Super 8 will be concerned.

random questions

Ok, after a careful re-reading of HLAM, I have some questions regarding some of the infos provided there.

Just like the hat was a lead for identifying another IG sites here are some possible leads:

#1
Fred, Josh's message board friend (Josh is registered to some message boards, but I don't have the time to read thoroughly)

#2
I found strange that the women he contacted at an aquarium signed her reply with : Shelly XXXXXXXX (yes 8 x's). Not a common way to end a message with a complete stranger. Also, her second reply, did not include the "xxxxxxx".

#3
Josh current occupation. He says he is getting allergic reaction to paper products. What kind of product: office paper, paper contact in a factory, books, ...?

Also, Josh Minker writes with a somewhat childish tone for a grown men.
