Noooooo Earl! Crying or Very sad I guess the Shower Scrub wasn't enough this time...

You sort out the message, and you tell the ghost that all will be well soon. "Please help me help you guys," the ghost says. "And then help me come back to life!" He nods at you as he vanishes. Then the mist around you vanishes, as well. You are back in the servant's room.

You ask the girl about the safety outside the village and where her boyfriend is. She seems to have no recollection about what has just happened with the visiting ghost and the mist.

"My boyfriend is…" she looks down. "He's right here." A ghost face of another young man appears next to her. He doesn't make himself completely visible, but he appears to be comforting her. "He says we should stay, but I don't think it's safe here anymore!" She cries a little.

"Let's go down to the graveyard," her boyfriend says. "That's the place I go to sort everything out, and we'll be able to see the battle from there, but no one can hurt us. Then you can decide. Will you do this?"

She sniffs. "Only if the traveler comes with us," she finally answers. They both look at you. "I want someone there in case we need help!"

"Back to life...?" I mutter to myself as the mist dissipates. There's a way to bring ghosts back to life? I wonder why the other ghosts of this village have remained as they are.

Returning to the situation at hand, I introduce myself to the servant girl's boyfriend. "I'd be happy to escort you two to the graveyard, although I have no idea where it is. I'm definitely ready to get out of this house, though. By the way, I don't suppose either of you know of a way to bring a ghost back to life?"

I'm operating under the assumption that we don't have a kind of groupthink going on. In other words, I'm assuming that I'm not aware that Earl has been destroyed (*sniff*) or that the graveyard has been marked a safe zone.

Oooh... we won the war but...
Will we need to be firefighters when the floods roll back?

I'm wondering if we still have work to do- putting out the fires at the mansion and the church? Also, can we revive Earl in any way? I used the soap sure, but perhaps we have an errant shirt or maybe a bottle of the scrub still left?

Here's what I got from TV today:
Quote:
You rush over to the ghost's sword, but someone else appears as if out of nowhere – one of your fellow travelers! She picks up the sword, and the two of you hand it over to the ghost. The other traveler asks whether a little fruit juice smeared across the blade will be a problem, Asking whether the juice from the fruits will be a danger to her, and she grins. "Not a problem at all." She takes the sword and nods at both of you in thanks.

The Great Wizard of the Neighborhood goes into a meditative state and says, "There is unrest in the forest, there is trouble in the trees - for the ghosts are much too flighty, and the fruits destroy their knees." Just then, the trees stand up and begin fighting the rebel ghosts, clearing a path for the flannel-wearing ghost.

Following bravely behind him, one of your traveler companions also throws fruits at any nearby ghosts.

Then the Great Wizard waves his hand, and a large, ghostly boulder falls on top of Erdu. The Wizard smiles and says, "Beep, beep." Erdu, dazed, tosses the boulder off of him.

The traveler jumps out to distract Erdu just as the ghost with the pistol charges forward and cries, "For the Village!" The ghost unloads several times into Erdu's transparent body.

The bullets, of course, are not normal bullets, and they rip through Erdu's transparent form, tearing him apart in a ghastly way. He staggers backward, his flesh opened, his eyes wide. Everyone stops fighting and turns to watch.

A ghost in a tuxedo – wearing a flower – cries out, "Erdu! My brother!" but he does not run forward to help.

For several seconds, Erdu stumbles around in a circle, looking at each one of you. Then, just before he falls over, he opens his mouth and releases an enormous belch of fire. Out of his throat soars a massive dragon that blasts more fire onto the ground below. Erdu, barely more than a whisper at this point, says, "Capture the travelers. Let the ghost with the pistol decide whether he will truly save the living." Then Erdu is gone forever. The dragon instantly roasts the ghost in the tuxedo, and he vanishes, as well.

The trees return to their original positions and stop moving.

With the dragon backing them, the remaining rebel ghosts charge toward you and your friends. One woman with long, blonde hair pulls your hands behind your back and holds you still, though you struggle. She twists your wrist so that any fruits you're holding fall to the ground. You are helpless, and so is everyone else, it seems. The ghost with the white hair has fallen to her knees. Her hair is almost completely burned off of her head.

The rebels turn to the ghost in the flannel, who is standing, dumbstruck, in the middle of the scene. The ghost gripping one of your companions shouts, "Earl DeRosa! It is your choice now! If you let us destroy these travelers, then you will be our next Governor! If you want to save them, then you must let us destroy you. We will annihilate your soul and never return to this village again."

Earl's mouth drops. He looks at each one of you.

There are several seconds of silence before he drops his head and says, "Guys, tell Randy to take good care of Sticky Itchers. I guess I won't be comin' back this time." He wipes the back of his sleeve across his face. "Take me with you, rebel ghosts. These people don't deserve to suffer any more."

He closes his eyes and waits.

Then, with two massive flaps of its wings, the dragon opens its jaws and pours fire down upon Earl's head. Within seconds, he is gone.

So are the rest of the rebel ghosts. The dragon remains, perched atop one of the trees.

The ghost who has lost her hair approaches the place where Earl once stood. She waits and moment and then salutes. Several others do the same.

You have won the war.

Behind you, a gate opens. It leads to a graveyard.

Glad we were able to knock a dent in the rebellion, but I'm a bit sad we're winding down it seems! Sad

Take Care,
Kendra

I got pretty much the same thing the rest of you got:
Quote:
Everything happens so quickly it's difficult to decide what to do. It occurs to you in all of this that you have a friend named Groo. But that is something to deal with later.

You chuck the poisonous fruits – there are so many of them! – at Erdu, and they bounce off of his head, appearing to be more of an inconvenience than anything else.

The Great Wizard of the Neighborhood goes into a meditative state and says, "There is unrest in the forest, there is trouble in the trees - for the ghosts are much too flighty, and the fruits destroy their knees." Out of his throat explodes a fiery dragon that blasts more smoke and flames onto the ground below. Erdu, barely more than a whisper at this point, says, "Capture the travelers. Let the ghost with the pistol decide whether he will truly save the living." Then Erdu's spirit disappears. The dragon instantly roasts the ghost in the tuxedo, who vanishes, as well.

The trees return to their original positions and stop moving.

With the dragon backing them, the few remaining rebel ghosts charge toward you and your friends. One woman with short, black hair pulls your hands behind your back and holds you still, though you struggle. She twists your wrist so that the fruits you're holding fall to the ground. There are several seconds of silence before he lowers his head and says, "Guys, tell Randy to take good care of Sticky Itchers. I guess I won't be comin' back this time." He wipes the back of his sleeve across his face. "Take me with you, rebel ghosts. These people don't deserve to suffer any more."

I am guessing we are to head to the graveyard.
My reply:
Quote:
I spend a moment or two, hands on hips, trying to determine if this bad bad rebel dragon was the one I saved the last time I was here. It's difficult to make out details in the aftermath of battle. Muttering to myself: that better not be the one I saved. Grumble Grumble. Turing into a bad dragon. Grumble Grumble.

Seeing everyone appears to be relatively intact I make my way to the graveyard to attempt to determine how the gate magically opened with neither traveler nor ghost nearby.

You take in the situation. Something must be done to save the church.

First, you examine the weapons you were able to retrieve: a shotgun, a battle axe, and what looks like a flame thrower – only it's blue and feels cold to the touch.

Then you head over to the well, where you introduce yourself.

"You! Your wife?!?! You must be Shag," the other traveler says to one of the ghosts. She leads him to another ghost. The she says, "We have to fight to save your son and the village. Your boy is very special, and Pat said that there might be an exception clause to whatever is going on over here because of how special your boy is. Where is Billy?"

A little boy steps forward from behind his mother's skirt. The ghost names Shag drops to his knees and embraces his son.

Then Billy looks up. He says, "The Governor told me that I have an important ability because of how weird I – because I'm special." He looks at his parents, who watch him earnestly. Billy goes on. "I think I can bring ghosts back to life. Back to real life. But I can only do it once a year, and I have to be in the graveyard. It's complicated. I've never done it before." He lowers his head. "I don't understand why I'm special."

Perhaps all hope is not lost?!

My Response

Quote:
I observe the interaction silently, mumbling slightly in distaste at the shotgun, far too technological for my tastes, tho the freezing spray has potential. I stow the battle axe and blue flamethrower device silently offering the shotgun to my fellow traveler.

As Billy speaks I suddenly think back to the ghost in the misty vision.

I smile at Billy.

"No one ever really knows why they are special Billy. It's not important really."

Using a sleight of hand I learned years ago I "create" a silver coin and begin rolling it back and forth across my knuckles in front of the boy

"My name is Koli" I say, " Koli Xela"

I pause a moment, allowing the boy to watch the coin as it glides back and forth across my knuckles

"It sounds to me like you have a purpose to fulfill here Billy"

I smile to the child's parents

"Why don't we get you to the graveyard?"

I pause a moment, several thought coalescing in my mind

"But first, I think we need to do something about the fire at the church"

I stand, turning to look at Billy, my head cocking to the side slightly as I smile, offering him the small silver coin. I then turn and make the brief journey back to the church and blast the flames with the cold, blue colored flamethrower device.

With that completed I turn back to Billy, his parents and my fellow traveler, string my bow and nock an arrow then wait to see if Billy will make the journey to the graveyard to fulfill his purpose.

'Far too many things going on, far too little time I fear'

And wow, I am a really random person today LOL

Thrilled about the open space and air, you nearly burst into a recitation of "Jabberwocky," but you pull yourself together first.

Another traveler arrives – carrying weapons – and he introduces himself.

First you thank your companion who helped you and then turn to Shag Unsound. You bring him to his wife. You ask where Billy is.

He steps forward from behind his mother's skirt. Shag Unsound drops to his knees and embraces his son.

Then Billy looks up. He says, "The Governor told me that I have an important ability because of how weird I – because I'm special." He looks at his parents, who watch him earnestly. Billy goes on. Yay! We might be able to get Earl back after all. Anyway, for what it's worth, I still have another bottle of Sticky Itchers. Just FYI.

I got pretty much the same email that others in the battleground got, so I won't post it. I'm just making my way to the graveyard.

It looks like the game is almost over. Sad

Winding down
I'll sure miss this fun town

I sent in my response to head to the graveyard in hopes we can also save Earl. I wrote:

Quote:
Seeing the battle and what seems to be the war over, I look with a bit of apprehension to the graveyard. While the gated area exudes feelings of safety, I bite my lip and wonder if we've done all that we can to save the Governor.

Then my mind flashes to the young man in flannel who sacrificed himself. Something must be done, I resolve. We ought try to find this Ralph person he was speaking about. Afterall, apparently he is heir-apparent to the intriguing business venture we could work out.

Steeling up my resolve as I walk to the graveyard, I turn to Absynth and say, "Mrs. Nibbles will follow us, surely? I think we need all the aid we can get to rescue that poor flannel-shirted ghost. Although, do you have any ideas about how we can do that?"

Okay, was waiting til closer to the time, but I'm bringing Billy to the Graveyard now....

Quote:
I touch Billy's ghostly cheek as I kneel down to his level (though it's not very far).

"No one knows why they're special, Billy. They just are. It's much better than being un-special, if you ask me. Lots and lots of people are very very un-special. Myself included," I explain. "Some people give their lives or more just to be special."

I stand up, looking expectantly at Mr. Shag and the lovely Mrs. Shag, as though anticipating some kind of protest or opposition to whatever it is is about to happen to their son. I think the worse, and I wonder, in the back of my head, if I'm not just leading yet another lamb to the slaughter.

"Okay, ghost-folks, I suppose we're going to the Graveyard." I usher them over to the Governor's motorcar, trying to pile in as many ghost-passengers as possible, sometimes having them sit on each other's laps to make room. The Governor is just going to have to bill me for whatever refinishing and upholstering is needed afterwards.

I drive my ghostly crew quickly (but with safety in mind) to the Graveyard.

I have to admit... I'm not sure I want to do this. He's a little boy. Sad

All hope is not lost!

Quote:
One of the travelers kneels down to face Billy. "No one knows why they're special, Billy," she says. "They just are. It's much better than being un-special, if you ask me. Lots and lots of people are very, very un-special. Myself included. Some people give their lives or more just to be special." Billy looks at her as if he is memorizing every syllable.

Another traveler also leans down to Billy and says, "Kiddo, listen. We all have a purpose in life. A destiny if you will. Some people are destined to be butchers, or bakers. Some," he continues, looking at some burns on his own flesh, "are destined to be almost burned alive by evil ghost-bakers."

Billy nods knowingly.

"Very few people know what their true destiny is, and they're the lucky ones. However, I can tell you this, Billy. Everyone is special, and everyone has a purpose. It just seems like you might have a slightly more... important purpose. But I believe in you, kiddo. We all believe in you."

Then it's your turn. You give him a pep talk combined with a magic trick. The perfect grande finale. Billy watches in wonderment as the coin glide across your knuckles. When you give him the gift, his transparent eyes sparkle.

Then he reaches out to touch another traveler's arm. He looks at everyone in the group. "I know that you are special," Billy says, "because the Governor brought you here. You and your friends have saved our home. I just want to repay you."

His parents smile. There are tears in his mother's eyes. She whispers to you, "He is such a brave boy. Thank you all for believing in us."

You express that it is time to save the church first.

The other traveler stands up and rubs his glasses clean on his shirt and says, "I don't believe we've met. I'm FractalP."

Then he turns to another ghost woman and asks, "Hi there! Listen, I was wondering. I have this horseshoe here which scared off the ghosts earlier, but I don't know why. Could it be something to do with the Frenghif iron in it?"

Several ghosts utter hushed gasps. The old man answers, "Yes. Many ghosts have severe reactions to this type of iron, but not all. It permanently burns those of us with a weakness for the material. That is a powerful weapon you hold."

You go to the church and pull out the blue freeze gun. Holding the cold metal in your hands, you blast the fire with a thick, blue gel that instantly sets the church to simmering in the chilly air outside. The sound of crackling wood stops.

With that done you return to your group, string a bow, and nock an arrow.

The other traveler rounds up the ghosts from the church, squeezing the spirits into her motorcar. You join them, just barely fitting into the back seat. As soon as everyone is settled, the traveler hits the gas and takes all of you to the graveyard.

It's at the north end of the village, just before a large mansion. To your right, something burns. There is a large commotion going on just over there, but you can't see what it is.

As you approach the open gates of the graveyard, a soft voice says, "There are many graves in this lot." You look. It is merely a thin thread of air that resembles a woman speaking to you. "If you come to revive, you and your friends will need to complete several tasks in short time. I must see two items that have a connection to the deceased. I must also see three life beads. The Governor must receive a visual or audio memorial to the deceased (I can deliver this). And, finally," the ghost says, her voice trailing off. "Ah, Billy. You have come. The final ingredient is here. As long as Billy agrees, then the work can be completed."

You look at Billy, who is beaming. He looks proud to be so helpful.

"I should warn you," the ghost woman adds, "that though Earl DeRosa's grave is here, his spirit is not. He has been taken by a savage beast and cannot be revived unless his spirit is returned to this lot."

OK, I have 2 life beads, if someone else here (fractalP or dis aster) has one that's 1 problem down.

We need the bloody handkerchief (which I think FractalP has) and the Shower Scrub as two items for his revival.

We have Billy here, at that point we need a visual or auditory memorial (probably should be someone who knew him from Purity Towers, only thing coming to my mind would be to sing Goodbye Earl... funny as that might be I don't think it would help Razz)

Snapping back into the present after my brief escapade into La-La Land, I take in the events that have just occurred. Poor kid, I think. He might be the only one who can save this village. What a weight for such a young'n to carry, even if he is a ghost.

I squat down in front of Billy and say "Kiddo, listen. We all have a purpose in life. A destiny if you will. Some people are destined to be butchers, or bakers. Some," I continue wryly, glancing down at my burns, "are destined to be almost burned alive by evil ghost-bakers."

I notice my fingers fiddling with the horseshoe in my hand. Holding it up to the light, I can make out the words Infused With Frenghif Iron engraved on the side. It's the same stuff as that can of whipped cream, I think. Frenghif iron. Hmm. I notice a ghostly lady to my right and wave cheerily, sure to keep the horseshoe well away in case it reacts. "Hi there! Listen, I was wondering. I have this horseshoe here which scared off the ghosts earlier, but I don't know why. Could it be something to do with the Frenghif iron in it?"

Hmm. I guess that's what happens when I write at such an ungodly hour.

"But first," Koli says, "I think we need to do something about the fire at the church."

You introduce yourself to the others near you, and then you ask a ghost about Frenghif Iron.

Several ghosts utter hushed gasps. The old man answers, "Yes. Many ghosts have severe reactions to this type of iron, but not all. It permanently burns those of us with a weakness for the material. That is a powerful weapon you hold."

Koli turns back to the church and pulls out a blue flamethrower. You're about to stop him when you realize that it isn't a flamethrower at all; it's a freeze gun! He blasts the fire with cold, blue gel that instantly sets the church to simmering in the chilly air outside. The sound of crackling wood stops.

With that Koli returns to your group, strings a bow, and nocks an arrow.

Okay, so at the moment I have in my possession: a ghost-repellant horseshoe, which belonged to a farmer of some sort, I think; and a life bead. Aside from Earl, who should we try and resurrect? I'd like to be able to bring back Ms Sepsis, cos she was kinda nice (although she did try and bake me) and I don't want to leave the Village pie-less. It doesn't look like I or anyone has anything of hers, though.

Pre-post edit (thanks to topic review): Okay, koli, we have the 3 life beads here. I remember diszaster had the evidence rag/kerchief. As I didn't play much past the start of Purity Towers, I don't know what Goodbye Earl is, but it actually sounds fairly appropriate. Look like we've got a bit of thinkerising and plannerating to do before tomorrow, then.

Well.. Goodbye Earl is a song by the Dixie Chicks, it's what came to my mind and made me smile, but I don't think it's appropriate Razz

Here's a link to the lyrics

OK I have 2 beads, you have 1, we have the bloody rag and it looks like Billy is ready. I have the gel gun, think I should approach the other fire and save the berry trees, keep the Governor's protections intact.

We need to get Earl's spirit back from the dragon.. and quickly.

So I think I will give you the 2 life beads I have and head towards the fire to try and contain the damage, we need someone who knows Earl to speak with him and we need to ask Billy to support resurrecting Earl. Then we need the soap. Even if the soap is used we should still have the empty box ^_^
