As the film melts it begins to shrink, pulling holes in the softened surface of the film. The light areas are the holes which have been pulled open and the darker/black areas are where the film is bunched up.
I think this fits with the look of damaged super 8 film.
Equally, they resemble wedge column formation (ice, basalt)-And in terms of unusual rock formations your usually looking at basalt. Interestingly, due to the forces involved in meteor collisions (which hit the earth like supersonic bats out of hell), you get some really interesting (similar) geological formations produced by the heat and compression. Unfortunately the best example I can find is someone's holiday photos, so I'll post the link instead of pasting the pic: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3269/3001678440_5af60e21ce.jpg?v=0
.....There are lots of other examples, especially from the Arctic

Found one! Found a picture of the effect I was talking about: Edit: added a better comparison between the original and some melted film
The film in this picture is more burnt but it shows the effect of film melting in the projector. The holes look the same, there are some darker areas on the left which also look similar to the image from the trailer and there are areas where you can see air bubbles trapped under the film making faint circles (like the one in the upper left of the trailer image)
I think this is what we're seeing, a shot of super 8 film melting in the projector.

Whilst
I suspect
this is a circular argument in the absence of more info, and whilst I don't deny similarities, I have a couple of observations.
- The burning super-8 film tends to form into a fractal packing pattern known as an apollonian sphere (attached) - It is the natural emergence of efficiency, you get the same in beer, volcanoes and other burning material. The image does not fall into this pattern.
- Looking at the pic, there are some long linear segments, which in the burning example is a late phenomena (as with other net examples i.e. bubble->hole->linear segments). I would expect more air for my lines if you catch my drift
-There exists precise concordance between this image and 3-4 other S8 images in the intercut sequences http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=711895#711895 ==> Out of all the playing with overlays I did, it's one of the few I remained reasonably convinced of with the eye of retrospect.
........I guess time will tell

Must we purify ourselves in Lake Minnetonka?

HA! About 8 years ago I went into my local regular sushi bar here in LA and there was this absolutely drop dead gorgeous babe sitting next to me eating alone. We chatted a bit, I bought her a sake all the while drooling over this freshly showered jasmine buxom beauty..
When it came time for her to pay her bill she offered up an Amex card.. which they dont take., She started crying because she had no cash to pay her bill..
I came to the rescue and paid her tab. She gave me a hug and her card and told me to call her and she'd make it up to me..
The card read "Apollonia Kotero"
Problem was.. i'm happily married..8(

Neato Magneto Powers I did a brief forum search, so forgive me if its already been brought up.
But does anyone think the monster has magnetic abilities?
Notice that the hatch not only revolves by itself, but I only just now realize all the rivets tht were flying off of the door like bullets before the door bugles out from impacts or force.

Close brush with a trout but the word magnetic gets you off... All discussed here:

That may tend to simply encourage people to cross post in other threads trying to get an answer.
I see no problem letting a new member know about trouting, if it's instructional and helpful to avoiding it in the future. Ignoring people doesn't help anyone... ignorance is hardly bliss, in such cases. A timely trouting may encourage use of searches and topic scanning, making for a better, more productive forum member and sooner.
Spammers and OG trolls aside, I think everyone deserves the respect of a reply.
