Marble Hornets DVD Assistance
I need an animator!

Well first off, I feel kinda dumb that I didn't think to plunder the forums first, but here it is. The title is exactly what's going on: I'm making a Marble Hornets DVD and I need people to animate some stuff for me (a title and some stuff to bridge the Entries when I put them all together and then put them on a disc (and subsequently on Youtube, if enough people want me to).

I'm good with video editing, but I have no means of generating material myself so that's why I'm reaching out for someone to help boost me to where I need to get to make this project happen (hopefully this month).

Wow, that's pretty cool Dav.
When you say "Marble Hornets DVD", are we talking an unofficial Marble Hornets DVD for personal use, or are you in cahoots with the guys themselves?
I'd be interested in contributing, though it wouldn't so much be animations. I can do static artwork and stuff like that.

What kind of animations do you need? I've got the tools and a bit of the know-how, though MH seems to lend itself well to a static Ariel (or was it Verdana? XD) font cue card. Unless you want some TTA-like bridges?

To the title screen editor: You should just make it say marble hornets with a bit of static snow in the back. Along with rainbow distortion of course.

Yeah I am wondering about this too. If it were me, I'd run it by the MH guys before distributing to anyone but myself.

Didn't the MH guys say they weren't able to talk about making a DVD?

The DVD in question is simply for my own edification, both because as a movie series it lends itself to be compiled into one viewing and as a Mythopoeia (storyteller), I am inclined to make retellings of ARGs that I play (anyone who's read Eldritch Errors knows this). That said, if Troy & Joe are cool with it, I will gladly put it on Youtube so people coming along who wished they got to experience Marble Hornets live will be able to (sorta) do so again.

Now for the animations:
I was thinking of making the title be MARBLE HORNETS written in block lettering (in whatever font Jay used, of course) but that flickers as if it were words made of flourescent lights themselves, not unlike the lights in Deluge. They would flicker for a few moments before restarting and becoming visible, after which they would fade away and let the movie continue.

For the bridge, I'm going to be recreating Jay's twitter feed--not tweet-for-tweet, and I'll be adding in a bunch of tweets that share the solves from the early totheark posts, as well as containing some likely speculation or point out stuff that is important from the videos. I haven't completed the "script" past Entry 20 (when I last worked on it) but it's likely that it will be speculation-heavy with what I have filled in to make sense of a largely-disjointed final section of the story.

To do this, there are really only two animations I'm going to need: an animation that looks sorta like this (except with the blue on the inside of the speech bubble and everything else clear or black):

It would pop up from the corner, display the tweet, and when it's done go away and the next tweet would pop up or the next video would play. Not very complicated, but something I can't do. (I have no idea how hard it would be, but I can't imagine it'd be that tough)

The other animation that I actually just thought of would be a sort of recreation of the Youtube video bar--it would slide up, the PLAY button would turn to PAUSE button as the video started, and then after a moment it would slide back down out of sight. This could then be used on all of the videos to make it seem like they're being played off of Youtube instead of a DVD (which is sort of the point of the series, right? That it's shown through Youtube).

Those are my thoughts on the matter. For the manner in which the twitter thing would pop up, here's a video (just watch the first 1 second) that has the above bubble with the kind of popup animation I was imagining.

Obviously, I would send a DVD to whoever helps make the animations, because it's also partly their work of art as well as mine (and the creators, but I'd need their addresses before I could send them a disc Razz)

I hate to rain on everyone's parade, but we can't let the series be distributed in DVD form at this point. Send me or Troy a facebook message for confirmation.

Dav: sounds easy enough. The time spent on all of the different tweets would be the biggest issue. There might be some copyright stuff to work out regarding the twitter-bird design? Then again, regarding Joseph's post (assuming that is him and not an imposter!) I'd definitely hold off and try to catch him via Facebook.

If you're looking for the DVD in the sense of having it for yourself, I can help you out with that for shits and giggles even if it's not to be distributed. It sounds like a nice way to put everything together, and you've put so much time into moderating this sub-forum, it's the least I could do.

My biggest issue would be in regards to interactivity. Those youtube scrolling pop-ups that you're talking about... if they're just part of the video and aren't clickable, then it'd be fine. I just have no clue how to make things as simple as flash buttons. XD
