The Secret World
upcoming game, possible ARG

So, there's this video game under production, which went through many names and is now known as 'The Secret World'.

You can find all the information available over at this forum:
http://www.darkdemonscrygaia.com/forumdisplay.php?f=2

This thread gives info specific to the upcoming game:
http://www.darkdemonscrygaia.com/showthread.php?t=530

This thread gives all the info about the ARG elements that have been spotted so far:
http://www.darkdemonscrygaia.com/showthread.php?t=342

There is a countdown (to 2012 ?) but we've gathered (through Twitter messages and blog posts from the game designers) that more info or events should take place in 2009.
So I finally figured I'd post here to share the joy with you ARGers, and ... well, the more eyes on the lookout, the better, no ?

Well, we might have some movement on TSW side..
Not sure for now, but we found some people on Twitter writing in latin, of all things, and with some Unicode and Cyrillic characters sprinkled in..

if anyone here wants to take a look and see if they can help, here's the thread on the official forums for TSW: http://www.darkdemonscrygaia.com/showthread.php?p=58622

Damn, my Latin is rusty !

1221 to 2012
the other end of the number

Has anyone considered that the 12202012 number is a date span ... 1221 to 2012? I looked up 1221 ... lots of Japanese (Shanghai connection?) upheavals and Ghengis Khan invading places, etc. Just a thought.

Yeah, there has been no end of speculations on the value of 12202012 on the TSW forums. A quick search yields 11 pages of results, lol.
I'll see if anyone had thought of the year 1221, and, if not, pass along your idea. Who knows, maybe the game will link the events of 1221 to events in 2012... that could make sense.

Thanks

isn't the simplest way to interpret that string as 12 20 2012 - or December 20th, 2012?

Keep in mind this has already probably been covered in the TSW forums, and that I'm only proposing this because I'm bored and antsy waiting for TSO to get a move on. But whatsisname's razor has rarely failed me before.

Occam's Razor, I think.
And yes, the most commonly accepted theory on that number is that it should lead to Dec 12, 2012.

Last couple of days, in TSW, we've been trying to decode some messages we've intercepted from the Twitter-sphere; we got most of it, but there's some un-explained portions like "™e'ÍÏÍ^ü ", "3e4gHjmS456", and so on..

Those are driving us nuts.

Man, it was a rush.
Video was posted Saturday morning.
The thread was locked this morning, after 828 posts.

http://www.darkdemonscrygaia.com/showthread.php?t=2662

I think that once the people on the forums found the answers to all the puzzles that were posted Saturday, and realized it lead to a unique code (might turn out to be a beta code for when the game will hit that phase, or who knows...) they got slammed by a lot more people that they expected. So they closed thread and removed a few links to try and minimize the influx. I'm not sure if the codes are still being given out (I got it this morning as #185, they might have had a cap at 200, but I think a friend of mine got #202...)

Anyways, tomorrow the 'embargo' ends and you'll probably see a few articles about TSW popping around the web since last week they demo-ed it to journalists.

Presumably, they will keep using ARGs to hype the game as they get closer to release (when? no clue for now sorry) - and I have a dream of the videogame incorporating ARG elements even after release.

So yeah, puzzles from the weekend have been solved, but feel free to keep an eye on those forums (there's a They Are Coming Back redux thread to let you walk through the puzzles again)

Sadly, I was very busy at work today and didn't get to enjoy the cracking of this one puzzle.
it seems that after 100+ pages in one thread, people made a new thread with only the info they had figured out by then for sure, and after a few more pages, they got it right.

The puzzle lead to a trans-oceanic liner of old.
The character giving the puzzle promised ot be back in touch soon, so I recommend keeping your eyes open Smile

Wow, I forgot about this game. The Secret World is what ultimately led me to unfiction. This was an awesome ARG with a great community of players.

Site's updated with a new puzzle, as of about 13 hours ago. Here's my best attempt at a summary:

Prologue: Something involving Melissonomoi posting a message on her 8tracks playlist, which states "in three days time, two lines will twine." This was posted on May 22, which indicates that something will happen on the 25th.

At approximately 6am on May 25th, 2009, (PDT) someone named sveinjt posted on the Secret World forums a topic entitled "Who is Nicolas Belmont?" (caps mine). In the post, he explained that he was cleaning his mother's loft when he found some curious papers in English. Living in Norway, svein's English isn't very good, but it was obviously by a man named Nicolas Belmont. Wondering what it is, he typed the name into Google, found these forums, and asked the people here if they could help. He scanned the pages and posted them on his flickr. There are seven pages of material written by Nicolas Belmont. The pages were broken down and the following has been ascertained.

Regarding the Handwritten Portions of the pages, the translations have been provided by Svimen.
Svimen wrote:
Here is the whole translation of the notes scribbeled down on the pages.
1
There is scribbeled names in the margins of each page.
Cleopatra is a name at least. I bet the other is names as well
2
I wonder what the names means. What could the connection be between the story/farytail about King Arthur and these pages be?
3
Haven't heard of any of these.
4
The few I recognize are queens.
5
It is Impossible for me to find enough information in the library here in Lofoten(place in norway)
Wonder who they are.
6
(nothing)
7
I have at least heard about Nefertiti.
Cleopatra and Nefertiti. Egypt. As far as i know the others do not have anything to do with Egypt.

Regarding the Names on Each Page, little has been deduced. They are all women—are all queens. Their importance is likely very high, but no clues have surfaced about what they could mean or why they are there.

Regarding the Imprinted Text on Page 1, its relevance is currently in question. Images have been gleamed in which the text is easier to make out. The important inclusion from the retyped text is:
Quote:
I imagine a million possibilities, all bleak, all causing me to break into a cold sweat as I consider the gamble we have taken, one that can easily be lost. R.A insisted this was the only way, that we have to be dead to the world if we are to save it from itself.

However, it is unclear how this imprint or erased section came to exist, and its relevance is in question.

Regarding the Identity of Nicolas Belmont, little is known—indeed, that is what is believed to be the underlying question. He does not exist anywhere in other literature or history books, though this may be due to the fact that he has taken great pains to be "dead to the world." Further, a link likely exists between himself and Aveline Belmont, who was a prominent player in the previous Secret World ARE.

Regarding the Timeline of the events in the letters, and the route that Amundsen and Belmont took, an excellent post has been written by Fornax which pretty much sums it up.
Fornax wrote:
Just to sum up a bit of RL events:

Amundsen was the first man to reach the south pole in 1911.

Amundsen disappeared on June 18, 1928 while flying on a rescue mission on the plane "Latham", withlooking for missing members of Italian Nobile's crew, whose new airship "Italia" had crashed while returning from the North Pole.
Nobile survived - R.A. did not.
The last signals from R.A. "Latham" was recived from a coalship having departed Svalbard, suggesting "Latham" went down near Bear Island due bad weather.

Later a wing-float and bottom gasoline tank from the French Latham 47 flying boat R.A. was in, improvised into a replacement wing-float, was found near the Tromsø coast(ie mainland Norway).
Suggesting some crewmembers from "Latham" initially survived.

In 2002 a 95 year old Norwegian lady claimed to have seem "Latham" go down into the water at Værholmen near Tromsø. Not very trustworthy though.

In 2003 it was suggested (again) that the plane went down northwest of Bear Island.

Interestingly, in august 2009 a new expedition with two of the most advanced vessels in the Norwegian navy will do a new search for "Latham".
Will be exiting to see what they will discover.

------------------------end of RL events-------

...which makes me belive we have at least start from Bear Island...

ref page 2 = "...and there, the narrow stop of landmass, almost impossible to find if one wasn't aware of its presence".
Bear Island is hard to find, and it was there R.A. was last believed to have been.

Then they say they "head west into the Arctic swells" indicating they left Bear Island.
Im a bit confused here as they say on page 3:
"...what the mountain were called...a fitting name..."=
Miseryfjellet is at Bear Island, and would fit nicely...
didn't they just leave Bear Island? So this must be a mountain at Svalbard.

Jan Mayen is west, but has no mountains nor mines, indicating they went to Svalbard.
It is aslo said they went northeast, which fits with Svalbard.

So I think we can forget Greenland, Bear Mountain, Newfoundland at least...

In these letters it is suggested/said that R.A. was aboard the ship, or was picked up by the ship at Bear Island:
"Above us I can hear the rotors of the Latham...",
"My heart is filled with momentary relief as I see him (R.A.) waiting for us."

Indicating R.A. did not die in the frozen wastes, but went on a more urgent and secret mission after having landed at Bear Island and disembarked there.
They head west, and eventually northeast, indicating as others have said, they landed on Svalbard.

They "pass the busiest port"=Longyearbyen?
They "are close to our destination: a mining town of proletariats and the end of the scarab trail".
Can not be the mining town of Barentsburg, as they started mining in 1932.
"Pyramiden" (The Pyramid), named from the pramid shaped mountain, should fit though;
a Swedish mining town from 1910; sold to the Soviets(Proletariats?) in 1927.

So Pyramiden is my guess for our destination.
