We really don't know. Alex certainly thinks it's important, and it does seem to have some kind of significance with the Operator; whenever Jay went there, we witnessed audovisual distortion of the footage.

Of course, on all occasions when Jay went there, Alex was around in one form or another as well; this could just be causative and Alex himself is the important factor.

Also we haven't seen what's on the other side of it yet. Could be a situation similar to the doors in Brian's old house, and walking around the tunnel to the other side won't put you in the same place and time as walking through it would.

I think it's the entrance to the Slendy-verse but only if you walk through the tunnel (and maybe only if TO wants you to be able to get there)

He made it through, and then the tape ended, with 12 minutes left on it.

I'm calling that what got recorded in those 12 minutes will be the most important piece of the puzzle.

It's entry 50, and he did not make it through. He went in about half way, then it cut to footage of him sitting outside the tunnel again, then he got up, went in, and the footage cut off. There is no footage of him actually walking all the way through the tunnel.

In the entry where Jay and Tim go to Rosswood together (64, i think) Jay says that he had been on the other side of the tunnel once before when he was chasing Tim. I think that's pretty clear confirmation that he made it to the other side of the tunnel in entry 50.
