More than likely. If I wanted to dignify that with a response, this most certainly could turn into one. Laughing

I don't know if tulpas exist, but I do think that Slenderman can exist in some form or another. That bump in the night is SM because you imagine that it is. That vague shape in the trees is SM because you imagine that it is. That's why the image and idea of SM is so powerful and compelling for most of us.

Alright, well, since this seems like the best place to post this, I guess I'll get it out of the way, even at the risk of being flamed incessantly and called a troll.

The Slender-Man mythos is by far one of the scariest things I have ever read, for one simple reason: when I was a young boy, probably from the time I was one until I was three, I lived in an apartment building in front of a large, dense forest. One night, after I had gone exploring in said forest with my father, I began having nightmares about a tall, faceless, paper-white man in a black business suit. Now obviously I didn't know about Slender-Man back then, so I had no idea who or what this thing was. Even scarier for me is that this man had all the "powers" Slender-Man is said to possess (the lengthening of the arms at will, teleportation, etc.). In fact, I distinctly remember one dream even to this day in which the man grabbed me from all the way across the room, lifted me into the air and began to pull me towards him while speaking to me in a language I could not understand.

Now, before I go on I feel I must stress something I find to be of the utmost importance: I KNOW that Slender-Man is not real. I KNOW he/it is a myth created by the good people over at SomethingAwful. I am merely recounting to you a completely true tale of my childhood that happens to coincide with this fictional mythos. That said, there is more to the story. These dreams, as I have described them, went on for a few years. In some I was being chased, in others he/it had already found me, and in others still I was hiding. The thing is, though, after my family moved out of the apartment, the dreams stopped. I never completely forgot about them, but they did not ever recur. For quite some time I never thought anything of them, until one day several months ago when I was sent a link to the Marble Hornets videos. These videos broguht the memories flooding back - or, at least, back to the forefront - and reminded me of my childhood. I began researching Slendy after that, because now I had a name to match the face - or rather, lack thereof - of the nightmares that had plagued me as a child.

I tell you this because I have needed to get it out for a long time, and this seems like the place to do exactly that. Believe me or not, I do not care. This actually happened. I know that, and I would be willing to swear it on whatever holy book or family member's life you desire. I am that certain of it.

You know most memories of childhood never even happened right?

Any way, I agree with the whole "he's there because you think he is" thing. Just like ghost. They don't really make chills, but if you were looking for one and got cold out of nowhere, you'd think it was from ghost. Or believing in ghost themselves.

I actually thought this was where EverymanHYBRID was going, before "Damsel" rolled in and said she had faced him in the past. Would have been a neat tack to take.

Not so long ago I was walking down the street at night quite near my house, and about forty feet away, bold as brass, I saw a figure. A featureless white orb of a face, suspended above a tall, skinny black silhouette that I couldn't exactly make out against the backdrop of houses. Utterly still.

Then I realised that it was a street lamp.

So yeah, seeing Slenderman around doesn't make him real, or make you mad (unless you're seeing him on a regular basis and it's causing you some real distress). It's just the human mind looking for familiar patterns where there are none. Which I find kind of awesome in an "ooh that's interesting" way, but which isn't the same thing as belief making Slenderman real.

Edit: Oh hell, I should probably have checked the date of the last comment before posting... Neutral

I believe he COULD exist.. but only after he became popular.
To those of you have heard of the philip project, you may understand this.

Slender man was created on something awful or something else fictional, I do not deny this. But...
He became popular, hundreds were thinking and having nightmares of him at the same time.
The human brain is very very powerful, and something we still do not truly understand, perhaps, this focused thinking of him.. sort of.. "brought" him into existence. But not truly there, so he could be like ghosts, something you see, but it is not truly there.

And perhaps, he has the ability to do things only the physical body can.

Theory 2
He could be implanted into the human mind as a real entity, so your brain will think of him more, you will always have him at the back of your mind. You may mistake objects for him, and think you saw or dreamt of him in your childhood and thus believe in him even more, so you will see him even without an object to mistake him for. And you will hurt yourself in the night and then blame it on him.

And thus he will be created.

Theory 3: It is just fear and paranoia that makes you think he is real.

Slenderman Az?
kids see someone that looks like slenderman

I heard about the slenderman about 2 months ago and the "myth" sound kind of cool and scary, but here is a really weird true story.
About seven years ago before I even owned a computer my aunt took some kids to go and pick pinons (pine nuts) out in Arizona on the Navajo Reservation. My aunt Rose had about 6 kids with her, she is about 65 years old and the kids were her grand kids and other relatives and were about 4 to 12 years old. The kid came Rose and told her there was a man standing there watching. Rose asked where and they were all pointing to him but she could not see him. Rose asked how does he look they said hes tall with a black coat, black pants, and white shirt.
now this all happened before I even knew any thing about Meme or slenderman.

I believe

Alright, look.
I haven't "seen" Slender Man or encountered him but I strongly believe he's real.
I used to draw EXTREMELY similar images, and had dreams about him.
I know no ones going to believe me, when someone told me about him and I told him about my old dreams, they didn't believe me either.

But i am straight up freaked the fuck out.
Every time I get a ringing in my ears now I get edgy. I wake up in a dark room and am paranoid. It throws me the fuck off.

The EXACT same thing occurred with me.
Same setting. Everything.
I lived in an apartment just in front of some wooded area, it rained frequently and so was often foggy. This was around 5th-7th grade. I am now a Senior in high school.

I had dreams of being in those wood with that THING after me, or staring me in the face and it still scares the shit out of me.
