TV:
Quote:
Terror threatens to overtake you as you witness the continuation of violence in Transition Village. After what you've just been through, it's only to be expected; one person can only take so much stress on one vacation to a ghost town.

But then you take the stone, and suddenly all is peaceful inside your mind. In addition to that, you feel, well… really, really strong.

There are voices near you. You stand up, careful not to be seen by the crowd at the circle of odd trees, and you address the person who mentioned the raincoats. He's a ghost. There is another traveler standing, petrified it seems with fear, with his back against a nearby tree.

The ghost man notices you and nods. "They're fireproof," he says. "But I only had so many. Your best bet is to stay here. There's a war on."

You say that you will fight.

Looking rather shocked, the ghost says, "It's the flowers. The ghosts and people on the side of the Governor wear flowers, while the ghosts against the Governor do not. There are some other creatures at play, too, though it's hard to say where everyone's loyalty lies."

Finally, you ask about the stone.

"Hrm," the ghost says. "I've never seen that before. Sorry."

Just then, an explosion comes from the circle of trees nearby. The ghost trembles and fidgets with his coat. "I'm no fighter," he admits. "I'll be going now. If you want to fight, then fine. It's your funeral. If you want to hide, come with me."

Haven't replied yet. Hmmm... I still think I'm gonna stay and fight with the others. And hey, it sounds like that stone might have made me.... Super Nessa! Dun dun du-duuuun! Very Happy

Returning Fire!
But it could be worse, it could be NY Reptile Fashion Week- that's a warzone!

My turn for this days installment of TV:
Quote:
While it's true that love is a battlefield, I get the sense from the ghosts attacking us there is no love for the living. In my own career as a reptile translator to the stars and karaoke reptile mogul, I've seen my fair share of war. Kim and Paris was tough for any to live through.

As the berries fall to the ground, I try to snatch up some of the strange fruit and pass some to the others huddled near the tree hallow. Seeing a traveller who knew about the berries run over to the wizard, I try to set up some berry "cover fire" as I yell, "Aim for Erdu and those who would protect Erdu! That ghost is the head of the rebel party and I bet my stylish yet sensible work heels he killed that poor girl. Keep up the fight, we should have brave reptile re-enforcements soon!"

Making sure we don't run out of berries, I keep gently but urgently shaking the trees so berries continue to come our way. I continue to pelt at ghosts who make a break for the wizard and the one helping him, trying to return fire so they can make an escape.

Finally replied! I don't remember who I'm standing with, but I don't have time to read the thread because I'm sneaking this post during a lab. I'm assuming maybe the player missed a turn?

Me reply:
Quote:
The strength I feel well up as I touch the stone is surprising. It helps harden my resolve- I'm going to fight. Aside from helping the Governor and the good citizens of this town, I've got a personal stake in this as well. And, hey- the battle somehow doesn't hold as much fear for me as it would have previously. I vaguely wonder if that's a good thing, or a bad thing.

"Fireproof?" I muse grimly. That would be a handy thing to have, given the commotion up ahead. As for my allies: the living and ghosts wearing flowers. (In the back of my mind, I recall Miss Sepsis's rose…) All non-flowered ghosts and other assorted creatures are to be treated with suspicion and/or open hostility. Alright.

I wave goodbye to the ghost who answered my questions. "Thank you for the information. Be careful, and good luck."

Wincing at the sound of the explosion, I look over at the other traveler. He looks terrified. "Hey, if you don't want to fight, go with this gentleman," I say, motioning towards the helpful ghost. "You might be able to help the inhabitants who don't want to fight. But it's up to you, of course."

Then, I slink up towards the fighting, trying to stay hidden just for the moment, until I can get my bearings and choose where to strike. Rushing into a battle unarmed is incredibly stupid, but to do so without any knowledge of the battleground…

A Crisis Averted

Quote:
You grab the pen and get ready with your weapon.

"Wooooooh, wooooooh, why don't we just all sit down and discuss our problems with each other? I can feel a lot of negative vibrations in this room!" Lairo backs up as the ghost rats advance. "Squeak! There is no need for fighting, not for you! They are using you for their own goals!"

This causes the rats to pause briefly and consider what she has said. In the confusion, you send a poisoned arrow flying. It hits its mark.

Just before the howling begins, you step out and say hello to your old friend. Yaddle looks at you in horror and then opens his mouth in a booming cry as his transparent body starts to vanish, bit by bit.

The other four ghosts back up, confused.

You tell the rats they should rethink things, and then you give Lairosiel the last of your ghost repellent, mentioning that she should take Yaddle's mace. You don't need it.

Lairosiel waits for Yaddle to disappear, and then she takes the mace. It's way too big for her hands, but if she can manage it, she'll be able to do a lot of damage.

One of the rats turns to his peers and says, "The Lady Rat Leader and her human living bodyguard are right! Eat the others!"

As the two of you stand there, you watch the rats charge toward and then devour the remaining ghosts. Their weapons lie scattered on the ground.

"Lady Rat Leader," they say, their bellies round and full. "If you serve the Governor, you should know that there are many more ghosts who oppose him. They plan to burn the church this weekend."

The Daily Grind (my update)

Quote:
I bow to Lairosiel

"Lady Rat Leader, I am in your debt"

I turn and bow to the rats

"And yours as well my tiny bretheren"

I grab the final item out of the box, a life bead, and gather the weapons dropped by the devoured ghosts

"I have a feeling we may have need of these..."

I turn to Lairosiel

"We need to get out of here and quickly, I have a feeling this is only the beginning"

I turn and look to the three doors

'Hmm, which one do we take?'

Being left handed myself, and seeing no other direct indications, I turn to Lairosiel

"I will scout ahead, could you ask your loyal friends if they know anything about a way to get out of here quickly?"

With that I turn, nock another arrow, strumming the bowstring nervously and slowly, carefully approach the left door.

I crouch, arrow taut in the bow and attempt to open the door as silently as possible.

Where's the calvary when you need it?
Erdu breathing down our necks

When we last left the Merry Met of Circular Trees, Sammy was pinned and unable to speak WolfHawk was trying to free him and Nessa was just outside of the fray.

TV tells me:
Quote:
"SAMMY, NO!" the traveler with the dictionary cries. "Alright, everybody. We gotta protect these trees. You heard the dictionary. Last line of defense and all that. I'm going to go rescue Sammy. He's too important to us."

"Yeah! I saw the dead chick!" a traveler calls to the person under the branch. "She looked an awful like this person over here." You look. She is pointing at someone coming from the forest. The "dead chick" and a companion stand up and walk into the battle zone.

Then the other traveler yells, "Hey! The Wizard needs help!!" She dashes over to the fallen traveler and pushes with all of her might to lift the branch. It's too heavy.

The recently revived traveler runs to them, though there is dangerous fire all around, and it is not safe. She and the other traveler work together and easily throw the branch off to the side.

Once he's free, Sammy heals his own wounds – and then he thanks them.

Unfortunately, it looks as though Erdu has captured one of your friends!

You shake the tree, collecting as many fruits as you can and handing them to the travelers.

Then you get to work telling the others what they should do. This is no place to waste time. They need to aim for the cause of the trouble.

Sammy, now freed, whispers something to heal his injuries, and he turns to thank his helpers.

Your traveler friends spring into action by throwing fruits at the ghosts. Some ghosts fall backward, their transparent skin apparently burning. Others seem un-phased. They carry on fighting with the ghosts who wear flowers.

Then Sammy looks at a collection of bad ghosts and says, "Freeze them."

This works for several ghosts, mostly bad. They stop moving altogether apart from their eyes, which look confused and dart wildly around in their transparent heads.

Unfortunately, Erdu is just fine. "I have your friend," he calls. "Your spell won't last long, anyway, but unfreeze my people now, and I won't damn this traveler… right away."

In the distance, you see another ghost running over. He wears a floppy flannel shirt and has what looks like a friendly face that has become very serious just for this situation. He calls out to Erdu, "I'm gonna wash your mouth out with soap!" He holds up a bottle of… something. Does that say Sticky Itchers Shower Scrub?

The new ghost comes closer. Unfrozen and uninjured ghosts continue to battle nearby as the flames climb higher. The bad ones are winning so far. There just aren't enough of the Governor's supporters here.

"I had plenty of Civil War reenactment training, and I'm ready to use every bit of it on you if you don't let these people go!" the new ghost says.

Erdu laughs and loosens his grip on Urthstripe. He lifts one hand and lets loose another explosion. It hits the new ghost in the face. He falls backward, and his transparent body lies motionless on the ground, his hand still gripping a bottle of soap.

I'm wondering what I should do this turn? Keep up with the berry pelting? Try to make a play for that soap? Or maybe do a whole Xena-yell in lizard about how we need them and like now?

Take Care,
Kendra

Oh no, Earl! I hope he's alright...

Anyway, here's my bit:
Transition Village wrote:
You ask to see the servant girl.

In the bubbling cauldron appears another servant's room, much like the one where you appeared in Transition Village.

Hiding under the sheets is a ghost girl. She sobs violently.

Then the old ghost woman from the laundry steps in! She rips the covers off of the servant girl and yells at her.

The girl cries harder. She drops down to the floor and tries to crawl away, but the ghost woman chases her around, pointing a bony finger at her and yelling.

You cannot hear what they say.

ironnikki wrote:
Appalled by the horrible treatment of the girl, and moved by her plight, I decide that I must do what I can to help her. However, before I rush off back to the servant quarters, I ask the cauldron to show me Earl's location, to see if the helpful man might be nearby. After ascertaining his location, I rush up to stop the mistreatment of the poor servant girl.

Same here, Kendra. My reply from TV sheds no additional light:
Quote:
"SAMMY, NO!" one traveler cries. "Alright, everybody. We gotta protect these trees. You heard the dictionary. Last line of defense and all that. I'm going to go rescue Sammy. He's too important to us."

Someone has to help him! Without wasting time, you rush forward and push with all of your might against the branch. It's too heavy.

Just then, another traveler joins you. This is the girl you saw in the vision! She's no longer dead! With her help, you easily throw the branch aside. In fact, it seems the traveler didn't need your help lifting that branch at all. Amazing.

Once he's free, Sammy whispers words to heal his wounds – and then he thanks you.

You hear the translator shout, "Aim for Erdu and those who would protect Erdu! That ghost is the head of the rebel party and I bet my stylish yet sensible work heels he killed that poor girl. Keep up the fight, we should have brave reptile re-enforcements soon!"

The other travelers spring into action by throwing fruits at the ghosts. Some ghosts fall backward, their transparent skin apparently burning. Others seem un-phased. They carry on fighting with the ghosts who wear flowers.

At this point you notice that the traveler with the dictionary is being held by Erdu!

As the others spring into action by throwing fruits at the ghosts, Sammy speaks aloud, "Freeze them."

I hope the Rat Queen and the Blacksmith Archer arrive soon with their rat army!

I got shrunk in the last TV by the PMs, I wonder if my character can still do it? Maybe I can shrink, run over to Urth and Edru (Rude?), grow back to size surprising Edru, grab Urth, shove Edru, and drag Urth back to us?

Taking down Erdu
More information

Also noticed that Jane put up a missed connection in Transition Times classifieds to find Ted, Erdu's brother I think.

Also in today's edition is more info about one Erdu Skard. Hmm... should we try to make a play for the soap? Seems the berries are good for some ghosts but no effect against Erdu? Also, they've got Urthstripe! What do we do?

Take Care,
Kendra

Shrinking to their level
Might be a good route

We can try to set up a coordinated attack. If you shrink down, should we make a play for the soap? Have someone keep pelting the ghosts with berries and keep shaking the trees?

Take Care,
Kendra

next turn I'm gonna have lady rat leader hit me with the mace, see if it was the weapon that transported me. Either it wasn't and nothing will happen, it was and I will go back into the cage in the well (which is still good since it's laced with ghost repellent) or it was and she can send me to the trees by focusing on where she wants to go!

I know im a day late, but ima gonna rusj over t help move the branch... no need to worry about my kitty anymore, i told hert to behave.

Quote:
You hold on tight to Mrs. Nibbles. Not now. She is not allowed to eat any lizards or snakes, as they appear to be on the good guys' side.

You look around and try to figure out what's going on.

Several other ghosts arrive at the scene, most of them wearing flowers on their clothes in one way or another, and they engage the ghosts who have surrounded you in battle. You and your friends are trapped in the middle of everthing.

Sam wonders aloud whether all of you are among the living who must die, according to the ghosts.

The traveler with the dictionary turns to Sam and says, "Sammy, you alright? Stick with me, buddy. We've been through enough together. Try not to get yourself killed."

You catch the raincoat that the translator throws you, and you put it on. Surely there's a reason for these. They're light and annoyingly rubbery, just like any cheap raincoat, but there's something more to them. You feel protected. And it's not as hot anymore.

These are fireproof raincoats.

One traveler announces to the group of travelers, screaming over the sound of burning grass and clashing weapons, that the fruits on the tree are weapons, too. She grabs some for herself.

The translator ushers all of you into a hollow in the trunk of one of the trees, and then she goes about finding more information.

First the taps the traveler with the dictionary. "Does your book tell us why they'd attack us out here with the Frenghif fruits, or whatever it is that ghost said? Do you think these fruits are valuable?"

The traveler says, "Frenghif fruits" to the dictionary again, and the tiny ghost reappears, this time cowering and looking around in fear. "What do you want! I told you what they are, now just leave me alone!" He seems terrified. Kendra explains what she wants to know, and the professor answers, "They are one of the Governor's most important lines of defense. To destroy these trees – dangerous though they are – is to gain access to the mansion." Then he vanishes again.

Kendra turns to the snake who is nearby and says, "Freeeeeeeeeeeskaaaaaaa muuuusaaaaaaa leeeeeeeeeeethhhhhh…"

The snake replies, "Yissssssssssssik friiiiiiiiiiiiilaaaaaaa huuuuuuuuuuushaaaaasssssss…"

At this point, all of you realize that Sam is not with you.

He is alone in the middle of the fighting. What happened? Why did he not come along?

Sam appears to mutter something under his breath, and then his entire body transforms – into the Great F. Rogers, Wizard of the Neighborhood, wearing a red cardigan, blue pants, and nifty shoes. He asks, "Hey - did anyone else see that dead chick, or was it just me? I mean, what was that all about?"

It's at this point that Sammy realizes he's alone. He notices the raincoat that Kendra handed him, and he puts it on.

One of the ghosts sees him. He's wearing a flower on his chest, and he's fighting with all his might against one of the meanest looking ghosts. He says, "The Wizard of the Neighborhood?"

Several ghosts stop fighting for just a moment, and they look him over. The ghosts with the flowers seem confused but glad to see him, while the rest of the ghosts appear furious.

"This isn't your war, Wizard!" one of them shouts, and suddenly there is a massive explosion next to Sammy. A branch falls and pins him underneath it. He wriggles but is unable to shout out for help; the branch is on his face. He can't speak. The war wages on.

Take Care,

We can give that a try. I'll shrink and run for Erdu.
You run for the soap.
Everyone else cover us!

How's this sound?
Quote:
Nodding to Kendra I concentrate on that shrinking feeling I got last time I was here. It works! I make a beeline for Erdu and Urth hoping Kendra is coordinating the others.

Reaching Erdu and Urth I climb onto Erdu's foot and concentrate on getting bigger again. Whoosh! Suddenly Erdu realizes I'm in his face and standing on his foot. Not giving him time to react I grab Urth's arm as I push, well, sorta through Erdu, and begin dragging Urth back to the others.

Since this is a long email, I'll just post the part that differs from Kendra's and WolfHawk's posts.

TV:
Quote:
You know what you must do.

Waving goodbye to the ghost, you look at your fellow traveler and try to persuade him to join you, as well.

As he thinks through what you have said, you move in, quickly and silently. You have no weapon but your strength and courage. Hopefully that will be enough.

One traveler lies pinned under a massive tree branch in the middle of the fray.

"SAMMY, NO!" one traveler cries. "Alright, everybody. We gotta protect these trees. You heard the dictionary. Last line of defense and all that. I'm going to go rescue Sammy. He's too important to us."

"Yeah! I saw the dead chick!" a traveler calls to the person under the branch. "She looked an awful like this person over here." You stop. She is pointing at you. You stand up and walk into the battle zone. The other traveler from the forest follows, his hand clutching a broken wine bottle.

Then the other traveler yells, "Hey! The Wizard needs help!!" She dashes over to the fallen traveler and pushes with all of her might to lift the branch. It's too heavy.

You run to them, though there is dangerous fire all around, and it is not safe. You and the other traveler work together and easily throw the branch off to the side. In fact, you know that you could have lifted it on your own.

Once he's free, the traveler heals his own wounds – and then he thanks you.

I'm thinking of throwing the stone I carry at Erdu. If I do, I'll probably lose my super-strength, but I don't have any other weapons.

Or, wait! I could continue fighting the bad ghosts. It could at least thin the crowd out, maybe, since Kendra and WolfHawk seem to have a plan to free Urthstripe. Any input on this?

EDIT: I just realized what I could do. Hopefully this will help tilt the battle in our favor. Sorry that I'm not coming to your direct aid, Urthstripe, but it looks like other travelers are on their way!

Quote:
A knot forms in my stomach as I observe that Erdu has captured one of the travelers. I glance at the ghost wearing flannel- it doesn't look good. Whatever magic or energy Erdu used, it was very powerful. I want to make sure the new ghost is alright, but with the battle raging on, I realize that it's just not the time for that.

My companions look like they're already formulating a battle plan for the evil ghost, so I turn my attention to the Wizard.

"Can you create some sort of giant diversion- like a flashbang or an illusion to startle Erdu?" I ask him quietly. I give the Wizard a reassuring grin, and dash away to one of the leafless trees.

Those fruits that the others were throwing... It seems like some of the ghosts can't stand to even touch them. Perfect. I grab as many of the fruits-slash-artillery that I can, and I squash them until my hands and wrists are completely covered in pulp and sticky juice. With this wild, exuberant strength running through me, I feel that this idea could really work.

With that, I fling myself into the battle, swinging away at any bad ghosts I can lay my hands on, frozen or not.

Wash-ington is my name
Cleaning up the village is my game

Hmm- wonder where my fellow reporter Jane is? Perhaps in light of the Times article we can get Ted to help our cause to save the Governor? Or perhaps there's more to the fire issue than we thought?

Here's my turn:
Quote:
Looking at this Erdu ghost hold Urthstripe prisoner, there's a feeling in my gut that I remember him from somewhere else even though this is my first job in Transition Village. Then it hits me, his family is one of the most reported about in the Transition Times society pages! Although ... there was a something about a great fire so many years ago, but I can't quite remember...

The screams of war bring me back to the present, as I watch the flannel-shirted ghost fall with what appears to be some nice manly soap in his hand. He must have had a reason to bring it... and if he's saved, perhaps we can market the brand to more reptile clients.

Gesturing to the others huddled by the tree hallow, especially Absynth and a man wearing a fedora I say, "Keep shaking the trees and launching berries! We need some berry cover fire!"

With that and only enough berries to make a dash into the open and back, I grind down the soles of my sensible but stylish work heels and make a mad dash to the soap.

Returning berry fire, I race over to the motionless ghost and make a play for the soap. In my best Lucy Lawless impression I call out in lizard tongue, "My lizard friends, if you love freedom and liberty- fight the tyranny that is Erdu!"

Running back to the hallow and the rest of our small army, I chuckle to myself nd think I've always wanted to expand my business to the soaps.

Hi, I'm sorry, guys, I've been totally slammed with work and I'm totally behind.

Quote:
In the same room where you first met, you return to Pat and tell him you're sorry. You're sorry about his sister. You're sorry you couldn't help her. You're sorry you ran. You're really sorry you ran.

His beautiful eyes are still red with tears, but he holds you close. "I'm sorry I yelled. You couldn't have prevented what happened. But don't run off alone. I couldn't stand to see you get hurt, too."

For a moment you wonder where his sister is. Would it be inappropriate to ask whether she will reappear as a ghost?

After a hollow, ghostly hug, Pat pulls back and says, "I have to go fight. Do me a favor, please, knowing how much you mean to me." He holds your hands. His face has lost most of its charm from before, but not all. Now he looks lost. It's as if he's saying goodbye forever.

"Find Shag's wife," he says. "Give him this." It's a faded photograph of a small child. A small ghost child. "He wants her to know that he will be fighting, too, for the sake of their boy."

You look at the photograph. The little ghost smiles back out at you, oblivious to the horrors you've just seen. Something about holding the photograph makes you feel… different.

"He was born a ghost," Pat says. "The rebels believe the Governor has made exceptions for – oh, it doesn't matter." He shakes his head. "The child is a miracle, and Shag must fight to save his son and this village. I will stand by him, even against my brother. Please find his wife. She should be hiding in the church."

Pat begins to grow more significantly transparent. You aren't sure what to say or do. "Thank you, Jane," he whispers just before he kisses your lips.

Then he is gone.

All at once, the world around you spins, and you feel yourself rising off of the floor. When you land, you find that you are outside, standing next to the motorcar.

In the distance, near the mansion, an enormous fire burns.

So uhm... I'm heading to the Church?
