Christiana Ellis (podcast novelist [Space Casey is awesome]) got a package/trailhead for this. She filmed the unpacking process.

Her dog is cute.

I think I may have found a redeeming online asset: a cast member's cartoon of her experience.

Actually, the reason I dislike the feature is because it makes the game less real and less immersive. The writing style does not match that of my friends and therefore it completely shatters the fourth wall.

I agree. It really doesn't work, mainly because it gives completely different personalities to a lot of my friends, and it has people who have never even met in my friends list talking to each other.

And everyone speaks English. And we don't have ER's in the UK, we have Casualty. It's just a bit weird, really.

I looked at the site without the facebook personalization. They have a fair amount of content on it - so it is interesting to read. Because I'm coming into this so late, I don't know if that site was updating constantly or a more static page. There are periodic warnings on the page that reminds you this "virus" is a fictional event - so that pretty much breaks the immersion.

I'm not sure how I feel about the use of facebook connect. Apart from the legal questions (if any, because I don't think Discovery is collecting data from the users as to their friends) and the immersion being imperfect, I think this is the first game I know of to use facebook to actively immerse itself into a player's online life. Pretty smart concept I think -- usually the player is entering the game world, in this instance it seems that the game is really entering the player's world, in a more aggressive way than just sending an email, text, twitter or phone call.

The show starts on Tuesday, I will be checking to see what happens online then.

So did I miss the boat on this one?? The whole story is on the site? No games, no puzzles, just survivalist information? Well, that's cool. I did get a good laugh out of #5 on the list of 10 items to have.

Kinda already a survivalist. So, yeah, old information. Just kinda waiting on the zombie outbreak.
