I got the mail from the detective too.

Here's what I wrote back.

Quote:
Detective Giddings,

I have heard of Richard Dzubinski from a few friends although I know very little about his current situation. I prefer not to get caught up in internet trends or fads. However, I will certainly pass on the word that you are looking for him and if I find anything I will mail you.

Just out of curiosity, who put you up to the case? I suppose if I am going to be "grilling" my friends for evidence, I might as well have something juicy to give them in return, no?

EDIT:

Quick reply:

Quote:
I am not at liberty to disclose that. Thank you.

I'm departing for my flight shortly (my travel agent can work wonders). I will most likely be out of communication for the next 36 hours or more, as I will be investigating on the ground.

I was going to ask why Giddings thought that I would know something or where he/she got my contact info, but decided against it.

Ha! I love that A.R.Giddings turned out to be an actual character and not just someone with a set of conspicuous initials.

I received the above mentioned email and sent a brief reply. I didn't offer any info in my response. I just asked how I could help.

My reply was short and sweet:

You'll never find him, and if you do it'll be too late!
Long live the inanimates!

Just checked my mail again and I also received the email from the detective.
Decided to have a little fun with my response.

Mr Giddings,

I have heard some of what may have happened to Richard. But honestly I barely believe it myself. I don't know if it would make any sense to you, or if you would believe it. There is more going on then what meets the eye.

Have you seen the gnomes? If so... run!

Tenshi

I wouldn't say I was on either side. I think they can all live happily ever after, darnit.

from Austin:

Quote:
Like I said, confidentiality is assured. I'm a rather good detective.

I don't believe you're crazy (or at least not yet). What information do you have?

and then I wrote:

Quote:
Well... okay, Detective. Apparently, Richard is in a warehouse, one of EnviroCorps' warehouses, I think he said in New Jersey. You know he makes lawn ornaments, right? Well, these uhm... garden gnomes trapped him in there. He said he caught one. The *gnomes* sealed him in. Like I said before, crazy huh?

I haven't heard from him for quite some time, and I think he must be really hungry and uhm... smelly at this point, especially with all this heat. :/

So you're a private investigator, is that right? Who uhm... hired you? Why haven't the police done anything? I'm worried about this guy, he doesn't seem as bad as the gnomes would have you think.

Jane

"as the gnomes would have you think" yeah, i'm not crazy at all.

New reply from the detective:
Quote:
Oh dear. This, unfortunately, coincides with what else I've heard. I'll see to it that he gets out of there, though. I have a flight to New Jersey to make.

Sent a text to Richard saying Giddings should be on the way.

Edit: And response!

Quote:
Wait, Giddings? Oh dear lord. He used to work EnviroCorp corporate security. There's a flashback. He's so incompetent, he let a secretary steal confidential chemical formulas from a cabinet that was facing his office.

Replied:
Quote:
Yikes. Those formulas still floating around or anything?

So do you need us to keep helping Barney Fife out? I'm up for it.

Sent Earlier to Richard:

Quote:
Hey Richard. I saw the blog. You got him! It's almost like he WANTED to get caught. Are those...sunglasses he's wearing? How odd. It seems very dark in there. Maybe you should take them off Barrel. Try putting them on.

His reply:

Quote:
He was wearing sunglasses and won't take them off. They don't even fit him.

Reply sent:
Quote:

Oh he's awake now? Has it...said anything? Oh yeah some guy named Austin Giddings emailed me. Said he's looking for you.

Looks like ladyindigo beat me to the punch.

ETA: Quick response

Quote:
Tell him I'm in the envirocorp EC3 warehouse. He's not the brightest of fellows

So I did.

leading any where?

Hey I'm new to these types of games so i would appreciate it if u guys helped me out. So, I was trollin on the unfiction website and found this page http://www.unfiction.com/dev/tutorial/ which is a page where there are tools to find ARG clues. Then i proceeded to click on the Whois bit. It led me to this page:http://www.internic.net/whois.html. I then typed in: ifilr.org and searched under domain. Finally i arrived at this page: http://reports.internic.net/cgi/whois?whois_nic=ifilr.org&type=domain
so is this part of the game or am I peeking behind the curtain? Confused

Hi and welcome. It's sometimes considered peeking behind the curtain when checking the whois information on a website. However, in this case the registrar opted for a private registration option (or proxy registration as it's sometimes called). So the "whois" data we see is that it was registered by proxy through New Dream Network, LLC dba DreamHost Web Hosting.

Not particularly enlightening information in this case, unfortunately. Most ARG websites will use proxy registration, though.

Coffee Exciting stuff going down. Richard is becoming sympathetic toward Barrel and got him on tape in his latest Warehouse Blog entries. His blog entry explains why Richard is faring a bit easier now and in fact seems to be coping better than Barrel who "wants to get out, too".

I guess it's time to dust off my ARG hat and get back in the game Very Happy

I received the email from Giddings, and will reply as soon as Gmail stops being annoying. I also put my name in for Choamsky's vacation, but considering I'm quite a long way away (Australia Very Happy) I'm not sure if it'll be accepted.

I got a text from Rich this morning (6:53 AM CDT).

Quote:
Sorry for taking so long to reply. Barrel helped me find a charger. Apparently there's a whole room(!) underneath the warehouse. Empty, though. Has outlets.

Twitter updates last night.

@IFILR_Choamsky is happy with the number of people he's traveling to! Signups are closed, unless you have a good reason. (Then tell me here)

@IFILR_Gnomeatic That's right! And for those who signed up, Gnomeatic will be contacting you shortly, as soon as we get logistics worked out

Hopefully you go in on time FractalIP. Not sure about international shipping. I believe it might be player's responsibility to ship to the next person on the list.

i sent my reply to the good detective:

Quote:
Detective Giddings-
I do have information regarding the whereabouts of Mr. Richard Dzubinski, and I assure you he is safe at the moment. However, I would think a missing persons case would be a matter for the police rather than a private investigator. Plus, I have no way of verifying who you are or what the intentions of your 'client' are. Is there any way you can let me know who hired you to find Mr. Dzubinski, why they want to find him, or at the very least, why they hired YOU in particular?
