Hate to sound REALLY old here, but has someone tried using a Hollerith coding on it - I mean looking at the animation it reminds me of the old Altair 8086 paper tape! ala http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Punched_card

Just a thought...

Did anyone happen to notice there is blacklight markings on both sides of the cards? Hold the pictureside up to a blacklight.

My astro gunner looks like a barcode.

That's probably from the post office. I occasionally get that myself on some post cards and letters. But kinda worth checking into.

Hey guys, I'd give you a heads up on what the boys over at Tron-Sector found: http://www.tron-sector.com/forums/default.aspx?do=top&id=382999&pg=2

it appears a barcode is on the front of the postcard
We already KNOW this! It's just USPS bar codes and nothing more! Mad

Since noone else seemed to bite at my earlier suggestions, I tried IBM System 3 and Base 64 and didn't get anything that made sense in my first couple of attempts.
I will say that there is the possibility that I am wrong but I don't believe that these are "pixels" that are going to spell anything out no matter how they are arranged. I do believe that it represents some kind of 6 bit code.
Maybe it's a custom code and we will be given a decoder at Comic-Con?

OK, I lkinda went nuts last night and these are my thoights

It'd be a lot easier to elimiinate letters if we knew the font itself but theres still enough to rule out alot of characters with what we have. I based my combined grid off George's overlay and alot of messing around in PS.

Letter | Possibles
------+--------------------------------
01 | C E G O
02 | H M N O P R U W
03 | C E G J O S U
04 | D I
05 | H M N O R W
06 | G S
07 | A G
08 | H M N O R U W
09 | E G
10 | E S
11 | B C D E G L O S U
12 | B C D O
13 | T
14 | A O
15 | P R

abd that's not including numbers... and I left Q out of the equation since there arent any U's in the right places.
I like what you're trying to do here... finding all possible fits. But not sure you've been totally thorough. For instance, position 7) A G could also be a B. Wish I had more time to go through this thing today... ~sigh~ If you (or someone else) gets a chance, you might wanna try running through it again. If not, I'll do it when I get some free time.

@mattw3: did you tried all four postcard patterns on their own or the composited thing mentioned in the last post.

I just want to remember that some "dots" are overlapping. I dont think that this patterns are forming any letters..

Thinking way to hard...

Been Following this thread. I think the member who said about this discussion going from What do the cards mean to vintage movie equip. had it right. Too much, way too much... Listen, you have consider everything. Think about the rumors of the Flynn's Arcades opening. Several of them, which is the the only way I can see them justifying any of this. Think about it? Any of you ever pay a dime for any of this? I haven't, just signed up cause I think its cool as f@@@! Its read with a blacklight, thats it. No supra-spectra-oscillating-multi-level-needling-drumo-scopes. Just a black light. I feel really strong about this one. I have been anxiously awaiting the flynn's arcade in philly. I'm in harrisburg pa. Its just not practical for me to go to the real flynn's arcade. Think about it, Now playing at your local arcade. Yes it is a clue. Be patient and wait for the announcement. The barcode is your ticket, they use a blacklght thing to scan it or something when you go to an event. Maybe not Flynn's arcade. Could be something to do with with the upcoming movie. I missed out on the pit cell in philly. Im not missing this one. Yes, the random guy on the internet could be wrong. But think about it, just not so hard this time...

p.s. thanks for allowing guest posting, just cant join every single one

I think that's an example of you thinking to hard about this. This is an Alternate Reality Game. In the games reality ENCOM released at least 13 arcade games in the 80's. These are supposed to be promotional cards from that reality, not ours. The phrase "Now playing at your local arcade." doesn't mean these are actual games.

I got an "Astro Gunner" postcard in the mail today. This obviously means the "Flynn Lives" people have my address. But I never got an employee badge, despite "earning" one. What's up with that?

Yes, from that reality. I understand that. But think about the last countdown. They were not real events that happened in the past. No, it said go and you tried to get there first. They were real events that happened. I just think they are tickets(or something along those lines) for some kind of event along the lines of the Pit Cell. Maybe something to do with a sneek preview of the upcoming movie. Hard to say, hard to speculate. Just my thoughts. I even signed up. I try not to be a leech.

I read through this thread, hopefully I'm not repeating anything with my first post here.

Two thoughts I had:

1. Do the dots have anything to do with the game descriptions on the back of each card? Highlighting or crossing out letters on each game's description.

2. The "letters" most are trying to figure out. There are 15. There are 15 sectors in Space Paranoids Online. Could the starting positions of enemies and charging stations at the start of each sector be incorporated somehow?

Unfortunately, I don't have the ability to fire up SP atm. I'll mess with it later when I get some time.

Anyway, great work out there so far!

Nothing in Nor Cal Yet
No Flynn's Postcards here in the 510 yet.

I happened to pop in today to see if you Gurus of Game had anything new on the Flynn Lives front, and low and behold, there is new stuff!!

Nothing here though. Crying or Very sad I haven't gotten any postcards, and as far as I know, my friends who were at the "Press Conference" haven't either. I wonder if they are mailing out in Joining Order, or by region? I will keep an eye on my mailbox and let you know if anything shows.
