@apd: Posting something after SPAM doesn't fly. Just report it Here at uF . Degravedi already caught and reported that one.
Coffee Mega PROPS to Jabroni and those who worked on that binary solve which was 6 fries short of a Happy Meal

Have you had a Happy Meal recently? Six fries short is a negative amount of fries.

Well, the binary puzzle seems fully solved as there really wasn't anything else in the message to go on.

The newest F8 puzzle has yet to come to a definite end though, at least if the other two trail segments are any indication. At the end of a F8 trail, we usually get some kind of reward. Now, it's possible that the new Twitter account may be updated to allow that to continue, but there's also the possibility that we're missing something.

Also, maybe it's just me, but does anyone else think that this extremely well thought out viral doesn't have anywhere near enough followers? Arguably, other than referring to the Comic-Con booth itself, there aren't any articles talking about this game anywhere (except ARGN, of course, but that's cause they rock Wink). I can't tell if maybe it's a marketing error on the PMs part and they just didn't think of sending press packets out to some major news sources (cool, themed swag is always an awesome motivator for good press). For something that's actually a form of advertising, I feel bad, like they're not getting their money's worth. I mean, the Serial Huntress Facebook page only has 57 people following it! So uh, maybe anyone who's enjoying this so far can do some good and spread the word?

I've already sent tips to the following, not that more than one person telling them would hurt!
ign.com
bloodydisgusting.com
shocktillyoudrop.com
movieviral.com
firstshowing.net
horrorsquad.com
horrornews.net

So where else? I have absolutely no clue how to go about these things.

Edit: to correct the *lower* number of people watching.

I haven't had any luck, but just in case this helps someone else find the next step: I have tried finding new twitter, facebook, and drop.io accounts using these keywords: H.O. Yardley, Dynamite, Friedrich Nietzsche, and combinations of those.

Edit: I also noticed this in the source of hoyardley.com. Well, it won't let me print the html here, but basically the class that holds the red dynamite is "C3H5NO33" which is nitroglycerine. Still haven't been able to find a website or new page from these keywords though.

Likewise. I suspect that whatever it is, however, is related only to the word "dynamite," simply because it was the only word written in red at hoyardley.com. It seems odd that there isn't something more to it, but they did a great job at hiding this one.

I edited my last post; I realized that I was having a dyslexic moment and put '75' instead of '57' followers of the Serial Huntress blog. Of course, I then became totally distressed that I have more followers and I never even say anything that isn't a direct response to a viral campaign!

Seriously, this game has exceptional production values and its puzzles are exactly at the level for average consumers -- obscure knowledge isn't necessary, they're tough but not distressingly convoluted, ect. It may not be as extensive as the (much personally loved) Dark Knight viral but it certainly has the potential to be just as widespread. So what's the deal!?

ETA: a google search for 'dexter "serial huntress"' turns up less than 1000 results (as compared to the 15 million+ something like the 'dexter tv' result gives). Disheartening, seriously.

ETA2: Hah! Well at least that's fun. From IMDB's daily poll:

Which dearly departed but frequently present TV father is your favorite?
The character I would have selected is not on this list. 1628 (25.6%)
Harry Morgan (James Remar) from "Dexter" 1472 (23.2%)
Christian Shepherd (John Terry) from "Lost" 1090 (17.1%)
Nathaniel Fisher (Richard Jenkins) from "Six Feet Under" 884 (13.9%)
John Winchester (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) from "Supernatural" 843 (13.3%)
Judah Botwin (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) from "Weeds" 254 (4.0%)
William Walker (Tom Skerritt) from "Brothers & Sisters" 125 (2.0%)
Joe's Dad (Bruce Gray) from "Medium" 62 (1.0%)

Well, to be fair, The Dark Knight was going on for well over a year. It had a lot of time to accumulate new followers through a variety of increasingly-bizarre nationwide (and occasionally international) publicity stunts. I think comparing it with something like the Lost Experience might be more apt, and even though Lost was wildly popular--especially considering the Lost Experience started when Lost was experiencing its highest ratings (before or since)--the game wasn't anything like as widespread as TDK's was. In fact nothing really has been. It comes up with a crapload of results when you search it now, but less than three weeks in, the best thing I could find to summarize what was going on was a website like my own, where someone had just written down everything that had happened chronologically. A lot has been written about The Lost Experience academically, which I think accounts for a lot of those search results as well. I choose Lost because they actually have a comparable number of viewers, and also because the games appear similar in complexity.

This is not to mention that Dexter is on Showtime for a reason. It's directed toward a niche audience, and it took a few seasons for it to pick up the steam that it has even if it was pretty well respected and trendy before that. The Dark Knight was one of the top grossing movies of all time.

I'm not saying I disagree with you at all. I think it seems like it's a complex game so far and it isn't some kind of easy letdown or a simple compilation of some flashy and clever websites like Cloverfield. I'm just saying, it's only been a little while, and it can only really get so big within a couple of months.

I would, however, love it if enough people turned up to offer a solution to the "dynamite" problem because I'm out of ideas and it's driving me crazy. I've been thinking about it all day waiting for some kind of epiphany. None of us seem able to come up with it. I just can't think of anything else. I wonder if this is one of those situations where you could briefly summarize it to a stranger and they would find the answer obvious. It keeps reminding me of that time during TDK when everyone was arguing about whether or not there was something more to the Jokerized trailer or if it was just for fun. Eventually everyone gave up, but not without the nagging sensation that we were missing something, and I'm pretty sure we were.

I'm probably over-analyzing it, but here are my ideas:

I am catching up on this so I may be wrong, but it seems so far that the videos on Sleep Superbly lead to a twitter account, which leads to a puzzle, which leads to a drop.io account and some audio file. But so far all of the drop.io accounts have been given to us in one way or another (we haven't had to guess the url name).

So, this may mean that we just have to report back to semperf8 with our answer (probably dynamite) and he gives us the drop acct. I can't send him a message though, I guess he hasn't accepted me on twitter yet. Has anyone been able to message that account?

Or, this time we have to guess the account name. Or there are still more puzzles to solve.

I edited my older post to add this already, but if you view the source you will see that the morse for dynamite has a special class name. Image here. The class name is the chemical compound for nitroglycerin. After some googling I found out that Alfred Nobel created dynamite by mixing nitroglycerin with silica. But these words seem to be too common to be IG websites or twitter accounts. This stuff is probably way off what they intended us to find though. Confused

I don't think any of those are bad ideas. I can't see how it could be some kind of coincidence that the class name for the morse coded "dynamite" refers to, uhhh, the key ingredient in dynamite. I didn't even realize you could look at java source coding like that until right now. I am clearly a coding genius. That could be something.

As to the Twitter account, I'm wondering if this one has anything to do but nudge us in the right direction. So far, semperf8 hasn't followed anyone else, indicating that direct messages are not part of that plan. There has only been one tweet. I suppose it's possible that other people have received a DM from semperf8, but it seems doubtful. The formula has to evolve or it would become uninteresting. It is getting more difficult as time passes.

But that's a good catch on the nitroglycerin. I wonder what that means.

[META] lack of players

I'm disappointed this game doesn't have more players yet. I think they expected the buzz from the comic-con crime scene to pull in more people. I also think that the creators or show runners of Dexter helped kill the building buzz by making dismissive comments about this ARG. Showtime should have their ducks in a row so that all creative people involved with Dexter will be supportive of the game - heck it is to promote their show.

Maybe Dexter is losing some of its appeal? I know that I am not the interested in watching Dexter deal with raising kids alone, etc.

But I think the failure for this to catch on is just a lack of PR and buzz building that could easily have been done if the Dexter people had been more on board with Showtime.

Of interest to me - Showtime itself doesn't even have a thread following this in its Dexter forums..

I could go on about this, but just designing a great game isn't enough if you can't capture people's interest. They need to step up the PR - but they may have just been taking a flyer on this ARG and don't care if it isn't widely popular. They are missing an opportunity to grab and engage their audience in new and exciting and lasting ways. But Showtime doesn't seem to have grasped the full potential here and the Dexter people are not interested in this promotion.

I don't know how to do PR --I have contacted a few people, even the Showtime forums, but they didn't respond to my message. So...

I feel a lack of players too, because we have so much fun with more people..maybe there is a way to rope in some of the players from the Flynn Lives game which seems to be ending.

[meta]

When have they been dismissive of it? I know that several of the cast actually went to the kill room to check it out. But again, it wouldn't be the first time I've seen that. I know multiple people who ended up in weird altercations with Warner Bros over The Dark Knight game because the people at WB in question had no idea it was even going on, apparently. I find that mildly hilarious. It's just two completely separate things. The online/advertising side of something like this is, you know, generally not done in-house, so there's always some kind of disconnect. They make a contract with an ad agency, tell them everything they think they need to know, and that's it. I do find it surprising that they haven't dropped a line about it on their website, though, which is above average in depth and quality for a TV series and actually just got an Emmy nomination as a result.

Not to mention, I don't think there's a lack of interest in Dexter after the events of season 4. If anything it's piqued interest because it was so off the hook. The ratings for the season 4 finale killed all of Showtime's previous original programming ratings, and were unnervingly high for premium programming. I doubt there has ever been a more anticipated season of Dexter. Season 4 blew so many people away that it brought hoards of new viewers to the table, just because it was so unspeakably good that people just wanted to talk about it. Since season 4 I've converted numerous people who just weren't convinced until people started freaking out about the finale.

I have faith that it will get there.

Showtime has not promoted this past "Dexter Game On", which lead into this and had to have had at least 40,000 players playing. Maybe the crew created this for fun during Dexter's hiatus and the game is made for less than a few hundred people. We'll see. Dexter's popularity is at an all-time high. In fact, the season five trailer was the third top video of the day on YouTube during the week of Comic-Con after being released and a few days afterwards, beat only by stupid videos and no other trailers or promos for a movie or TV show even ranked as high despite the massive amount of trailers released that week.
