Even with the script this is taking for ever. We've hardly put a dent in that 10,000 Bang Head

I've noticed, and to that end I've been working on optimizing the site so I can make it public. I think it's ready, takes about .1 seconds max, usually a lot less than that.

ETA:

If 5 people did it continuously, never stopping always at 5 minute intervals it would take 166 hours.

10 people = 83 hours
20 people = 41.7 hours

If 50 people did it for 2 hours a day it would take 16.7 days.

I think the moral of the story here is we need more people. I'm seriously considering creating about 5 accounts, and having 5 different browsers open, and just doing it continuously while watching tv. I wonder what the time limit on this is.

Well they aren't particularly rushed in getting it done, it seems, but it seems rather absurd.

If that number's real, it's a LOT of work to do it.

Azure: If you want, send me the script and I could probably emulate the posts and automate the whole process. Firebug FTW! Wink

I honestly can't dedicate that much time. I log in during the day and do them when I can and then in the evenings before I go to bed. I'll be lucky if I get 15 done in a day.

I think the ridiculous number is there to either 1) Let us know there is a lot of time left in this game or b) Give us an impossible task that we are destined to fail at.

Do we even know if the numbers go down as we solve them? I can't tell.

Same here. Though usually when I do it I do 3 accounts at once, so maybe 50 a day.

Or something else entirely. What if it's a red herring?

Yes, I've checked that, they definitely coincide with completion of puzzles. (I couldn't sleep and was on at 4am EST yesterday, and over the course of an hour it went down only the amount that I did.)

A funny observation I've made looking at it from a programmer's perspective:

"Don't QQ or you'll have to start over."
If you don't get it
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
QQ is slang for crying/whining.
If you enter q, followed by another q, you end up with the string you started with.

OK, I have over 25 "users" entering codes about every 5 minutes until... well... until they're done.

Non-stop.

By my calculations, that means it'll be done in about 30 hours.

It's not consistant, and it seems like the 5 minutes isn't particularly exact, but whatever. It's crawling along.

Ok the count just jumped up about 150...to 9466

And now I'm getting this as well: "Instability in 100 operations."

And more importantly:

WARNING: Interference from untrusted source. Integration failed. Solutions rejected. Has my trust been betrayed?

And there's a WA3 in usual coloring near the top, mixed in with what was there before.

ETA: Ok so the "Instability in 100 operations." means you only have so many tries to find the answer.

Yeah, I saw the WA3. It was in the original block of text that reads, "I have been alone...".
been has changed to wbeen
there is theare
and joy is j3oy

Any ideas?

Also I am thinking that the warning may be referring to people's use of multiple accounts to speed up the process of the decoding. Either that, or it may be an outside source(NPC) that is attempting to hack edna.

I'm guessing that's in response to me, 'cause it was around 9500 when I started two hours ago.

They apparently deleted all the accounts I created.

Guess they WANT this to take forever then...

In the startup, the w, the a, and the 3 are all styled with the class "outsider."

Hahaha....guess they underestimated our (ok, your) resourcefulness and ingenuity. Sad that they're actively forcing us to go through that much grunt-work, though.

If it were a simple thing that needed to be done repeatedly, I might be OK with that. Heck, I've done that before...

But these things are not particularly easy to do, and without mechanical help each one could take a considerable amount of time.

Unless there's something we're missing, this doesn't feel right. It's an absurd amount of work they're expecting.

Why am I getting visions of the Dharma Initiative Tests, where part of the test was to find the cheat for it? Smile

I don't even think I'd mind it if the 5 minute lag requirement weren't coded in -- it's still a heck of a lot of work, but something that doesn't require constant scheduling.

But I digress.

Hey guys, haven't played any Args that much recently (college/work) but I've kept track of the last few ones. Anyway I was hoping on jumping in on this one since its just starting up (hopefully).

Anyway so far I have to say great job with the script, and I feel it is a bit odd that they reverted what we have done so far with the puzzles. I tend to agree with Nighthawk, I think we're just missing something.

If they do indeed expect us to actually do 10000 of these puzzles, they will be sorely disappointed. Those dedicated to this simply won't have the time (unless we cheat) and honestly it's just plain unrealistic if they plan on dragging this out to attract people to the arg.

In the mean time I'll work on a few puzzles still and see if I can work anything out.

Btw is there any IRC for this at the moment? like a webchat.quakenet.org #darkspore channel? It might prove useful if these puzzles get harder.
