 IDENTITY Raid

I know this has been talked about a bit on this topic, but I wonder if there is a reason for the choice of "RAID" as in an event similar to the "RAID" at the SF conference. lol

Wink

This is more of a thought provoking rhetorical question for the ARG family here.

From Webopedia:

Quote:
RAID: (rād) Short for Redundant Array of Independent (or Inexpensive) Disks, a category of disk drives that employ two or more drives in combination for fault tolerance and performance. RAID disk drives are used frequently on servers but aren't generally necessary for personal computers. RAID allows you to store the same data redundantly (in multiple paces) in a balanced way to improve overall performance.

In Tron terms, it would relate to the concept of identity discs, memory storage of programs, etc. — all themes developed in the first film.

For TRON: LEGACY, it might be a clue about the virtual development of the Tron universe since the 1980s. Perhaps it hints at the 'redundancy' of character 'storage' as data in the system. In effect, you could 'kill' a program and there could possibly be another duplicate copy in the system. Pure speculation there!

Probably an SDCC related timer. It would be nice if the rest of us could be involved though.

That could also explain Clu being back in this one. just a thought....

Great points are being made.. I knew about the RAID drives, but I wondered if there more than one meaning behind them... and I wish there was mroe "events" for the rest of us too... ditto.

Also, if you think about Alan's line in the preview "He said he was about to change everything: science, medicine, religion," and you tie that in to an identity RAID, we're talking about backing up the entire human pattern and extending it indefinitely within a machine. As long as that machine is running, the digitized persona is theoretically immortal. Especially if backups are kept...even if you're derezz'ed, you can be restored from the last backup.

Will be interesting to see what's actually in there. But either way, the countdown expires during the panel at SDCC, so we'll know soon. Also, if something happens at that URL, the folks who are sitting at the panel won't be able to actually check it (probably), so it would seem we will need help from those unable to attend.

Well, even early mentions in TRON:LEGACY referenced him as Clu2.0 (not sure if it was official), but I see the TronWikia lists the character as Clu2, a program "identical to Kevin Flynn" created in 1988.

If you buy all that, then it would appear Clu2 was/is a separate, next-gen program made after original Clu's derezzing and not a duplicate copy. Spec.

I have a theory as to what might replace the countdown. I remember someone said the timer should run out about 11:30 AM on the 22nd, and that being the middle of the panel. I'm thinking perhaps they'll release what ever footage they show at the panel for those who couldn't attend. I'm leaning towards a new trailer, specifically the one shown in amsterdam last month. I'm also thinking a new game could replace the timer

I'm leaning towards a simultaneous release of the new trailer at SDCC and online. That way everybody, everywhere gets to see it at the same time.

We'll have to wait and see. I've got the IDENTITYRAID page minimized on the dock of my Macbook Pro. I plan on keeping it there until the 23rd, just checking in on it every so often...

so i def can't make it to the SDCC area on a whim. i wish the light cycle puzzle had more evidence of something outside the con.

if there is anything that has to do with a physical identity disc - swag - right here right now somebody please grab 2 for a kind hearted donation to me Smile

Here's what I think this countdown might lead to:

1. A new trailer and/or whatever footage will be shown at SDCC that day (most likely)
2. A new scavanger hunt (second-least likely
or, 3. A live stream of the SDCC panel (least likely)

What do you guys think?
