interesting emails from Agent Shadow today.
Seems there may be a mole within the Philatelic Society cooperating with the numismatics. Also... it appears that a famous email joke dating back to the early 2000s may be connected to the Numismatic Society.

Sounds an awful lot like the time travel device in Napoleon Dynamite.

It sounds to me like the ENS has other plans afoot... judging by other documents floating around their site.

Recently applied to the Elsewhere Numismatic Society.

I decided to look at the fine print and decided it would be something fun to try. The mangling has begun already. I have been referred to in my application e-mail as Doctor Parkes. Which is kind of fun.

Letter from president H. Walter Breen

That's a pretty sick joke on the part of the PMs. Walter H. Breen was a distinguished numismatist who was convicted of pedophilia and died in prison.

Anyone else just get a message from H. W. Breen about March 7?

Cross-post from Facebook:

Elsewhere Philatelic Society members (and friends of the Society): a weird message was intercepted from the Elsewhere Numismatic Society. Looks like something is going down on March 7.

After Action Report: On March 7, 2015, at the behest of agents unknown but purporting to work for H. Breen, I, along with a handful of other agents, attempted to subvert the Chinese New Year Scavenger Hunt in San Francisco, CA.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
There was double-agent madness, a classic Elsewhere radio broadcast - generally, fun was had by all. It turns out that Breen may be over extending himself. That's all I'll post in this public of a forum, but if you'd like to know more, please ask.

If I may drop the fourth wall for a moment (I'm getting older, I'm allowed to do that kind of thing): this event made me incredibly happy. Happier than I can even really express. First, it made me feel, for a day, that my beloved San Francisco still has "it". Whatever "it" is, the people that are behind Elsewhere are definitely "it". And I've felt a lack of "it" lately from SF, but this was "it" all over again. On the most basic level, this was a totally fun scavenger hunt, complete with little prizes, a pirate radio broadcast, a chinese fortune cookie factory, the works. Second, it was an act of mild subversion against the very mainstream Chinese New Year Scavenger Hunt (not that there's anything wrong with the CNYSH: it's great. But mild subversion of great things can be even greater). Third, it was an awesome piece of performance theater; there were public agents, double agents - the works. A man in a white tie and a black suit, a guy in a mask, political posters on behalf of the ENS.

As I get older, though, I begin to recognize the *true* genius of Elsewhere. Which is this: when I participate in Elsewhere, and when I let myself really get immersed in it, I learn things. I see things in a new light. I'd walked past Hong Ah alley 100 times, but today I learned the story of the Golden Star Radio company and the Chinese News Hour - real events, by the way, not an Elsewhere fiction - and a piece of history about the great city that I can honestly say I would never have learned otherwise.

Who are Elsewhere? Who knows. It doesn't matter. But whoever they are, wherever they are, we owe them all a debt of gratitude - for what they've done in the past, for what they did March 7th, and for the breathless anticipation I feel for whatever they may do next.
