That's where I've heard it before. Probe Droid (SW-ESB) :D

Sadly the app I have has an option to AM modulate, but not demodulate. So unless you can do some kind of negative modulation by using inverse values that's no help.

It can however accept expressions and it notes "you can use Matlab to generate the filter coefficients".

Well, an AM modulator is the same thing as a demodulator. Try playing around with your modulator (especially with values around 500 Hz to 1500 Hz), and you should start to hear more voice-like sounds.

Quick modulation theory: AM modulation shifts frequencies up and down in the frequency spectrum. So if you have a normal voice (baseband) and you modulate it, you get a modulated voice whose sidebands are centered around the modulation frequency (say, 1500 Hz). You also get one centered around -1500 Hz. To demodulate, you need to run the signal through a modulator, which shifts the signal to a baseband signal as well as one centered around 3000 Hz. Then filtering at 1500 Hz, you can recover the original signal.

I might play around with the limited equipment I have hear, save some results, and post them to the group to see if anyone else hears what the voices are saying...

OK, I'm leaving for a few days, but before I did I wanted to give everyone some "ear candy".

The first audio file is taken from the beginning of the message (right before "Marcus, this message..."). The second clip is right after the Klaxon warning siren. Both of these were put through a demodulator at different frequencies.

I might be crazy, but to me there's no way these can't be voices... I'm still hearing a lot of other distortion in the voice (I probably have the wrong frequency, and there are probably a few other effects as well), but I didn't have time to go into the lab and do a proper analysis. Still, I thought everyone should hear this.

Off Topic: I know this is really picking it apart, and I'm under the opinion that we don't need to "solve" this, or even know much of its contents. I believe that the only thing we should get out of the message is only that some wickedly wierd things are going on at MetaCortechs, and possibly make the link that things are afoot at Aquapolis. But once I found this DSP/Comm Theory application, I had to run with it!

Just a note. Not that important.

The sound at the very end of the message is most definitely the sound of the agent dieing after the "Dodge this" line in the first matrix. a little distorted, but definitely there.

If that was already stated, sorry, I scanned the thread and must have missed it. I did however notice a few sentances here and there regarding the noise, and giving their ideas of what it was. Anyway,

well if it is...lets hope they only did it coz it was a cool sound or something...seems a bit strange how they'd have a recording of that noise which somehow got into a fone recording and sent out to loads of beta testers...real dum actually.

I've been following th game for about a week, though I've only posted twice on the unforums board.
On Friday night I got a call.
It wasn't an automated call.
My mother answered the phone. They asked if I was there. They asked for me specifically, by my name.
She handed the phone, giving me a curious look.
The voice on the other end sounded like it was in a crowded room. It was a woman.
She said my name (short version first, then full version).
She said they had received the fax I sent them, about the ticket. That everything was taken care of and not to worry about it. I said, "What fax?" (I hadn't sent one.) She said, the fax about the ticket. It's all taken care of. Don't worry about it. Okay I said, and hung up. I star sixty-nined the number and wrote it down on a post it note. I called it back and got the answering machine for a law office with too many names for me to write down. One of them, though, was Blair. I looked up the area code (713) in the phone book map. It's the area code for Houston, Texas.
I don't know anyone in Houston. I never faxed a law firm anything. I have no outstanding traffic tickets.
Saturday night I got on the net and came here. Yanka had posted a thread with a catchy title, so I opened it up. She described the call she got. Her thread got locked with a link here. I read most of this thread. I downloaded the sounds backwards and forwards. It could have been the crowded room sound in the background. Maybe.
So I stayed up all night last night (Sunday) so I could call the law office number Monday morning when they opened. Only to discover my mother had thrown away the post-it note it was written on.
So what does all this mean? Was this just a fluke, did it have something to do with the Metacortex game?
All I can say is that in the past 48 hours I've come a whole helluvalot closer to believing we are actually living in a simulated reality!

Omg...thanks mate, but we knew that like when it happened days ago..."cant you see the relation", you seem to be talking at us as though we are stupid, and you are superior...clearly not the case, try to think about your posts next time.

... curiouser and curiouser. Could you hear anything else in the background (you mentioned it sounded like a noisy room)... Just wondering

new file recordings

Hello everyone. Off-and-on reader, first time poster. I thought maybe I could help out by making a couple more recordings to work off of, so that distortion from one person's recording can be compared with another person's to see if it's just the recording or is actually the message. I made three recordings for you to play with, because I personally don't have the time or patience. Smile

I put them on my webspace at school, but if someone feels like hosting them, could you please go ahead and do so and let me know so I can take them down? I have no idea how Academic Computing Services would respond to a big spike in people accessing my webspace.

This is recorded from my cell phone with a little cheapo microphone held to the ear part. I changed the settings each time to make it a little different for each. I might post a one or two more, and I'll post here if I do. Oh yeah, and the same request as the other person applies: if you host, copy, etc, please keep my name in the file. Much appreciated.

Have fun, and I hope that these help!

Edit: BriEnigma is very kindly hosting the files now. The files on my school webspace have been deleted now. Thanks so much!!

Since no one decided to check this out, I did. I thought originally that the 5:39 AM statement at the beginning of the phone call was simply the time the message was recorded, and had no relation to the 9:42 PM I recieved the call. However, on further reflection, the closeness of :39 and :42 may not be coincidental. So I ask, what time did everyone else recieve their calls? Was it also 9:42 PM Eastern Standard (4:42 GMT)? If so, then the 5:39 AM was GMT-11 or Australia. Has the game referenced Australia yet?
Food for thought.
