Final Countdown - Chicago
Discussion to get folks in and around Chicago who are involved

Hey...I've started getting contact for the Chicago people, but in case there are others who haven't chimed in, feel free to post here. Right now, I'm hoping we can pull together ideas of where to scope and how to best use our resources.

Also, PM me if you'd like to get on the contact list.

RHT1 posted, but I haven't gotten confirmation yet (I don't think).

So, let's get a headcount. Sound off, people. Smile

Don't want to muck up your thread, I'd be asking to join you folks if I didn't have to leave town, and not to another major city either. (I am seriously upset about that.)

But, uh, had some initial thoughts before reality set in about possible locations. Just brainstormed some bookstores, established independent ones that would be easy to find a listing for even if you weren't local. Sure it's nothing you couldn't do on your own, but thought I'd pass them along?

Printer's Row, 715 S Dearborn (South Loop)
Sandmeyer's Bookstore, South Loop (714 S Dearborn btwn Polk/Harrison)
Powell's Bookstore(s) 2 locations, Lakeview area, Hyde Park

Hyde Park stores are interesting since it's close to the university. In the fictional universe, seems likely someone doing a tour with very philosophical comp sci books might go near a university?

These 2 maybe too far from city center:
Bookman's Alley, Evanston (1712 Sherman Ave)
Quimby's Bookstore (1854 W. North Ave, Wicker Park)

Anyway, good luck to you! Never have I wished I could run around in the cold more Sad

Good thoughts, ADarkly. I'm leaning towards Printer's Row right now. Seems like they did the last one near the Loop, and that seems the most central point, so I'm hoping for that. If not, I guess we're all going to have to make haste somewhere else.

Sorry we'll miss you, we'll do our best to represent ourselves well to the cause!

modopal, just PM'd you.

And to add to what ADarkly mentioned (which I was pretty much the same as my list I was working on, nice one):

My first choice would be the Prairie Avenue Bookstore because they carry mostly architectural books, plays into all the architecture references.

You can't forget 57th St Books in Hyde Park.

And I know it'd be too easy, but I guess don't ignore the Borders and Barnes & Noble locations... might be included.

I know the only barnes and noble in the downtown area is at State and Elm which could be a really good spot to have a clue (just visited there the other day) I think though that it would be a place that was around 20+ years ago. I think the ARG game masters have really done their homework. That being said I could be totally wrong

To add to the possible location discussion. I would also think that they would try to keep it fairly central to the city. Hyde Park and Evanston being fairly far apart. My guess is they would want people to gather in the middle. Just a thought i'm new at this so forgive my ignorance.

Prairie Avenue was the one I couldn't remember. I think that and Sandmeyers are the best candidates.

Now, I'm thinking we meet at the Harold Washington Library about a half an hour before the countdown expires, and we go from there. Priners Row is our best guess if they're doing bookstores, and if not, the Loop is still the most likely place, so that'll put us a) central, and b) near free Wifi.

Anyone else to add to the list? I'll do a sendout of my cell contact info so we can stay in touch.

Also, anyone have an iPhone? There's an IRC app I used at SDCC that would come in mighty handy to stay on #flynnlives.

While I don't have an iPhone, my GF will be logged into FL and here hile we're all in the city during the Endgame. She's been my Oricle for the WSS Batsignal event and she did a wonderful job. I'll be in constant contact with her throughout this game.

I will be out and about. I'm still thinking a central start is a good idea. Anyone else who wants to meet me at the Harold Washington Library, let me know. We'll coordinate cell #s, etc.

I'm so excited for tomorrow! I'll be taking the train in to Union Station early. I'll be wearing a FL shirt and my Space Paranoids, 89, Guard and Face-Off pins! I'll also be bringing my Backpack (incase of swag) and a Chicago street guide for reference.

I wouldn't mind meeting up at the library, madopal. It'd be good to pre stratigise! I'd recommend that anyone else that's able to get to the library early do so too!

Steve
