Hum... okay, so I think we're missing 1 life bead and 1 audio or visual memorial to Earl?

Is anyone doing that?

Fractal has 1 bead so that makes 3.

We need one memorial and one more personal object (the soap that someone should still have)

I got the same reply many of you got, so I'm just gonna post what I responded with. I might have come up with a memorial, I don't know.

I keep a wary on the dragon-eating kitty as I try to wipe fruit juice off of me and wring it from my hair. How-what... I mean... She seems perfectly content after her snack. I don't see how it's physically possible, though, she has to be breaking some sort of physical law.

I fish around in my pockets for the scrap of paper Earl gave me. "I don't know if this will help, or if it's enough of a connection to Earl, but it's all I have." I hand the paper over.

Now, a memorial. I don't know what we could do, but we've got to decide fast. Distractedly, I begin to think out loud. "He had the manliest soap/ With the power to stop time/ He saved all our lives/ And cleaned up our grime/ Burma-Shave." Well, it's not high literature, but it might work.

I'm distracted by what the wispy ghost said about a child reviver. I didn't get to explore all of Transition Village, but the only child ghost I've ever heard of or encountered was Billy. My heart rises with the hope that this reviver is him, that he made it through this war safely. I strain my neck looking into the oncoming car, eager to catch a glimpse of him. But what, I wonder, would he have to give up? The thought of harm coming to him makes me feel queasy.

Yeah. Burma-Shave. Razz

I give the wispy lady-ghost the bloody hand rag that was proof of Earl's murder. Then, I try to draw out some kind of memorial to Earl. It's crude. But it is most definitely to the point.

I watch quietly as the others gather around the Graveyard. I'm sombre because, as much as I liked Earl, and how manly he smelled, I also really like Billy, and Billy has a whole un-life to look forward to, doesn't he? And why did the wispy lady-ghost call him an "ingredient"?

I shrug to myself and play along.

As a backup, I did this quick and dirty "memorial": http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/1P8_97IoSzflbnvrXVRZjw?feat=directlink

lmao, that's awesome! So we got an audio and a visual memorial, lots of life beads, way more than two items... maybe we'll bring back an army of Earls.

Hm... We're missing stuff.

Quote:
If anyone is worth saving, it's a manly-smelling guy like Earl. You set to work drawing a crude memorial that ends up being anything but. In fact, it's quite touching. You know Earl will be thrilled to see it. You might even submit it to the Transition Times for publication someday.

As you work, Koli says, "Well, I don't know who this Earl is, but it sounds like something needs to be done for him." He turns to your other companion. "I'm not sure but I think these are the beads she is talking about." Koli reaches out and drops two life beads into the traveler's hand.

"I think we need to attend to that second fire" he says, smiling to the ghosts gathered around. He looks at you and the other traveler. "You two stay here and make sure everything goes alright, ok?" Preparing his bow and arrow, Koli turns toward the nearby fire and heads out of the graveyard. Over his shoulder he says, "My destiny calls me elsewhere," and then he is gone from your sight into the red and smoky northeast of the village.

You present the illustrated memorial to Earl, along with the bloody rag of evidence. All the while you keep an eye on Billy. He seems lost in thought.

"I have a life bead," your other companion says. "I would like to put this towards resurrecting a ghost. I believe... his name is Earl." He offers up his own life bead for Earl DeRosa, whose body is buried in the graveyard, but whose spirit is still missing. Then he delivers Koli's two life beads. That completes the necessary amount.

Three things are still missing: another item connected to Earl, Earl's soul, and Billy's sacrifice… whatever that may be.

The ghost collects your items without a word and then heads to another group of travelers. You see them moving and talking, but you can't hear them. Everyone waits in a tense silence.

After working with the others, the ghost heads to the center of the graveyard.

You wait, silently.

In the distance, the fire goes out and turns to a smoldering scene of smoke.

All at once, the thin sliver of air that is the graveyard guard speaks in a booming voice you didn't realize she had. Her words carry throughout the entire graveyard.

"I have more than three life beads. I have received two memorials that are sufficient to revive Earl DeRosa. I have received one item connected to Earl DeRosa. The child reviver is here and must make his decision. However, I am lacking one more item connected to the deceased, as well as his soul."

Her voice echoes and dies cross the gray lawn before she adds, "You have one day."

Where's Earl and one more Earl-thing?

EARLS SOUL FOUND

I figured last night after Mrs. Nibbles ate the dragon that she may have Earl's soul, so i sent another whisper to the TV people, so I could keep it out of the dialogue in game if it didnt work, but it seems it did!

Quote:
You whisper to Mrs. Nibbles, asking her whether she might have Earl's soul trapped inside of her belly. She purrs in your face and then lets out the cutest little kitty burp – that smells a whole lot like soap.

The translator turns to the snakes and lizards and says, "Frrreeeeeesaaaaaaaathhhhhh." Then she turns to you and your fellow travelers and says, "Let us not forget those who gave their lives or afterlives for us to still be here. A moment of silence."

Everyone – human and reptile – bows his or her head in the chilly graveyard near the burning fire. You think of the many brave creatures and people who did not make it this far, and you honor their memories.

From across the way one traveler with a bow and arrow passes your group and leaves the graveyard to head back into the fiery trees. You see him walk past, and then he disappears into the flames and smoke.

The translator says, "Krrrriiiiiiiithhhhhlaaaaa meeeeeeroooooo?"

One snake replies, "Grrrrrrripppppppunnnnng. Nifffffffthhhhhonnng."

Instantly, another traveler hands over a life bead. The ghost takes it from him.

"I don't know if this will help, or if it's enough of a connection to Earl, but it's all I have," another traveler says. She pulls out a scrap of paper and hands it to the ghost, but the ghost shakes her head. Apparently that will not do. Maybe because it was only delivered by Earl. It didn't belong to Earl.

Not to be outdone, the traveler clears her throat and recites several heart-warming lines about the heroic Earl DeRosa. "He had the manliest soap/ With the power to stop time/ He saved all our lives/ And cleaned up our grime/ Burma-Shave." The graveyard is silent for several seconds after she finishes, and you think you hear someone sniffle in the background. The ghost nods to suggest that she accepts this offering.

Another traveler tosses her life bead into the mix. Then she opens a book and begins reading.

You offer two more life beads.

Four things are still missing: two items connected to Earl, Earl's soul, and a child reviver's sacrifice… whatever that may be.

The ghost collects your items without a word and then heads to another group of travelers. You see them moving and talking, but you can't hear them. Everyone waits in a tense silence.

anyone know how to get a soul out of a ghost kitty? without me having to lose the first histamine free cat i have ever had the pleasure of keeping? If I need to I would sacrifice her for Earl's sake, but I would like to find another way.

I'm going to reply that I think I know where his soul is and see if The ghost who does the reviving can separate the two, so that is the best move i can think of for the night.

My Reply:
Quote:
Uneasily, I approach the ghost who has given us our one day time limit and say, "I think the soul of Earl DeLaRosa is inside of this kitten. She devoured the dragon that destroyed him and now she smells curiously of soap. If there is a way to separate the two, I would be most thankful. I do not want to lose this little furball, she has become quite dear to me."

My name is... not Earl
But I may have one more item

Does an empty bottle of soap count as an item? I'm going to try giving that in and see if that helps!

Here's what TV sent me, mostly the same:
Quote:
You turn to the snakes and lizards and ask them for a moment of silence, and then you translate to your fellow travelers. Everyone bows his or her head in the chilly graveyard near the burning fire. You think of the many brave creatures and people who did not make it this far, and you honor their memories.

From across the way one traveler with a bow and arrow passes your group and leaves the graveyard to head back into the fiery trees. You see him walk past, and then he disappears into the flames and smoke.

You ask the reptiles gathered near you whether they have any advice. One snake replies, "It is your choice. We know that you are just, and you will do what is right. Anyone you revive will be a life saved. The person must be buried here, though, if we understand correctly."

Edited to add: Oooh a full bottle might be better! Hmm. I'll have to think about what else might be useful.

Ooh! I have the second item! A full bottle of Sticky Itchers Shower Scrub!

Transition Village wrote:
You ask about reviving ghosts, and the young man and woman look at each other. They hesitate before the girl finally answers, "That's only for people who aren't supposed to stay here forever. The Governor knows the difference. Basically, if you're buried in that graveyard, you're up for revival. If you don't get revived…"

Her boyfriend finishes for her. "If you're buried and you don't get revived, then you stay here in Transition Village." He pats his girlfriend on the back. "It's not that bad a place, after all. Come on. Let's go to the graveyard, then."

The two ghosts take your hands, and the next thing you know, you're spinning, lifted just above the ground. It's disorienting for a moment, but then everything becomes still again, and you find yourself at the gates to the graveyard, standing just behind another traveler!

A thin wisp of air that vaguely resembles a woman speaks to the traveler.

"There are many graves in this lot," she says. "If you come to revive, you and your friends will need to complete several tasks in short time. I must see two items that have a connection to the deceased. I must also see three life beads. The Governor must receive a visual or audio memorial to the deceased (I can deliver this). And, finally, the child reviver must agree to the group decision. He must be willing to give up that which he wants most."

You notice a car driving up on the other side of the graveyard. There are many people and ghosts in it.

"I should warn you," the ghost woman adds, "that though Earl DeRosa's grave is here, his spirit is not. He has been taken by a savage beast and cannot be revived unless his spirit is returned to this lot."

When I failed to send in my response before the required time today (school is hard!):

Transition Village wrote:
As you stand, distracted, the traveler near you pulls out a life bead and mutters "Earl, Earl, Earl… hopefully you'll find rest one day."

She turns to see you. "Hello?"

"Is the war… over?" The young ghost man looks around hopefully.

The ghost guard takes the traveler's item and heads to the center of the graveyard.

You wait, silently.

In the distance, the fire goes out and turns to a smoldering scene of smoke.

All at once, the thin sliver of air that is the graveyard guard speaks in a booming voice you didn't realize she had. Her words carry throughout the entire graveyard.

My reply:

Snapping back to reality, I call out "I have another item connected to Earl!" I proudly hold up the bottle of Sticky Itchers that I've been carrying for most of my time in Transition Village. "The manliest shower scrub on Earth!" I wait expectantly, hoping that I'm not too late to help the man who taught me the man's way of getting clean.

You toss another life bead into the mix, worrying the whole time about poor Billy. His name has spread throughout the village at this point, and few people don't know about how special he is. He's won the heart of nearly everyone he's encountered. You wish you'd collected a gift for him somewhere along the way.

In an idle attempt to find some help, you search through the Don't Believe This book.

Don't Believe This

Page 102 No ghost has ever been born a ghost. If a ghost were to be born a ghost, which would never happen, then that ghost would be absolutely unable to perform amazing feats such as spirit revival from the graveyard. Also, that hypothetical and completely impossible ghost would be horribly allergic to and hate all Frenghif fruits, and he would lead a life of utter misery.

One other traveler, holding his very full kitten close to him, offers two more life beads.

Well, Billy can eat the berries. Not sure if that helps or not. He can also have a happy life. That's good.

My response, since it seems I have nothing further to do:
Quote:
Feeling about as useless as useless can be I quietly say to myself:

"So Billy was born a ghost and CAN revive a spirit from the grave. He can eat the frenghif berries and lead a happy life. That last bit is good to know. Maybe he can give up eating the berries? That might not be so bad."

I worry just a little less about Billy's future but my natural predisposition for thinking the worst takes over and I again wonder if the poor boy might have to give up his mom and dad.

In an attempt to redirect my thoughts to something more fruitful I wonder what ghost DNA might look like compared to human. Unless of course the ghost is a kitty in which case I would prefer it compared to an equivalent living creature.

Meanwhile, in the burning inferno

Quote:
Not knowing who Earl is but accepting that he sounds like someone who needs some help, you pull out two life beads and hand them to your friend. Then you prepare your bow once more as you head toward the nearby fire.

It is hot here, and you are alone. Bodies of snakes and lizards lie strewn everywhere, torn to pieces. The fire burns all around you. You pull out your freeze gun and save the trees and mansion from burning to ashes.

A man with a round belly and a top hat approaches you from the back of the mansion. He is alive. He bows when he sees you, though you have your arrow aimed at him.

"My most sincere gratitude for your brave deeds," he says. "If you would, could you please accompany me to the graveyard?" He gestures back the way you came. "I believe I have many more thanks to give out quite soon."

Quote:
I am unsure who this new arrival is but I venture to guess this may be the Mayor of Transition Village. I slowly remove the arrow and place it back into the quiver on my back and turn to face the new arrival.

"Of course" I motion towards the graveyard, "There seems to be something pivotal going on over there, I can't say I know a lot about it"

I turn back to the man and motion briefly

"I need a few minutes. The trees are safe, the mansion is secure but there are still things to be done"

With that said I turn and begin to make my way through the reptiles, stopping by each one to speak for it and bury them. I don't know what happened here but it's apparent that these creatures died in the altercation and friend or foe, living or ghost, it simply isn't right for them to be left to rot.

It takes a fair amount of time but after the last creature is put to rest I turn and solemnly follow the man back to the cemetery

It just seemed right to me

I get it now; it means the kitten, not the dragon. Hehe.

Also, I have *no* idea what to do now. I don't think I actually can do anything, except wave around my magic horseshoe.
