Although its pretty clear there's going to be an event at SDCC, I suspect there's going to be a distributed event too, to follow.
It could also be one of those events in which the on-site folks need help and guidance from the online folks.

Definitely hoping so. I'll try and see if I can make sure I have IRC access on at least the new iPhone. WiFi may be harder to come by, but I'll have my netbook there.

I have no doubt that you are correct. Remember we received this tweet

If San Diego is your destination, stay connected to this info output. You will receive your directives here.
I'd say this indicates that the "mission" will in San Diego, but off-site from Comicon.

The only thing that makes no sense to me is the fact that if this Twitter feed is legit I don't understand why the PM's have abandoned the main FL site. Before every event in the past there were posts on the site and on the fake message boards reminding people to show up and what not. Granted, the PM's may have decided to just roll with Twitter as it has a much broader reach but I'm still surprised the main site hasn't been updated to reflect the information that they are releasing through Twitter.
Odd, but I'm sure there's a reason.

If I were to guess, I'd say it's due to SDCC. Unless everyone has an unlimited data plan, it's pretty hard for everyone to be able to check the FL site from the Con. WiFi is apparently notoriously scarce or expensive. But by having text messaging, they can keep pretty much everyone in the loop.
I'd expect the FL site to get more active post SDCC, and I'd also expect one more big coordinated push before the movie comes out, so we're clearly not at the crescendo just yet.

I understand using Twitter to coordinate live events at SDCC (which makes total sense from a pure logistics standpoint)...I mean I'm surprised they haven't updated the main site mentioning FL would be at SDCC, especially since they are making it readily apparent via Twitter. For instance, before the Encom Conference FL encouraged folks to make signs and dress appropriately.
I suppose it could just be that they don't wont to make it "official" that FL will be present at SDCC, but in my eyes everything they are saying via Twitter makes it just as obvious as it would be if it were on the FL front page.
I'm being nit-picky, it's just something that has seemed odd to me.

I don't have an iPhone so I'm not 100% sure if an app could do this, but if I had to guess, I gotta feeling that app might 'evolve' into some type a GPS function or set of locations, bringing you off site to something. Scavenger hunt or another Flynn's arcade secret room that can only be found with the app in question.
...Holy cow I'm so jealous of you guys that are going...

Remember, the Identity Raid site even has the link to the twitter account.

I know it's legit, just questioning why they haven't updated the main FL site.

Finally a reason for me to resurrect my neglected twitter account! Aaaaand now I've got a blackberry app set to auto-refresh their feed.
But before I do any of that, I need to score those two SDCC exclusive figures, and the TRON Bearbrick... So excited!
