Secret Compartment

Can someone please tell me whether there is an actual method behind getting the secret compartment open, or is it literally just jiggling the puzzle until thing magically align and the secret compartment decides to open? I've read the instruction book and been to the site and read the forums and nothing is telling me if there is actually a method to it.

I know this is a long shot since no one has posted in this thread in like a year, but can anyone possibly give me the solution of the equation in the copernisis puzzle?
