Ok, a few things about your new baby/hobby project as I see you have other machines too Smile Please don't be insulted if you already know this stuff. This info is for others who read this too.

You already mentioned side art and control panel. Don't forget the interior side art too that is missing. What is over the Bally logo on the coin door?

The biggest killer of arcade machines is DUST!!!! Clean that sucker out! I once got a machine that you litterer could scoop the dust out of. I got it for $25 because it didn't work. I cleaned out the dust, replaced 2 fuses. Nothing more and sold it working for $350.

Is the MCP faded and need replacing too?

The track wheel also has art work that is missing and looks to be currently red.

I also believe the original player buttons were clear blue that lite up just like the joystick. I see red replacement buttons on this.

If you know about restoring like I do, Don't forget to "triple thick" your back glass to prevent the painted Tron logo from cracking and UV fade.

If the monitor goes. They are getting harder and harder to come by these days so I replace them with flat screen monitors. No other choice really. Black cardboard will square it nicely with little notice if done right. Your picture will actually look brighter and better.

If the black lite is out. "Spencers" at your local mall! Just tell them the size you need.

With the internet these days, All supplies are readable for you to obtain. (with the exception of the non-regulation Encom stickers that you will have to make yourself. I think black over silver/mirror would look nice vs the red over black).

Have hours fun working on it. I wonder if you will have it finished by DEC 17th?
Above all ENJOY YOUR NEW TOY!!!

You know, if you do have it up and running by late November or early December, your local movie theater would probably LOVE to borrow that sucker for the midnight show... provided you're willing to put it on display for the night. Might even comp you some passes for it. Just saying... Wink

Heck, if you set the coin op up to work, they might even let you keep what people put in it.

Hehe thanks for the advice Greystone. I have been rebuilding cabs for some time, so I have a good handle on things. I know that this machine needs alot of work, but it plays perfectly and I got the cab for the normal cost of the boards. Most of the parts that you mentioned are readily available online. I plan to fully restore the cab and will post pics as the effort progresses. Not much chance of this ending up "in the field". Most people treat arcade games like crap. I am not too interested in having people trash this one after I fix her up.

That's awesome - I'm jealous!

I restore pinball and arcade games as a hobby too. Nothing like fixing electronics, cleaning it all up, doing the cosmetics and bringing a machine back to life. Never had the opportunity to get a Tron cabinet, I'd love to get the big standup Discs of Tron as well as a regular Tron. Here's hoping that one shows up at a local auction soon.

Keep us updated on your progress, looking forward to seeing how it goes.

I wish I knew more about how to fix up these machines. There's a TRON cabinet on E BAY for $70.00 but of course it's empty

Coaster, I too want an environmental DOT, but simply don't have room for it right now. I have a Stargate coming in on Friday and then my basement is full unless I get rid of something or remove storage space (NOT an option according to my girlfriend).

db, $70 is not a bad price for an empty cab, if it is in good shape. To give you an idea, I bought my cab for $300 (a steal IMHO) from a fellow collector here in NE who needed to free up space. I plan to put in about $200 worth of stuff (repro side art, controllers and overlays) before I am done, putting my total cost at $500 or so. That is about the going rate for TRON cabs in our area right now. Once the movie release arrives, I am sure you will see alot of "scalpers" selling their cabs to take advantage of the general public's mania. Happens all the time (like the way Moonwalker skyrocketed when MJ died).

Shocked there's a Stargate cabinet video game? Like, the Stargate that inspired such classics as SG-1, SGA and the new SGU?! I'm a big SGU fan, I get what some of the complaints are, but it's a good show. Anyway, I'd love to see pics of the Stargate machine when you get it.

Look around I know you can find what you want. I know this one does not have the back section to rest your butt, but you can build that. actually that was all bally did. You can get the art to round it out.

$70 for the cab is nice. look around and you can buy a board for a reasonable price. I recommend you find a board that has been refurbished if your not familiar with the electronics and are leary about replacing fuses and IC chips. I bet you can actually find whole wiring kits if you find the right dealer. I recommend that everyone who has a machine and works on them to get the manufactures manual. You can get reprints of them too.

Stargate was the "sequel" to the classic arcade game Defender. It added variables like more enemies, warp zones and special bonus waves. The game was created by the VidKidz team, lead by Eugen Jarvis and Larry Demar, perhaps the two greatest video game designers EVER. Their games included Joust, Robotron, Defender, Stargate, Sinistar, Smash TV and more.

Uh....this says $700, not $70.

I'm pretty sure he was just showing me an example of what they usually run at the lowest versus the empty cabinet that I found for $70

I have to keep my machines in the garage, no basements in Florida. Just sold my Star Wars upright, a Funhouse and Creature from the Black Lagoon pinballs. The Orlando Superauction is coming up again at the end of August so hopefully they'll have some interesting things available.

A total cost of $500 is really good to get that Tron back to great shape! Florida prices are very inflated for some reason compared to other areas of the country. If I found a Tron in good shape anywhere in Florida, Georgia or the Carolinas I'd be making a drive. Smile
