I'm confused, is this just for the countdown or is it for the PDP-11 sim program as a whole?

Anyway, you wanted spec. Okay we've had several people sneak a peek at the end and got this:
Code:
------------------------------
AF File Library
------------------------------
Sector 9909                  []
DD09 Extract                 []
CL03 Transmission            []
CL05 Extract                 []
CL56 Token                   []

What if that's all we get? Could it be some sort of code to work with? I see ET-ET (Which has been mentioned before in the main thread, I forget by whom or I'd give credit). I myself do not see anything that could be code like but maybe someone else does.

Lastly several code monkeys have stated that this is for sure all the swf will do without a person hitting refresh to possibly get a new file. Personally I plan on having 2 of these open at the appropriate time on Thursday. One I will keep refreshing the other I'll leave alone. Anyway thanks for starting some new threads vapor, I was going to but then I was like what if I do it wrong so I chickened out lol.

I suppose it could be for PDP-11 Sim general discussion as well unless you think that warrants it's own thread. I created the thread mainly as a place we can all post updates as the countdown approaches. I imagine a new [PUZZLE] thread will be started after the countdown ends (assuming there is an actual puzzle involved)

I suppose that when this is supposed to happen, we can execute or print those. Hopefully. Just a random thought; because the "Execute - E []" on the bottom makes me think about the []'s after the Sector names once it's all loaded

Agreed. We might be able to execute, commit to tape drive (whatever that means), and print from the other previously accessed external data. Those sections of data might all hold clues to something.

According to my Mr. Hardware it means save. Razz So we might end up having to edit things accordingly to find out clues. I dunno though.

Yes. Possibly actual puzzles with pieces that need to be decoded and put together. Oh, BTW, glad your posting in here iFaux. Missed ya!

We might all need to plan to be in IRC at that time. It looks like UF will be down for maintenace when the countdown ends.

Oh, yes I also seen that...
So perhaps we should use Mibbit instead of unfiction/chat, if nothing here will be accessible.

Hi all, I noticed at the start of the computer program the name D. Morris and a date 05-Feb-77. Has anyone have thoughts on that?

The IRC is not hosted on the same server as the forum, so it will not be going down. Just use any standard IRC client to go to irc.chat-solutions.org and join #super8 and you're golden.

DEC and HAL

But as I said, off topic.

LOL!

Next, I bet you'd say that DEC stands for Digital Equipment Corporation
Quote:
The PDP-11 16-bit computer was designed in a crash program by Harold McFarland, Gordon Bell, Roger Cady, and others. Its numerous architectural innovations, including the UNIBUS, proved superior to all competitors and the "11" architecture was soon the industry leader.

Source: Computer Profile of the Day ...

Quote:
And the fear that computers might, as in the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey, even try to take charge altogether was widely experienced.

Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) information can be found here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Equipment_Corporation

Quote:
... was originally developed to make a flight simulator for the US Navy, although this was never completed. Instead, this effort evolved into the SAGE system for the US Air Force, which used large screens and light guns to allow operators to interact with radar data stored in the computer.

DEC's location was actually located in MAYNARD, Mass ... A town next to ACTON.
