Michelangelo's Puzzle
An interesting blog I've stumbled across

Came across this really interesting blog whilst perusing my blogspot haunts.

It's not a game, per se, which is why I've not posted it to the News and Rumours section. But it's an interesting story, the guy isn't a half bad writer and his quest to decipher Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel frescos is very interesting. I figured some of us ARGers might be interested in helping him out and musing over some of the ideas.

The Mystery - For nearly 500 years, the Sistine Chapel ceiling has refused to give up it's hidden meaning. In fact, most art historians believe it has no greater meaning at all: that it's simply a collection of Old Testament stories that are painted in a manner to inspire awe. But what if Michelangelo left a clue on the ceiling that points to a secret message, a clue that is so obvious none of the 5 million visitors a year can see it, and a message so personal he never wanted it revealed while he was still alive.

The Story - Michelangelo's Puzzle tells the dramatic story of a young boy's dream to become a great fresco painter, and the fear he has to overcome from his father's beatings for wanting to pursue that dream. Three times Michelangelo runs away from his dream: the first when he's a 14 year old apprentice painter for Domenico Ghirlandaio, then again after he challenges Leonardo da Vinci to a battle of frescoes in the Great Hall of Florence, and the last time after he's offered the Sistine Chapel ceiling and responds by jumping on the back of a horse for a 170 mile race to escape Rome while being chased by five of the pope's soldiers. Only when Michelangelo can run no more does he finally realize his dream: by painting his first ever fresco on the Sistine Chapel ceiling; an accomplishment so important he marks the occasion by leaving a secret message on the ceiling, a message that reveals the ceiling's meaning.

The Puzzle - Michelangelo's Puzzle will be told in 90 weekly pieces that when put together will reveal the meaning of the Sistine Chapel Ceiling on November 1, 2012, the 5ooth anniversary of the ceiling's dedication. If you are new to the story, you may want to go back and read from the beginning: you'll only be able to solve the puzzle on the ceiling if you have all of the pieces.
